Cheatham County constable arrested for unlawful exposure
CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Cheatham County constable, sworn to uphold the law, was taken into custody Thursday morning.
Armed with a warrant, the Ashland City Police Department made contact with 48-year-old Jack Sanders Jr. on Thursday, May 15 in the courthouse, where he was in court on other charges related to a violation of an order of protection against him. From there, he was walked down the hallway into the county jail.
According to the Tennessee Constables' Association, 'Constables are citizen elected, sworn, bonded, conservators of the peace and are vested with all the power and authority belonging to the office of Constable by Common Law. Constables have full powers of arrest under Tennessee Code Annotated Title 8, Chapter 10. They are charged with keeping the peace and with the enforcement of the laws of the state, county, and its cities.'

The association's website lists Sanders as the constable for District 2 in Cheatham County since 2022. However, an executive officer for the Tennessee Constables' Association said Sanders was not an active member of the organization.
Based on the arrest affidavit, Sanders was charged with unlawful exposure. He reportedly posted explicit pictures of a woman with whom he was in a relationship on a public website without her consent.
According to legal database Justia, unlawful exposure in Tennessee is defined as distribution, with the intent to cause emotional distress, of an image of the intimate part(s) of another identifiable person or an image of an identifiable person engaged in sexually explicit conduct, but the image was captured under circumstances where the parties agreed or understood that it would remain private, leading to emotional distress for the person depicted in the image. It's a Class A misdemeanor that can carry up to a year in jail.
News 2 reached out to Sanders for comment while he was in the Cheatham County Jail, but he declined to talk. Officials said he has already bonded out of jail and is due in court on June 18.

News 2 asked community members to share their thoughts on the arrest.
'If he's broke the law, then he should be arrested…they're supposed to be upholding the law,' one woman shopping at Walmart said.
When told of the allegations against Sanders, Jamie Pardue said, 'That is awful. That's just absolutely disgusting.'
The woman shopping with her, Evelyn Sparkman, questioned what the constable was thinking: 'As a Cheatham County resident, he needs to be prosecuted because he is an official of the county and state, and hey, he's not showing a good example for other officers. My question is, what was in his thoughts when he knew down the line he would get caught? I mean, that doesn't make any sense, so the man's got a problem.'
No additional details have been released about Sanders' case.

Man allegedly called in bomb threat after waiting too long, Clive PD says
CLIVE, Iowa — The Clive Police Department says a bomb threat that was made at a MercyOne facility on Thursday was made by a man who was frustrated with the wait time. According to a Clive Police Department release, just before noon, a bomb threat was called into the MercyOne Family Medicine facility in the 1600 block of NW 114th Street. Authorities say the building was evacuated and then inspected by an explosive detection K-9. No devices were found, and the threat was deemed not credible, according to Clive PD. Iowa's Jewish community on high alert after recent hate crimes across the country Detectives traced the phone number used back to 59-year-old Kevin Sanders from West Des Moines, Iowa. Authorities say Sanders was located at his residence and later, during the interview, made admissions to the call. Sanders claimed he was frustrated with the length of time he had to wait on hold, and after asking what was taking so long, Sanders referenced a bomb in the building and then hung up, according to Clive PD. Sanders was arrested and taken to the Clive Police Department, where he was charged with harassment, a simple misdemeanor. 'While this comment may have been made out of frustration, it does not relieve Mr. Sanders from the repercussions that have accompanied it. This call resulted in the evacuation of a medical facility, disruption of services to those in need of medical care, and wasted resources of the Clive Police and Fire Department, as well as the Johnston Police Department,' stated Clive PD Chief Mark Rehberg. Sanders was processed and released with a court date. 'A harassment charge may only be a simple misdemeanor, but this should serve as an example that we will investigate these crimes and hold those who commit them accountable,' said Chief Rehberg. Man caught with 15 pounds of THC edibles, marijuana wax in Sumner County
SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Louisville man who came to Middle Tennessee for a golf trip ended up behind bars in Sumner County after authorities discovered more than $100,000 worth of drugs and cash during a traffic stop. A member of the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force pulled over an SUV along Interstate 65 North in Millersville. The driver — identified as 27-year-old James Scott McKenzie — claimed he was in Middle Tennessee to play golf with his brother. However, law enforcement became suspicious after smelling the pungent odor of marijuana in the rental vehicle. Agent: 'Is there anything illegal inside the vehicle today?' McKenzie: 'No, sir.' Agent: 'Do you smoke a little marijuana occasionally?' McKenzie: 'No, sir.' Agent: 'Any cocaine?' McKenzie: 'No, sir.' Agent: 'Any heroin?' McKenzie: 'No, sir.' Agent: 'Any other forms of THC style products like vapes…or gummies?' McKenzie: 'Uh, um, well-' Agent: 'Listen, look, listen…Nothing in the vehicle you want to tell me about?' McKenzie: 'There is a vape pen that's his.' 'Felt like an explosion': 1 injured after explosion destroys Gallatin home When the 27-year-old refused to give consent to search, authorities ran K9 Emma around the car. The dog alerted on the right side of the vehicle, giving the law enforcement probable cause to search it. According to a member of the drug task force, McKenzie ultimately told him he had what he thought was a THC vape. Agent: 'What's in the car?' McKenzie: 'I just got my wax in there.' Agent: 'How much?' McKenzie: 'It's probably like a half pound of wax.' Agent: 'A half pound?' McKenzie: 'Yes, sir.' That's where authorities found a padlocked bag. Officials told News 2 the bag was specially designed to conceal odors, but it couldn't fool Emma the drug dog. Inside the bag, law enforcement said they discovered 15 pounds of THC edibles and marijuana wax, which is worth an estimated $120,000 on the street. In addition, when McKenzie was arrested, he reportedly had close to $5,700 on his person. 'Either it's the first time he's gotten caught or he's just extremely unlucky and just got caught on the first trip,' the drug agent told News 2. According to the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, McKenzie was booked into the Sumner County Jail on Tuesday, June 3. He's being held on a $185,000 bond for manufacture, delivery, sale, or possession of Schedule VI drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as following too closely. Authorities said McKenzie had no prior criminal history. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
