Washington Post01-04-2025

The Washington Post announced its partnership today with Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) for The Washington Post All-Met Honors, an hour-long program honoring this winter's standout high school athletes in the national capital region. The program airs Sunday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m. ET, recognizing The Post's Winter 2024-25 All-Met Players of the Year and First-Team honorees.
The Washington Post All-Met Honors will be co-hosted by MNMT's JP Finlay and Wes Hall, who will be joined by special guests and former All-Met selections Christy Winters Scott and Chris Wright. The special will reveal the Players of the Year and first team members for nine winter sports (Boys/Girls Basketball; Boys/Girls Ice Hockey; Boys/Girls Swimming; Boys/Girls Indoor Track and Field; Wrestling) and feature exclusive interviews with each of the Players of the Year.
The show will feature a conversation with High School Sports Editor Michael Errigo, a behind-the-scenes look at this year's All-Met Media Day with the Players of the Year, vignettes featuring All-Met legends across different sports including Torri Huske (Girls Swimming), Kyle Snyder (Wrestling), and Quincy Wilson (Boys Indoor Track and Field), and a feature on former Boys Basketball All-Mets now connected to Monumental Basketball and MNMT, including John Thompson III, David Vanterpool, Saddiq Bey, Dickie Simpkins, and Chris Wright.
"We are honored to partner with an esteemed institution like The Washington Post to celebrate the remarkable talent within the DMV's high school sports scene through the All-Met Honors,' said Zach Leonsis, President of Media & New Enterprises at MSE. 'At Monumental Sports Network, we believe in the power of sports to inspire and unite our community, and this program exemplifies our commitment to using our platform to raise the profiles and uplift the voices of young athletes across our region. We're looking forward to recognizing some incredible achievements and introducing the next generation of sports leaders and champions during Sunday's program."
The Post regularly recognizes the top high school athletes in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area across various sports, several who have become professional athletes and notable figures over the past decades.
The special will be available for viewing in MNMT's coverage area and on the Monumental+ app.
In December, MNMT announced a partnership with The Post to feature its renowned All-Met high school sports content as part of the network's high school basketball coverage, and branding as part of live game broadcasts and other MNMT programming. Throughout the winter sports season, this dynamic collaboration celebrated the legacy of past All-Met basketball players and amplified the legacy of the DMV's rich high school sports landscape.

All-Star Corbin Burnes set for Tommy John surgery, ending his 1st season with the Arizona Diamondbacks

CINCINNATI — All-Star right-hander Corbin Burnes of the Arizona Diamondbacks is set to undergo Tommy John elbow surgery, ending his season early in the first year of a six-year, $210 million contract that's the richest in team history. Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that the decision was made with 'a lot of people weighing in.' Lovullo said the surgery probably would be scheduled for next week with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the team physician of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The announcement came three days after the Diamondbacks put Burnes on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old left his most recent start Sunday with the Diamondbacks leading 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning. After Burnes allowed a single by the Washington Nationals' CJ Abrams with two outs, he gestured toward the dugout with his glove and yelled in frustration. Burnes allowed a run and four hits in 4 2/3 innings in the Diamondbacks' 3-1 victory. He is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts this season. After the game, Burnes said he felt tightness in the elbow while getting the first two hitters out in the fifth. 'We're all with Corbin right now,' Lovullo said. 'This is a tough day to get this news. But we'll find a way to rally around him, play hard for him all year long. … It's a long road, and it takes time for him to heal and recover. And he will. He'll be great for the Arizona Diamondbacks, I'm convinced of it.' Burnes signed with the Diamondbacks after earning his fourth consecutive All-Star nod in his only season with the Baltimore Orioles last year. He spent his first six years with the Milwaukee Brewers before an offseason trade to the Orioles in early 2024. Burnes can opt out of his contract after the 2026 season, a move that now appears unlikely since his return figures to come after the All-Star break next year. Burnes would give up $140 million in guaranteed money if he opts out.
