Egypt - Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), signed a partnership agreement this morning with Fan Yun, Chairperson of China's Changzhou Ramada, to establish a textile manufacturing facility at the Qantara West Industrial Zone. The $22.6m (EGP 1.130bn) investment will focus on the production of home textiles and apparel, creating 1,500 direct jobs.
The new project, set to occupy an 80,000 sqm plot, is designed to produce around 5,000 tonnes of fabric annually, alongside 4 million sets of bed linen and 1 million car carpet sets. With 90% of production earmarked for export, the facility is poised to play a significant role in expanding Egypt's textile export capacity.
Gamal El-Din emphasized that this is part of a broader effort by SCZONE to foster industrial growth in the region. To date, the authority has signed binding contracts for 32 projects within the Qantara West Industrial Zone, with total investments exceeding $822.2m. These projects span approximately 2,097,400 sqm and are expected to generate 45,600 direct jobs.
'These projects are primarily geared toward exporting the bulk of their production to global markets, capitalizing on the SCZONE's strategic location as a vital link between continents,' said Gamal El-Din. 'Our integrated industrial zones and ports make it easier for companies to connect with international markets, and this approach has proven successful in boosting export-oriented industries, particularly in the textiles sector.'
The SCZONE Chairman also highlighted ongoing efforts to attract more investment to targeted sectors. He pointed to the imminent launch of several key projects in Qantara West, which will include both manufacturing facilities and essential infrastructure, further strengthening the zone's appeal. Along with a skilled local workforce, the SCZONE offers investors attractive incentives, reinforced by Egypt's political and economic stability, which continues to build confidence in the region as a premier investment destination.
Founded in 2016 in Jiangsu Province, China, Changzhou Ramada Blanket Industry Co. Ltd. is a leading manufacturer with an integrated supply chain covering everything from raw materials like polyester filament fabric to finished products such as blankets, carpets, quilts, and bathrobes. The company specializes in the research, development, production, and sale of home textile products, with a portfolio that includes over 10 types of fabrics and more than 80 varieties of apparel fabrics.
This new venture in Qantara West marks a significant step in the expansion of Egypt's textile sector and further strengthens its position in global textile manufacturing and export.

Turkey aims to export 900MW of electricity to Syria by first quarter of 2026

Turkey plans to export about 900 megawatts of electricity to Syria by the first quarter of 2026 as part of its plans to help boost the latter's rebounding economy, the Turkish minister of energy and natural resources has said. Syria's northern territory is already receiving nearly 300MW of power from its neighbour and the "first step over the next few weeks" is to raise this to 360MW, Alparslan Bayraktar said in an interview with Sky News Arabia on Tuesday. The "ultimate goal" is to increase the capacity available from Birecik in Turkey to Aleppo by an additional 500MW over the next few months, he said. "There are things needed to be done in the Syrian territory for this interconnection but beginning in the first quarter of 2026 ... we will be able to supply almost 900MW of direct electricity exports to Syria," he added. Turkey is positioning itself to be a key ally of Syria, which is emerging from a years-long economic struggle underpinned by a costly civil war. After the regime of Bashar Al Assad was toppled in December, the situation in Syria has been improving, with western sanctions lifted this year. Gulf states, including the UAE, are moving quickly to invest in Syria's post-Assad future, offering diplomatic, financial and infrastructure support. Last week, Turkey began the first deliveries of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Syria through the Turkish province of Kilis, part of a two-billion-cubic-feet-per-year pledge from Ankara in May. "We are looking for reliable, long-term [power] supply for Syria," in addition to potash and potential liquefied natural gas supplies, Mr Bayraktar said. Meanwhile, Turkey is optimistic it will be able to continue on with its half-century-old oil pipeline deal with Iraq following last month's move to end the partnership, the minister said. The Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline, in place since 1975, will expire on July 27, 2026. Ankara announced an end to it on July 21, but it swiftly came up with a new proposal to establish a broader agreement that Iraq said it was considering. Turkey wanted to "change one thing – to fully utilise" the 970km pipeline to allow the smoother flow of crude and help Iraq's economy, Mr Bayraktar said. Iraq's oil "goes to global markets through the Gulf of Basra and Strait of Hormuz, and we have witnessed in the last few weeks when Israel attacked Iran, the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz might affect all these oil transport and exports", he said. "I think it's also good for Iraq to diversify its export routes; Iraq has huge potential for production – Northern Iraq [especially] has huge potential."

China's Trinasolar unit delivers 300MWh BESS in Egypt ahead of schedule

Trina Storage, a subsidiary of China-based solar photovoltaics manufacturer Trinasolar, has delivered a 300MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Egypt ahead of its scheduled commercial operation date. The BESS facility, owned by Dubai-headquartered AMEA Power, is an extension of the company's operational 500 megawatt (MW) solar PV plant in Aswan governorate, Egypt, which was commissioned in December 2024. The 300MWh BESS is Egypt's first utility-scale solar and storage integrated facility, designed to enhance grid stability and support the country's clean energy transition. Trina Storage supplied its advanced Elementa 2 platform, covering the full scope from in-house LFP battery cells and DC compartments to the AC side, enabling connection to the national grid. 'Faced with the extremely high temperatures and complex power grid environment in the Middle East and North Africa, we completed the 300MWh energy storage project from equipment installation to grid connection and delivery in just 60 days,' said Vincent Wu, Global Sales Vice President and MEA MU Head at Trinasolar. AMEA Power was awarded the BESS project in September 2024. (Writing by P Deol; Editing by Anoop Menon) (
