Brits urged to leave beds unmade before going on holiday for one vital reason

Social media influencer and cleaning expert Anna Louisa is urging Brits to leave their beds unmade before going on holiday and there's a valid reason behind her plea
Returning home to a tidy house after a fortnight in the sun is what every Brit dreams of. But one cleaning influencer has urged holidaymakers to leave their beds unmade before they go - and that includes leaving the fresh sheets off.
Just when you'd think that making your bed was a necessity before starting your day the right way, it's completely different when going on holiday. That's according to social media influencer Anna Louisa, who claims you should let the bed breathe to kill off any unwanted mites and moisture.

She said: 'By stripping the bed and exposing the mattress to light and air while you're away, you can help remove moisture, meaning that any dust mites present will dehydrate and eventually die.'

House dust mites are known to be the cause of factors such as asthma, eczema and other allergies. They thrive in humid and warm environments, especially when in bed. As much as they can be annoying and hard to get rid of, there's a way to avoid this from happening, and it doesn't cost money.
'Make sure you have freshly washed, clean sheets ready and waiting to make up the bed when you get home,' she added. Alternatively, if you will be arriving late at night, simply change the bed sheets before you head off on your holiday, so it's clean and ready on the way back.
Cleaning isn't everyone's forte or favourite activity. Still, there's nothing more annoying than coming back home after hours of travelling with your house having a weird smell and with a bunch of things to do.
The advice also includes giving the house a deep clean before leaving, including the toilet and the shower, as well as getting rid of any bins and washing any dirty dishes. Most importantly, keep the door of the washing machine slightly open to avoid the weird smells.
Anna Louise's tip is not completely wild, with other experts also backing leaving beds unmade. According to Southern Living, making your bed the moment you climb out of it may not be the best habit to get into. In fact, delaying making the bed can still be beneficial in eliminating dust and mites.
This is especially recommended in hot weather, where the bed will "breathe" better when the duvet is not tightly tucked in on all sides.

'I moved from the UK to Australia and it's not as great as you think'

A woman who used to live in London and has now re-located to Sydney has shared a word of warning to Brits who are planning to do the same and she shared her experience of her new Australian life A lot of people in the UK have dreams of moving to Australia to start a new life in the sun. However one woman who used to live in London and has now re-located to Sydney has shared a word of warning to Brits who are planning to do the same. Emily has been posting videos of her new life Down Under on her TikTok account @thediariesofemdownunder, and she admits in one recent video that she often wonders 'what the hell she's doing in Australia'. ‌ The clip sees Emily speak to the camera with her hand on her head as she asks: "Anyone else who's moved to Australia just think 'What the hell am I doing here on the other side of the world?' on a daily basis?" ‌ She then adds: "I've been here a month and a half now and honestly, that is the thought that crosses my mind every single day." Following up in the caption, she wrote: "Moved to Australia and everyday questioning why??? #sydney." The video seemed to resonate with people, as it racked up more than 9,000 likes and nearly 2,000 comments. Someone else in the same position wrote: "Yeah I wanna go home," as Emily asked: "How long have you been here?" The girl, named Katie replied: "6.5 months. Gonna give it a few more months see how I feel! Wanted to be here a year but it's not worth staying to prove a point." Another person agreed: "I've been here 4 months, realised it's time to go home, no shame in not staying the whole year." ‌ While someone else said: "I did a world trip solo for 6 months and Australia was part of my itinerary, genuinely, I couldn't wait to leave, it had the weirdest vibe, plus I was still pining for beautiful Asia at this point, but yeah, I don't get the hype." Despite some people agreeing with Emily, others told her to stick with it as one person wrote: "Irish, been here 15 years. June, July, Aug is hard. You have to switch off from the fun goings on of the northern hemisphere (or go back to see everyone). Once Sept hits, you'll feel totally different! Just hang in there. It's a 9-3 month ratio of goodness. Instead of all the fun being in a quick 3 months at home!" While another added: "I have been here 12 years. The first 5 years are a rollercoaster of wanting to go home – then going there for a holiday and being desperate to get back to Aus because you just needed that reminder why you moved. Also to check in with family etc. my advice would be never to make a permanent moving decision without a holiday back home first. Work opportunity is soo important too." ‌ A third chimed in: "I lived there for about 4 years. I was also very unsure I'd made the correct decision at first. However; 20 years after returning to the UK, I still miss the extraordinary wildlife and country. I miss the smell of eucalyptus trees after it rains. I miss the jacaranda trees. I miss the colour of the sky and the noise of cicadas in the summer. I learned to love it when I started to let it in and it creot under my skin and stayed. It is an extraordinary place and the people are great. Give it time." Others also couldn't see why she wanted to leave at all, as one TikTok user said: "Australia is an amazing country," while another person who had moved there added: "Not me. Haven't looked back. Australia is beautiful." ‌ However, even people from Sydney themselves could see Emily's point, as one person said: "For someone who has lived in Sydney my whole life, THE LAST PLACE ID EVER WANA GO." Another added: "I've was born here and I think the same." Many others were confused about people 'being sold them dream' online of living in Australia, while others reminded Emily that a country can't change your life. One person wrote: "Not gonna lie, as an Australian I'm so confused by the amount of people selling the idea of moving to Aus online without any of the realities of living there... so I get you girl!" While another added: "I am so tired of hearing from people who come here expecting the streets to be paved with gold only to find out that it is just like any other country. Research first people then decide." A third chimed in: "Genuine curiosity and I mean this so respectfully, what was the expectation and why? It just seems to be a common experience for people from the UK and I'm confused what the narrative is and who's pushing it? Especially as a girl born and raised in Sydney." While a fourth added: "What made you leave the UK... You are the only one that can change your life. Not a country," to which Emily replied: "Could not agree more."

American living in UK says he notices 'major difference' when he goes shopping

A man has left Brits in stitches after perusing a "mall", and expressing his shock at the things he found within it. He thinks all shopping centres are like this one An American exploring the UK has called out his homeland for not having shopping centres like those in the UK, because he was mind-blown by one. TikToker @kjordyy, who visits different cities around the United Kingdom to rate them, was visiting the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, and he captioned his video: " are we doing? British malls are genuinely insane". He said that shopping centres in the UK "blow his mind" in comparison to back home, saying that it's "so much more than a shopping experience". "I don't think you truly understand the complexity of these malls," he gushed. ‌ ‌ He said that "first of all", at every shopping centre he'd been in, the architecture was "insane". He went outside, and noted that there was "a moat outside of the mall". He shared that the shopping centre has over 280 shops, a cinema with 17 screens, an outdoor adventure park with a zipline and outdoor skydiving. "Back home in the US, you just don't get that," he shared. "If I were a kid, I just wouldn't leave this place," he gushed, because there were so many things to do. TikToker @kjordyy then decided that he was going to go skydiving, because you couldn't do that in a shopping centre in America. But, when he went, he was told that he was "too heavy" for the skydiving and zip line, so he had to walk away from the activities. He said: "Just the sheer fact that a mall has this, I'm impressed. I'm sad I've got too swole a body for them, but you know what, maybe next time". ‌ In the comments, somebody urged him to "go to the Trafford Centre" because it's impressive. "Especially the ship area with the restaurants," another penned. Someone said that when they went to the Trafford Centre, it "blew their mind". Others reassured him that "Bluewater is not an accurate representation of UK 'malls'." Another said: "Metrocentre used to have an indoor funfair including a rollercoaster!!! It's no longer there now". Some people said that the "internet is ruining shopping centre experiences" because "people are too lazy to go and walk round" these days, but others said that you can't beat going shopping in real life. One woman asked: "Are malls shutting down over there the way they are here? Even our giant mall only has about two stores in it now". "I mean my local one is all outside and has a cinema, like 20 shops and 6 restaurants, but there's better further away," somebody boasted. Somebody in the UK said that their local shopping centre just contains "a Greggs, McDonald's and the absolute bare minimum of stores," assuring the TikToker that this is a one-off.
