France's Industry Minister Says 10% Tariffs Not Good Deal for EU

Bloomberg5 hours ago
French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci said agreeing to 10% tariffs on European exports to the US would be a bad deal, signaling disapproval of a potential compromise with Washington.
The European Union has until July 9 to clinch a trade arrangement with Donald Trump before tariffs on nearly all exports to the US jump to 50%. Some members of the bloc are willing to accept a deal that includes keeping a 10% universal tariff on many of the bloc's exports, but with lower rates in certain sectors, Bloomberg reported earlier.

Dutch intelligence services say Russia has stepped up use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Two Dutch intelligence agencies said on Friday that Russia is increasing its use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine, including the World War I-era poison gas chloropicrin. The Netherlands' military intelligence and the security service, together with the German intelligence service, found that the use of prohibited chemical weapons by the Russian military had become 'standardized and commonplace' in Ukraine. According to the findings, the Russian military uses chloropicrin and riot control agent CS against sheltering Ukrainian soldiers, who are then forced out into the open and shot. Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans called for more sanctions against Moscow, and continued military support for Kyiv. Brekelmans, who stayed on in a caretaker role after the Dutch government collapsed last month, said that he doesn't want to see the use of chemical weapons become normalized. Lowering the threshold for use 'is not only dangerous for Ukraine, but also for the rest of Europe and the world,' he said in a statement. Russia has signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which bans the use of chloropicrin and CS as weapons. The convention's watchdog, The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, or OPCW, has found several incidents in Ukraine involving CS, but the group hasn't conducted a full investigation, which must be requested by the member states. The executive committee for the OPCW is holding a regular meeting next week, where it's expected to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. Russian authorities didn't immediately comment on the findings, but they have denied using chemical weapons in the past, instead alleging that Ukraine has used the banned substances. According to Ukraine, Russia has carried out 9,000 chemical weapons attacks in the country since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. In 2024, the U.S. State Department said that it had recorded the use of chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops. ___ Follow the AP's coverage of the war at

Oracle price target raised to ‘Street high' $275 at TD Cowen

TD Cowen raised the firm's price target on Oracle (ORCL) to $275 from $250 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares, noting that the firm's new target is 'a Street high.' Bloomberg reported that OpenAI, via Stargate, has expanded its deal with Oracle for an additional 4.5GW of U.S. data center capacity, providing greater context around the 8-K released on Monday, in which Safra Catz referenced a large deal but didn't specify the customer. The firm contends that the news 'points to some real bull case / blue sky scenarios' for revenue growth and it now believes that FY29 revenue could be about $150B, versus guidance of $104B. TotalEnergies UK gas assets to be bought by Prax remain unsold

By America Hernandez PARIS -The TotalEnergies West of Shetland offshore assets it agreed to sell to Prax Group last year remain under the French oil major's ownership, it said on Wednesday, so will not be subject to disposals resulting from liquidation proceedings affecting the British company. "The transaction to sell our West of Shetland asset to Prax has not yet completed and as such we remain the operator of the Shetland Gas Plant and related fields," TotalEnergies EP UK said in its statement. TotalEnergies had agreed to sell Prax a portfolio of mature offshore fields producing about 7,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day, plus exploration licences and a gas plant, in a deal that would involve transferring employees to Prax. Prax Group's parent company, State Oil, as well as Prax's Lindsey refinery in Britain entered liquidation proceedings this week, with an administrator saying that all financial options were being considered. Those included a sale of Prax's upstream business and retail operations in Britain and Europe, all of which remain outside insolvency. A spokesperson for the British oil and gas regulator, the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) declined to comment on whether the sale of the TotalEnergies assets to Prax could proceed given the insolvency proceedings. The NSTA referred Reuters to its rules on change of ownership of oil and gas assets, which say the regulator considers the financial and technical capability of potential buyers to be critical when assessing transactions for approval.
