Kate and William surprised by comedy legend while touring Scots island

Daily Record30-04-2025

Prince William and Kate had a surprise encounter with a comedy legend while touring a Scots island today, April 30. The royal couple had an unexpected meeting with Ruby Wax on the Isle of Iona after leaving Mull by ferry, where they had spent their 14th wedding anniversary carrying out engagements. The Prince and Princess of Wales left Mull on the public CalMac ferry to Iona, where they are expected to spend time meeting the community and learning about their way of life on the island. As they descended the ferry, they ran into Ruby Wax, who was waiting to catch the boat in the opposite direction, where she was doing a silent retreat that she decided to interrupt for the royal arrival, reported The Mirror. She said: "It's funny because I'm on a retreat there. And I thought, why are they interrupting my silent retreat? I mean, you could break the silent retreat for this." She added of meeting William: "I didn't realise he was so good-looking. He looks like his mother." Earlier William and Kate were welcomed by a small crowd when they arrived at the small port of Fionnphort, where the CalMac ferry to the island was waiting. After greeting the well-wishers who lined the pier, the couple spoke with ferry staff, asking them about the challenges of running services, particularly in bad weather. Referring to the balmy spring sunshine, Kate quipped: 'We've chosen a good day to come today – we know the weather is not always like this.' William added: 'The water is so clear out there, it's beautiful.' As the couple walked down to the ferry, a crew member asked whether they had enjoyed their time on Mull. William replied: 'It's been fantastic, thanks', adding that the good weather the couple have enjoyed throughout their stay 'obviously helps'. The pair could be seen up on the bridge in conversation with crew members after boarding the ferry, while other passengers boarded beneath them. Earlier today, Kate spoke of the need for children to 'get outdoors as much as they can' on a visit to a remote forest on the Isle of Mull. She spent the morning of their second day in Scotland with William, immersed in the sun-bathed Ardura Community Forest on the south of the island, a haven for local families. Kate, 43, spoke to locals about the benefits of being out in nature amidst the stunning surroundings. The future queen added: 'It's the small things that are important.' The couple were there to meet and learn more about the Mull and Iona Ranger Service who play a hugely important part in protecting and championing the local environment. The Ardura Acorns is one of the only early-years outdoor learning play groups on the island. It undertakes seasonal outdoor play, focusing on nature and wildlife including following trails, den building and storytelling. There, Kate chatted about studies which have long shown the benefits of the natural world on mental as well as physical health, issues which have been close to her heart since being diagnosed with cancer last February.

The first event was held twelve years ago in Brighton when British performance group Shambush came up with the idea in 2013. And this year, people came together to recreate the dance in the song's iconic video in Scotland's capital city. Music fans of all ages dressed in gorgeous, bright red dresses similar to the one that Kate wore in the original video. And many beamed as they were taught the same dance moves while music played in the background. Many women wore long red dresses with black belts, and little girls wore matching outfits and red jumpers with red hairpieces. Some men were even spotted wearing red dresses as well as they got in on the action. The event started at 4pm, giving performers time to get checked in, fix their outfits and collect merchandise before a welcome at 4.30pm. A warm-up then started at 4.35pm before the dance was taught ten minutes later. After a quick water break, the dance started at 5.10pm and attendees performed it twice before posing for a group photo. Strictly legends return to the stage for new tour after huge endorsement from show judge A website was set up ahead of the event, sharing all the details for those who wished to attend. It read: "Welcome to The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever – Edinburgh 2025! "Get ready to dress up in your best red dress and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of dancing and celebrating the iconic music video by Kate Bush. "The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, at 4.30pm as part of the programme at the Meadows Festival. INSTANTLY CAPITVATED KATE Bush wrote her chart-topping song Wuthering Heights whe she was just 18 years old. The hit song was her debut single and became an unexpected number one hit almost 50 years ago back in 1978. It was actually the first song that was written and performed by a female artist to reach the UK top spot. Despite the song being named after Emily Brontë's novel, it wasn't the book itself that inspired Kate, now 66, to write the song. In an interview in 1978, she told the BBC that the broadcaster's 1967 TV series of the story is what gave her the idea. Kate explained that she came across an episode of the telly adaptation and was blown away by it's startling imagery. At the time, she said: "I just managed to catch the very last few minutes where there was a hand coming through the window and blood everywhere and glass. "And I just didn't know what was going on, and someone explained the story." "Let's come together as a community and recreate the magic of the Wuthering Heights dance. "Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!" Pictures and videos of the event have been widely shared on social media, and many flocked to the comments to praise the dancers. One person said: "Wish I was there... great!" Another added: "Omg, I wish I'd been there!" Someone else wrote: "Love it! Well done". And a fourth posted: "That's pretty cool!" While a fifth chimed in: "Wow, this looks fabulous! Well done".

'They need our help': Prince William issues urgent call to protect world's oceans

Watch Prince William's speech in full as he called for the world to "act together with urgency" to "save our world" The Prince of Wales today called for the world to 'act together with urgency' to protect the oceans because 'If we save the sea, we save our world'. Prince William delivered a keynote speech at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco on World Oceans Day to an audience including President Macron of France, President Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Chavez of Costa Rica and Prince Albert of Monaco. He said: 'The truth is that healthy oceans are essential to all life on earth. They generate half of the world's oxygen, regulate our climate and provide food for more than 3 billion people. 'And today, they need our help. 'Rising sea temperatures, plastic pollution and overfishing are putting pressure on these fragile ecosystems…and on the people and communities who depend most upon them. 'What once seemed an abundant resource is diminishing before our eyes. We all stand to be impacted. And we are all responsible for change – both negative and positive. 'But there remains time to turn this tide.' The event is bringing together business leaders, government representatives, multilateral institutions and stakeholders committed to restoring the health of the oceans. The future King is attending the forum in his role as founder of The Earthshot Prize, which was launched in 2020 to recognise and scale up ideas to help protect the planet. The competition, which annually awards five finalists with £1 million to develop their ideas, will be held in Brazil later this year as it reaches its halfway point. Prince William said: 'The Earthshot Prize is here to demonstrate that humanity does have the tools needed. But the brilliant minds behind these inspiring solutions cannot do it alone. 'They need scaling, support and investment to reach their potential. And they need to be backed by ambitious action on a global, national and local level. 'Halfway through this decisive decade, I call on all of you to think big in your actions. 'Let us act together with urgency and optimism while we still have the chance. "For the future of our planet. For the future generations. We must listen to the words of Sir David Attenborough: 'If we save the sea, we save our world.' The Prince met Earthshot Prize finalists and winners ahead of delivering his speech, including Enric Sala from Pristine Seas who was involved in the new film 'Ocean with David Attenborough'. Speaking about the film, Prince William said: 'I was very emotional after watching it. I got angry, then I got sad, then I got frustrated, then I got happy – every single range of emotions. 'It was really powerful. I'm working out how to show my children as well.' Prince William, who opened and closed his speech in French, told the forum: 'Enric is also part of the team behind Sir David Attenborough's incredible new film. It makes the most compelling argument for immediate action that I have ever seen. 'Watching human activity reduce beautiful sea forests to baron deserts at the base of our oceans is simply heartbreaking. 'For many, it is an urgent wake up call to just what is going on in our oceans. But it can no longer be a matter of 'out of sight, out of mind'. 'The need to act to protect our ocean is now in full view. 'As ever, Sir David leaves us with a sense optimism that all is not lost. He believes change is possible. 'Put simply: the ocean is under enormous threat, but it can revive itself. But, only if together, we act now." A new film was released on Saturday of Prince William in conversation with Sir David Attenborough discussing the new documentary which has become available for streaming globally today, to coincide with World Oceans Day.
