Harleein, playing for the host state, set up the all-local showdown after coming from behind to beat South Korean Eum Hwa-yeong 6-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-7. Hwa-yeong had eliminated second seed Jemyca Aribado of the Philippines 8-11, 11-1, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10 on Friday to reach the semis. Former SEA Games gold medallist Addeen Idrakie lived up to his billing as the top seed by reaching the men's final after beating fellow Malaysian Mohd Syafiq Kamal 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 11-3. The 31-year-old is making his competitive return after a six-month layoff due to a shoulder injury sustained earlier this year. Addeen injured his right shoulder at the end of January and only resumed training about three weeks ago in preparation for this week's tournament. Standing in Addeen's way and a Malaysian double is Canadian player Karim Aguib, who overcame Suraj Kumar Chand of India 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10 in the other semi-final match.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's valiant run at the World Cup of Darts came to an end in the last-16 stage in Frankfurt, Germany, on Saturday. Tengku Hadzali Shah-Tan Jenn Ming fell to a 8-3 defeat against 14th seeds Karel Sedlacek-Petr Krivka of the Czech Republic. The Malaysian pair had earlier made history by reaching the knockout round for the first time, after topping Group F with impressive 4-1 wins over 10th seeds Matt Campbell-Jim Long of Canada on Thursday, and Denmark's Benjamin Drue Reus-Andreas Hyllgaardhus on Friday. Tengku Hadzali-Jenn Ming earned their spot in the tournament after beating Singapore and Taiwan to win the Asia Qualifiers. A total of 36 countries took part in the group stage, divided into 12 groups. Only the group winners advanced to the round of 16. The top four seeded teams — defending champions England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland — were given byes into the last 16.

KUALA LUMPUR: The five men from the Western Hemisphere were overwhelmed by the love from Malaysian fans on Tuesday. The heritage players, making their Malaysia debut, won the hearts of more than 61,000 appreciative fans at the National Stadium, as they helped Malaysia crush Vietnam 4-0 in an Asian Cup qualifier. The Argentine-born winger, Imanol Machuca, came on in the 72nd minute as a reserve, and was welcomed by a thunderous roar from the crowd. "Unforgettable night, thank you for all the love, this is just the beginning," said Machuca in his social media post. The Spain-born defender Jon Irazabal, who played the full 90 minutes, said: "An honour to represent Malaysia in my first game. Thank you all for the incredible support, everything felt easier with you behind us. I'm grateful for the opportunity and ready for the next battle." The Argentina-born striker Rodrigo Holgado, who scored Malaysia's second goal in the 59th minute, wrote: "A dream night. I'm very happy to represent this beautiful country and fulfil this dream in my football career. I want to thank everyone who has been part of this, my teammates for the warm welcome, the coaching staff, and all the people of this wonderful country who made me feel so happy from the first minute." The Brazil-born Joao Figueiredo, who opened the scoring in the 49th minute, and the Argentine-born centreback Facundo Garces were also moved by the fans' response.
