Podcaster not ruling out legal action against UNC over Bill Belichick public records request

Yahoo28-05-2025

Pablo Torre has been busy digging into to the relationship between Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson, reporting on his podcast 'Pablo Torre Finds Out' that Belichick's family has expressed 'deep worry' about the damage Hudson is doing the 73-year-old's legacy.
The podcaster also reported Hudson was banned from UNC's football facility — a claim the school has since refuted.
Torre has stood by his reporting, and won't rule out taking legal action if UNC doesn't respond to his multiple public records requests he's sent to the university by Friday.
'These are public records requests,' he said during an appearance on 'PFT PM.' 'I don't know why this should be vague or ambiguous. It's not like, 'Show me your e-mails,' as if there is no expectation of it. It's, 'You get as part of the pact between a public university and the federal government, you get things in exchange for what feels like a reasonable level of transparency.'
'So we can tell what is this public money going towards? It's standard operating procedure, and if we don't — if we feel like they are not obliging their legal obligations, we will certainly pursue avenues to make it so.'
Because UNC isn't a private university, Belichick's e-mails are open to those kinds of public records requests. The Athletic recently obtained e-mails Belichick sent asking for Hudson to be copied. The legendary coach chalked it up to the university not having a 'sports information guy.'
'Because all e-mails are shared publicly, that was taken as Jordon's running the sports information department,' Belichick said during a recent appearance on 'The Pivot' podcast. 'And that also led to a narrative, which is just totally — she's not doing it. There was nobody to help me sort it out, so I was asking her to do it.'
Torre didn't specify what specifically he was after in regards to the requests, and it's unclear whether the university will comply with the request or if legal action indeed will be taken.

What Clemson football's Dabo Swinney means by welcoming UNC coach Bill Belichick to 'ROY Bus'

CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney welcomed UNC's Bill Belichick to the "ROY Bus." Swinney — who has used the phrase to describe the group of teams that had to compete with Alabama for a national championship during its time under coach Nick Saban — explained its origins. When Swinney was a walk-on at Alabama in 1989, he said there was a locker room and bus for the regular team, and a locker room and bus for the "Rest of Y'all." Advertisement Swinney, entering his 18th season at Clemson, has used this saying throughout his tenure, and told Belichick that the Tigers and the rest of the ACC are still on the "ROY Bus." "We've been on the ROY bus for 16 years. The ACC, we're the ROY Bus . . . " Swinney said to the six-time Super Bowl winning coach. "SEC, Big Ten and the Rest of Y'all." This was among numerous topics Swinney and Belichick discussed during an hour-long conversation with ESPN's Rece Davis on May 12 at the ACC spring meetings in Amelia Island, Florida. The special aired on ACC Network on May 28. Here are other takeaways from the conversation between these two legendary coaches. Dabo Swinney on college football landscape, pending House settlement Swinney described the current name, image and likeness (NIL) landscape for football as "complete chaos" because there is no cap for paying players, and schools can't handle issues directly. Advertisement Still, he is optimistic that the impending House settlement will create "order" and "clarity." It received preliminary approval from judge Claudia Wilken in October 2024, which would provide $2.8 billion in back damages to athletes who could not profit off their NIL between 2016 and Sept. 15, 2024, and bring revenue sharing to college sports starting July 1, with a projected cap for 2025-26 of $20.5 million per school. Athletic departments are operating under the assumption that Wilken will approve the agreement. "Right now, there's no rhyme or reason for really anything. It's just whatever feels good in the moment," Swinney said. "You can do it, and anybody can be involved. So I think we'll have some clearer rules, more clarity, and I think a little bit more order coming sooner than later, and I think it's going to be a great time to be in college football." Bill Belichick's favorite Clemson football players he scouted in the NFL Belichick was the New England Patriots coach from 2000 through 2023 and has scouted plenty of Clemson players. The player who stood out most was defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who played with the Tigers from 2015 to 2018 and was taken by the Miami Dolphins as the 13th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Advertisement "Character, playing ability, all-around player. He could rush, he could run, he was very good at the point of attack, (and) he was great, personal character, really smart kid . . . " Belichick said. "We had a hard time blocking him at Miami twice a year, so I didn't like that." Another player Belichick said gave his team fits was wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who played at Clemson from 2010 to 2012. "We double-covered Hopkins as much as any player I've ever coached," Belichick said. Dabo Swinney on Clemson facing 'New England Patriots' in 2025 Swinney said Clemson will try to beat the "New England Patriots" this season when it faces North Carolina on Oct. 4 and Boston College on Oct. 11. Belichick is in his inaugural season at UNC and Bill O'Brien enters his second season as the Eagles' coach. O'Brien was with the Patriots in various capacities from 2007 through 2011, and in 2023. Advertisement Yet Swinney said he has a secret weapon for both games in special teams player development/specialists coach Ryan Allen. He was the Patriots' punter from 2013 through 2018, winning three Super Bowls with them. "He's our specialist coach, and my secret sauce in finding a way to beat the Patriots in October," Swinney said with a laugh. "We brought him in last year, and so we're going to lean on him heavily to figure out how to defeat y'all." Derrian Carter covers Clemson athletics for The Greenville News and the USA TODAY Network. Rams hold the NFL record for the most times as the last unbeaten team during a season

Rams hold the NFL record for the most times as the last unbeaten team during a season The Los Angeles Rams have been a very successful franchise throughout their time in the NFL. Although they have just two Super Bowls since 1999 and none before it, the Rams have been in the playoffs a lot. One of the more specific accomplishments the Rams have held is being the last unbeaten team in a season. According to FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, the Rams have found themselves as the last team without a loss in any given season nine different times since 1965. Now, they've never gone undefeated (only the 1972 Miami Dolphins did that), but the Rams have been one of the best teams in those seasons they stood atop the standings. 1969 Los Angeles Rams : Started the season 11–0 but lost the final three regular-season games and lost in the playoffs to the Minnesota Vikings. : Started the season 11–0 but lost the final three regular-season games and lost in the playoffs to the Minnesota Vikings. 1970 Los Angeles Rams : Began the year 3–0 but faded down the stretch, finishing 9–4–1 and missed the playoffs. : Began the year 3–0 but faded down the stretch, finishing 9–4–1 and missed the playoffs. 1978 Los Angeles Rams : Jumped out to a 7–0 start before their first loss, ended the season 12–4 and lost in the NFC Championship Game. : Jumped out to a 7–0 start before their first loss, ended the season 12–4 and lost in the NFC Championship Game. 1985 Los Angeles Rams : Opened 7–0, ended 11–5 and reached the NFC Championship Game. : Opened 7–0, ended 11–5 and reached the NFC Championship Game. 1989 Los Angeles Rams : Went 5–0 to begin the season, finished 11–5 and lost in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion 49ers. : Went 5–0 to begin the season, finished 11–5 and lost in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion 49ers. 1999 St. Louis Rams : Began 6–0, finished 13–3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV over the Titans. : Began 6–0, finished 13–3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV over the Titans. 2001 St. Louis Rams : Started 6–0, finished 14–2 and lost Super Bowl XXXVI to the Patriots. : Started 6–0, finished 14–2 and lost Super Bowl XXXVI to the Patriots. 2018 Los Angeles Rams: Opened 8–0 before a shootout loss to the Saints; finished 13–3 and lost Super Bowl LIII to the Patriots in a low-scoring affair. Will the Rams add to this list in 2025? It will be tough considering they play the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Defensive coach filling in as Patriots DC revealed as longtime assistant

Zak Kuhr has taken over some of the defensive coordinator duties with Terrell Williams out due to health reasons. There is currently no timeline for Williams' return, although he has stayed in contact with the coaches and players through Zoom. However, Kuhr noted that he was an extension of Williams and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, and he has worked hard to echo their message. Advertisement Kuhr was an assistant under Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans as a quality control coach and an assistant inside linebackers coach. The two reunited with Vrabel landing the job in New England and Kuhr being brought in as a defensive assistant. This news comes in the final week of OTAs for the Patriots. There is hope that Williams makes a full recovery and returns as the defensive coordinator, but Kuhr's role could be extended if that isn't the case. The personnel on defense has improved significantly, but Kuhr and Williams will have their work cut out for them in turning things around. The Patriots ranked 22nd in total yards allowed per game with an average of 342.9 yards last season, and they also ranked 22nd in points with an average of 24.5 points allowed per game. Advertisement They will have a chance to turn the page with both Vrabel and Williams being strong defensive minds. However, while Williams is gone, Kuhr has a chance to add his imprint on the unit early ahead of training camp. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
