Foreign Minister offers condolences on Pope's passing: May Lebanon always be in his prayers
NNA - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji visited today the Papal Nunciature in Harissa, where he offered his condolences to Apostolic Nuncio Paolo Borgia on the passing of Pope Francis.
"I humbly offer my deepest condolences to His Eminence, Monsignor Paolo Borgia, to the Apostolic Nunciature in Lebanon, to the Holy See, to the Lebanese people, and all Catholics worldwide, on the passing of the Supreme Pontiff to the Lord," wrote Raji in the book of condolences.
He added: "The Holy Father's ascension to the Lord touches the hearts of all believers, regardless of their beliefs, all humanists who yearn for justice and equality, and all people of good will. His example of compassion, charity, tolerance, and openness to others will remain an eternal guiding light on our path."
"May the soul of Francis rest in peace, and may Lebanon always be in his prayers," Raji concluded.

Le Drian meets Hezbollah's Raad, both support UNIFIL mandate renewal

Le Drian also met on Tuesday and Wednesday with President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil, Kataeb leader Sami Gemayel, and former PSP leader Walid Jumblat. Le Drian and Raad discussed the repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon despite the ceasefire agreement reached in late November. They both said they supported the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). As Le Drian visited Lebanon, United Nations peacekeepers said rock-throwing individuals confronted them during a patrol in south Lebanon, calling repeated targeting of their troops "unacceptable". Lebanese leaders, including Aoun, Salam, and Berri condemned the attacks on UNIFIL patrols. Israel also struck south Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, killing three people. Le Drian said France is working on organizing a conference for the reconstruction of war-hit Lebanese regions and renewing the UNIFIL's mandate, as Raad said his party is keen on discussing reforms in parliament.

Lebanese Army inspects building in Dahieh

On Wednesday, Army forces bulldozed the site of a building they had searched Tuesday at the request of the committee in the densely populated Sainte-Therese street in Hadath in Beirut's southern suburbs. The building had been targeted by an Israeli strike during the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war. On Friday, Israel warned that it would keep up its strikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, after it struck four locations in Dahieh on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. The Lebanese army condemned the airstrikes, warning that such attacks are weakening the role of Lebanon's armed forces that might eventually suspend cooperation with the committee monitoring the truce that ended the Israel-Hezbollah war. It said it had tried to convince Israel not to carry out the strikes and to instead let Lebanese officials go in to search the area under the mechanism laid out in the ceasefire agreement, but that the Israeli army refused, so Lebanese soldiers moved away from the locations after they were sent.
