Three men get 7-year jail term for supplying arms to Maoists in Chhattisgarh
They were arrested on March 8, 2023, from Belpocha village under Konta Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh.
The three men were apprehended when they were waiting for a person to supply explosive materials to cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) terror outfit in Chhattisgarh.
The accused, identified as Semal Deepak, Nara Bhaskar and Telam Mutta, all residents of Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, have been convicted and sentenced by the court under various sections of the UA(P) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. All sentences will run concurrently, entailing seven years in jail for the accused, along with a Rs 500 fine against each.
The convicts will be liable for another month of RI in case of default in payment of the fine, as per the court's orders. The three men, found to be over-ground workers of CPI (Maoist), were arrested by the state police, who had subsequently recovered an electronic detonator, Cordtex wire (Cordtex is a type of detonating cord, a device used to initiate explosions) and gelatin from their possession.
One more accused, namely Putti Pappy Reddy, was also later arrested but has now been acquitted by the court.
NIA investigations revealed that the three were in touch with active Maoist cadres and were involved in the procurement and supply of explosives and daily use items for these cadres. NIA, which took over the investigation from the state police in February 2024, found oral and documentary evidence to support the case against the accused, leading to their conviction and sentencing by the special court.
Police had arrested the three arms suppliers and recovered one motorcycle bearing number CG-26J-0754 and two mobiles in a bag; 20 batteries separately; an electronic detonator in 45 pieces; gelatin rods in 43 pieces; Cordtex wire; electrical wire; and a red Naxalite banner with Konta Area Committee BCP Maoism written on it.
They were following the orders of Vetti Bhima, a Maoist commander, and were waiting for one Rama, who was a resident of Gompada, to hand over the explosives and other materials for further delivery to Maoist cadres. The supply material, they told the police, was to be used in the attack on the Central Reserve Police Force and police force and loot their arms and ammunition.

The vigilance bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a fire officer on the charge of accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused fire officer will be produced in a court on Wednesday. The statement of the complainant was recorded at the Vigilance Bureau, Unit Fazilka. Subsequently the accused was caught red handed while accepting the bribe of ₹20,000/- in presence of Govt. witness and the said case was registered against the aforesaid accused u/s 7 P.C Act 1988, as Amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Ferozpur. The instant case is under investigation. The accused Fire officer will be produced before the competent court tomorrow.

Two girls raped by staff of private pool in Narela
Two men – both workers at a privately owned swimming pool in Lampur near north Delhi's Narela – were arrested for allegedly gang-raping two nine-year-old girls and holding them captive overnight at the pool complex, police said on Tuesday. Police have booked both of them for gangrape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and aggravated sexual assault, investigators privy to the case details said. The horrific crime occurred on August 5 when the two minor girls, both of whom lived with their families at a slum in Bawana, went to the swimming pool near Lampur bus stand without informing their families. While Anil is a contractor employed by the owner of the pool, Munil is the pool's caretaker. The pool, police said, is owned by a person named Pawan, who has no role in the crime. Police officials said the pool complex was not fully operational, but routinely allowed a few people to use the pool. The girls had gone there in the past as well. According to the complaint filed by one of the victims' mothers, her daughter had been playing at her aunt's house in Bawana when she and two other girls, including a 12-year-old, boarded a bus to the pool. While the 12-year-old girl returned home, the two nine-year-olds went missing overnight. The mother recounted that her daughter returned home around 5am the next day but initially did not disclose the assault. 'We frantically searched for my daughter in the neighbourhood but could not find her. Before we could approach the police, she returned home… When I asked her where she was the entire night, she told me that an 'uncle' at the swimming pool had locked her and another girl in a room there. However, but she didn't reveal the rape out of fear,' the mother said. The investigator cited above said that the for two days, the traumatised girls remained silent as the accused had allegedly threatened to kill them if they spoke about the assault. It was only on August 7 that one of the girls confided in her aunt, who then informed the parents. The families immediately approached the Narela police station. On the basis of that complaint, police registered the first information report (FIR) on August 9 under sections 70 (gang rape), 127 (wrongful confinement), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 10 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 'The girl told her mother that this uncle – who was later identified as Anil Kumar – asked her to pay him for using the swimming pool. When she told him that she had no money, he locked her in a room with the other victim. Thereafter, he allegedly raped both the girls. Around the same time, the other man (Munil Kumar), also arrived and allegedly raped the two girls as well,' the officer said, quoting the FIR. 'The two men kept them confined in the room for the entire night and threatened to kill them if they told their families about the rape. They finally released the two girls at around 4.30am on Wednesday.' Deputy commissioner of police (outer-north) Hareshwar V Swami said that the girls' medical examinations were conducted, and their statements were recorded before a judicial magistrate. The police team arrested the two accused on August 10 and recovered critical evidence, DCP Swami said. 'We arrested the two accused after following due procedure. Their interrogation led to the recovery of critical evidence such as a pillow cover, bedsheet and two empty condom packets. We also seized the digital video recorder (DVR) of the swimming pool for evidence gathering purposes,' the DCP said, and added that the arrested men had no previous criminal record.

SIT to probe Srushti trafficking, surrogacy case
Hyderabad: The Gopalapuram police have transferred the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre child-trafficking and surrogacy case to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CCS, Hyderabad, for further investigation. So far, 25 accused, including five doctors, have been arrested in nine cases registered at the Gopalapuram police station for running the inter-state racket. The prime accused, Dr Athaluri Namratha, along with seven others, was arrested on July 27 based on an FIR registered at the police station on July 25. A Hyderabad couple complained that the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre, run by Dr Namratha, duped them of over 30 lakh in the name of a surrogacy procedure by palming off another couple's child as theirs. The victims were never told who the surrogate mothers were. One couple was told that their surrogate child died at birth, and the DNA of two couples did not match with the babies handed over to them by the accused. North Zone DCP Rashmi S Perumal said Dr Namratha built a network of clinics in Secunderabad, Kondapur, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata. According to the Gopalapuram police, the modus operandi was to lure couples seeking fertility help with conventional IVF and, once emotionally invested, persuade them to opt for hassle-free surrogacy with assurances that all legal paperwork would be handled in-house. "Agents would convince financially desperate women to sell their babies, offering them 3.5 lakh for a girl and 4.5 lakh for a boy. They used to charge Rs 30-40 lakh from victims. The accused also fabricated DNA and medical reports to pass the infants off as the clients' own by sending the biological mother's DNA for the test," the DCP said. Among the accused are Dr Namratha, owner of Universal Srushti Fertility Centre; her son PSS Jayanth Krishna; Nargula Sadanandam, an anaesthesiologist working at Gandhi Hospital; Arimlli Vidyullatha, a paediatrician from Visakhapatnam; Pulumuru Usha Devi, a gynaecologist from Visakhapatnam; Vasupalli Ravi, an anaesthesiologist from Visakhapatnam; embryologists Gollamandala Chenna Rao and Bingi Ramya; Visakhapatnam branch manager Chitikireddi Kalyani; M Pavan Mohan Krishna, supervisor-cum-accountant at the Secunderabad branch; G Surekha, nurse at the Secunderabad branch; agents D Santoshi, M Nandini, Harsha Roy, Mohammed Asha Begum, Nayan Das, Shahina, K Ratnam, K Meenakshi, B Saroja, J Vijay Kumar and K Yamuna; and three parents who willingly agreed to the illegal sale of their children. Police seized about 50 files of couples from the offices of the fertility centre, and are verifying these to identify if there are more victims. Police have already written to banks to freeze the accounts of the accused. "Namratha was previously involved in 15 criminal cases in Hyderabad (Gopalapuram), Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur. Some of those cases were compromised, and others are under trial. We have invoked provisions of Organised Crime available in the BNS against the accused.
