Georgian man charged with having two driving licences in different Greek names
A Georgian national was arrested and brought before Cork District Court on Friday charged with carrying two driving licences in different Greek names, as the gardaí claimed he had at least six false IDs.
Garda Kian O'Sullivan arrested the 39-year-old and charged him with using one false document in the form of a driving licence, and being in possession of another driving licence in another name.
The two charges relate to an alleged incident at Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, on Thursday morning, June 12, when he was stopped by Garda O'Sullivan while driving.
The defendant was prosecuted in the name Jijavadze Gela, of Copley Place, Cork.
Defence solicitor Shane Collins-Daly said the defendant's correct name was Jijavadze Gela and there was a passport for him back in Georgia and his wife would send that to Ireland to verify his identity.
Garda O'Sullivan said apart from this passport, the gardaí were in possession of six documents in six other names, that were allegedly in the defendant's possession.
Mr Collins-Daly said because of the issue in relation to the identity of the accused, there would be no application for bail until next week, June 20.
Remanding him in custody on the application of Sergeant Aisling Murphy, until that date, Judge Mary Dorgan said the suggestion his passport was in Georgia raised more issues about how he travelled to Ireland without it.

Cork mother hopes son will go into rehabilitation after withdrawing domestic complaint against him
A woman who complained last week to gardaí about her 30-year-old son putting her in fear by getting intoxicated and ordering her to get out of her own house has gone back to the gardaí to withdraw her complaints. Garda David O'Driscoll testified in an objection to bail last week at an in-camera hearing of Cork District Court where the parties cannot be identified. On that occasion he said: 'It is alleged she was sitting in the living room. He had been asleep and he came down, intoxicated, under the influence of drugs. He began hitting the walls in the room and turned over the coffee table. He was shouting at his mother to f*** off and get out. 'As she was leaving, he pulled her handbag and stole a black purse from her handbag with about €20.' Eddie Burke, solicitor, said the defendant was intent on getting into rehabilitation.

British tourist, 68, found dead at Greek holiday island after being pulled unconscious from water
