
Garbage truck driver found dead while on duty in Cyberjaya
PETALING JAYA: A garbage truck driver was found dead on his co-driver's seat while on duty along Jalan Cottage Walk, Cyberjaya yesterday.
Sepang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman, said the police received a report about the incident via a MERS 999 call from a member of the public at 10.45am, Sinar Harian reported.
The report informed that a man was found unconscious inside a garbage truck.
A team of police officers from the Cyberjaya police station went to the scene and discovered the victim slumped in the front passenger seat of the truck.
The 69-year-old local man was employed as a garbage truck driver, according to statement issued by the police today.
Norhizam emphasised that no criminal elements were found at the scene, and the case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR).
The body has been sent to the Forensic and Pathology Department at Hospital Cyberjaya for an autopsy.
The public is advised not to speculate on the incident.

Three Jitra students killed in accident on NSE
ALOR SETAR: A day that was supposed to bring joy in anticipation of Hari Raya Aidiladha turned into a tragedy when three students from the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Jitra were killed in an accident at KM49.4 of the North-South Expressway, heading south from Alor Setar, on Thursday (June 5), Sinar Harian reports. The Malay language daily reported that in the 2,10pm incident, all the victims were on two motorcycles, travelling back to their respective hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha. All the victims, aged 19, are believed to have collided with an multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) before the fatal accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Muhamad Habil Mohd Sobri from Gurun; Muhammad Fahmi Jam from Jeniang, Sik; and Muhamad Arif Aifan Derani from Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani. Another friend sustained serious injuries due to the collision. Sinar Harian reported that the bodies of all three victims have been sent to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here for further action. The driver of the car has also been detained to assist in the investigation regarding the fatal accident. Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Siti Noor Salawati Saad told Sinar Harian that initial investigations revealed the accident occurred when a motorcycle lost control and crashed into the rear of the car, which had stopped in the emergency lane. At the same time, another motorcycle, coming from behind, failed to avoid the collision and hit the motorcycle in front, resulting in a serious crash. "As a result of the incident, two riders and a pillion rider died at the scene. "Another passenger was seriously injured and is now receiving treatment at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB)," ACP Siti Noor Salawati said in a statement Thursday afternoon. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Man cheats death in Ranau crash

Ranau Fire Station Chief Rantey Fred said the incident happened in Kg Marakau Ranau at 11.10pm. He said seven personnel were deployed to the location about 4km from the station following a call on the incident through the MERS999 line. 'On arrival, we found a male victim trapped inside the vehicle and conducted an operation to extricate the injured victim before being sent to the hospital in an ambulance,' he said, adding the operation ended shortly after midnight after no more danger existed. Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani granted a six-day remand order for the two male suspects, aged 37 and 26 years old, respectively, following an application by the Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) branch Wednesday. According to sources, the two suspects were arrested between 6.25pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday (June 3) while giving statements at the Melaka MACC office. Meanwhile, Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrests when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting and accepting bribes. - Bernama
