He also described it as a proud moment for Bengali cinema.
Deep Fridge, directed by Dutta, won the National Award for Best Bengali Feature Film in the 71st National Awards announced on Friday evening.
'Deep Fridge, which had been screened in IFFI has been very special to us. I am so happy for the honour. It will motivate young independent filmmakers like me to make my kind of cinema," Dutta told PTI.
He said the film was also special to him as it was made when his mother fell ill and died.

Since the firing incident happened, Kapil Sharma hasn't given any direct reaction until today, but almost a month after the reopening of the café, Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath have reacted to the incident with a video. Kapil Sharma, in a collab post with his wife Ginni, shared a video of officials visiting his café as they enjoy a peaceful meal days after the incident and attached it with a caption making it clear that they do not support any sort of violence. While sharing the clip, Kapil and his wife wrote, 'Thank you Mayor Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We're truly grateful." As soon as Kapil shared this post, his fans started reacting and sharing happy wishes to him. Vindu Dara Singh wrote, 'Will visit soon!" About the attack On July 10, the newly opened café owned by comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, was attacked. Several shots were fired at Kaps Café, which had recently celebrated a soft opening and gained attention for its elegant pink-and-white decor, floral accents, and a menu featuring artisan coffee and desserts. What began as a celebration quickly turned chaotic as the establishment was vandalised. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the property did suffer damage. Authorities suspect that the attack was a targeted strike by the Laddi gang, associated with the banned Khalistani terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Laddi is wanted in India for numerous terror-related offences and is believed to be the mastermind behind several recent attacks on Hindu leaders and pro-India individuals. Manish, who has won the prestigious award earlier for Dhh (2018) and Gandhi & Company (2022), says, 'My friends are pulling my leg, saying, 'Now, buy an almirah for your awards.' When Giddh won a prestigious award in Japan (it won the Asia International Competition at the renowned Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2023) and qualified for the Oscars, we were very proud and felt that the film deserves some recognition in India too. So, this award feels special. It's a great moment for Gujarat too, as Vash won two well-deserved awards (Best Gujarati Film and Best Actress in a Supporting Role). He elaborates, 'There are times when you may reach a saturation point. But when you win a National Award, it motivates you to keep doing what you are good at. It also makes you feel that you are on the right track. I have never followed trends and after this win, I feel more confident. Mujhe jo achha lagta hai, main wohi banaunga. The audience now wants fresh, original and honest films, formula doesn't work anymore.' 'Working with Sanjay Mishra was an unforgettable experience' Talking about working with Sanjay Mishra, who played the lead role in Giddh, Manish says, 'It was an unforgettable experience. He is extremely humble and such a brilliant actor! We shot the film at Nadiad in three days and it was a hectic schedule (9am to midnight). There was no vanity van, and he would rest at a nearby temple in between shots. I feel lucky to have worked with brilliant actors like Sanjay sir, Naseeruddin Shah (Dhh) and Darshan Jariwalla (Gandhi & Company). As a filmmaker, you learn a lot of new things while working with such terrific performers, who add a lot more to a film apart from what is there in the script.'
