Monessen mayor issues emergency declaration due to growing sinkhole
A video sent to KDKA-TV shows the inside of the sinkhole when it was first discovered on Saturday between the intersection of Route 906 and Pennsylvania Avenue.
The mayor says it went from a divot to a widening hole that has since been measured to be at least 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep.
He says 100 tons of material is now needed to fill it. Half of that has already been brought in.
The Department of Environmental Protection says this hole is the result of mine subsidence and is working with the city to repair and stabilize the ground in that area.

Another heat wave on the way, humid and thunderstorm chances in the Philadelphia region this Saturday
After a record-setting day of hot temps Friday (Philly hit 98°, breaking the record of 97), we'll get a bit of a break this weekend with temps back near normal Saturday and a bit below normal on Sunday. Although it may not be quite as hot, it will stay on the humid side. Saturday is likely the best day to get outdoors as temperatures will be in the upper 80s, but more cloud cover will limit direct sun and this means any t-storm activity will be minimal. Sunday, though, starts with showers and storms and then a second round is likely in the afternoon and evening. Another heat wave returns next week with temps back into the mid to upper 90s Monday through Wednesday. We have had 16 days in the 90s this July, and will likely add at least three more, which at 19 would tie for the 3rd most 90-degree days in July. The most we've ever racked up in July is 21, which has happened six times, most recently in 2020. Pittsburgh-area house with 20,000 rounds of ammo inside catches fire
A fire ripped apart a home in Westmoreland County on Friday morning, igniting thousands of bullets inside. Shots rang out as flames poured out of a home in Vandergrift. It was the sounds of the 20,000 rounds of ammo stored inside. "It was constant pops," next-door neighbor Don Cocco said. It was around 8 a.m. when Cocco smelled smoke and heard his neighbors screaming that the house next to his on Emerson Street was on fire. "When I came out, I seen all of the smoke in the eaves," Cocco said. They began to panic and banged on the front door, thinking the woman who lived there was home. Cocco said it wasn't long before she pulled up to the home as flames shot out of the side air conditioner. "The flames were pretty high, and I was scared for my house," Cocco said. Shortly after fire crews arrived, ammo started to take off. "It was very scary because, you know, nobody knew where they were going," Cocco said. Vandergrift #1 Fire Chief Randy Dunmire said he quickly pulled their crews out of the building. "It's just kind of like flying around some. It doesn't have a lot of velocity to it because it's not coming out of a barrel, but it still has enough from the powder," Dunmire said. Fire crews attacked the blaze from the outside for about 30 minutes until they knew all the ammo had exploded. The bullets traveled far, with some shell casings found about a half a block away. "We decided if we didn't hear any for 10 minutes, then it was OK to go in," Dunmire said. After knocking the fire down, crews did a lot of manual work, tackling fire in the walls and ceilings. In the process, they rotated crews due to the heat. "It was a dangerous situation for quite some time," Dunmire said. Dunmire said they saved some rifles and handguns, but many were destroyed. He called the house a total loss. They're in contact with the state fire marshal. Dunmire said he's not ruling on a cause, though he believes it was accidental. Cocco is just grateful everyone is OK. "I give all of the credit in the world to the fire departments. Unbelievable job they did," Cocco said.

VIDEO: Fire destroys Las Vegas shopping complex, 8 businesses damaged, including post office
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County fire crews battled a large fire Friday morning in a business complex across the street from the UNLV campus on Maryland Parkway, near Tropicana Avenue. The fire was reported shortly after 8 a.m. at 4632 S. Maryland Parkway. The plaza is known as the University Gardens and houses several businesses, including a post office, which fire officials said was destroyed. 'We arrived to find the two-story strip mall main center section of the strip mall with heavy fire and smoke showing from the roof,' Clark County Fire Deputy Chief Thomas Touchstone said. 'We do have reports it started in the rear.' Black smoke from the fire could be seen through the Las Vegas valley. Touchstone said Passersby called in the blaze. Most of the businesses in the complex had not opened for the day yet. No injuries are reported, at this time, Touchstone said. 'Right now, we don't know if there are any victims because we haven't been able to search the main occupancy, and that's going to take us a few hours.' Under heavy flames, the center of the building collapsed, creating a dangerous situation for firefighters. Touchstone said crews went into a defensive mode to keep the flames from destroying the north and south ends of the two-story complex. As a result, those portions of the building had minimal damage. Between 100 to 125 firefighters responded, and so did between 40 to 50 Las Vegas Metropolitan police officers. Metro police said traffic is closed in both directions on Maryland Parkway between Harmon Avenue and University Road. The fire was reported to be 90 percent contained at 9:30 a.m. and isn't posing a threat to other structures in the area, fire officials said. Check back for more details on this developing story.
