Kerala police plan brain mapping test on tribal woman

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Police are planning to conduct brain mapping test on a 31-year-old tribal woman to shed light on the disappearance of her three-year-old daughter in Nilambur last year.
Sources said the Pookkottumpadam police will soon move the Nilambur Judicial Magistrate Court seeking the nod to conduct brain mapping on the woman, who hails from Cholanaikkan tribe – deemed a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group – and is a person with intellectual disabilities.
They said the cops decided to seek the nod after they could not make any headway in the case as the woman did not reveal what happened to her child.
Brain mapping or brain fingerprinting is a technique in criminal investigation where the brain is prompted to 'talk'. A few electrodes are attached to the scalp after which cues connected to the incident under probe are given.
They act as stimuli prompting the brain to generate waves as responses which are examined using a software. The technique was used in high-profile cases such as the Aarushi Talwar case and Sr Abhaya case.
As per an SC ruling, the test cannot be conducted without the subject's informed consent. In the woman's case, the consent of her immediate relatives are required. If the police get the nod, it will be the first instance of a female member of one of India's most isolated and endangered tribal groups undergoing the test, said a source.

Massive uproar as SC gives Delhi-NCR 8 weeks to remove stray dogs, quotes Hollywood movie to stress urgency

The Supreme Court of India has issued a clear and strict order to Delhi government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR streets within 8 weeks. The bench added if anyone or any group or animal rights activists try to obstruct the removal or sheltering of dogs, they will face strict action, including contempt of court. The court emphasized that this order is for the overall public safety interest and is not influenced by sentiments or animal rights activism. "All these animal activists, will they be able bring back who have fallen prey to rabies," the bench asked. The comment was in reference to July 28 incident wherein a six-year-old girl named Chavi Sharma died from rabies in Delhi's Pooth Kalan area after being bitten by a dog. 🚨 All stray dogs in Delhi NCR to be moved to shelters, want the city to be free of stray dogs - Supreme says no room for sentiments to animal rights activists. Safety of elders and kids The order aims to make public places safe, especially for children and senior citizens, due to the rising number of dog bite cases and related deaths from rabies. "We are not doing this for us—it is for the public interest. So, no sentiments of any nature should be involved. Action should be taken at the earlier. Pick up dogs from all localities and shift them to far off places." Creation of shelters Furthermore, the government and MCD has also been asked to create shelters for these dogs. These shelters should have facilities such as sterilization, immunization and basic care for the dogs. These shelters will monitored with CCTV to ensure that no dogs can escape. The court has ordered the authorities to respond within four hours to pick up the offending dog. SC criticised Animal Birth Control Rules The SC criticized existing Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules that require sterilized dogs to be released back into the same areas. It called these rules "absurd" and ineffective in preventing dog bites or rabies. Citing Hollywood starring Clint Eastwood, it said, "Have you seen the classic 'Good, Bad and the Ugly' - when you want to shoot, shoot don't talk. It's not the time to talk but act. All these so-called animal lovers, will they be able to bring back those children who have given their lives?" Backlash continues If a single stray dog dies in shelter without food, these "judges" JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan should be stripped of legal immunity, dragged to Human Rights Panel and penalty should be levied on these mindless j0kers.#SupremeCourtofIndia #Straydogs #Delhi Meanwhile, the backlash against the order continues. "Why dogs then? Why not these monkeys, pigs and bulls? I have seen literally bulls attacking the elderly and dying on the spot, a user wrote. "Will Supereme Court check the well being of these animals in shelters. What is the plan for that? Kindly share that as well. It is easy for corrupt ppl to pass protects its animals. Or in Kalyug it is easy to suppress weaks n mutes. Well can say 'wrong path of dharma,'" added another one.

Kerala Doctor Duped Of Rs 4.43 Crore In Online Trading Fraud; 2 Arrested

Kannur: The Kerala Police's cyber crime unit arrested two men from Chennai in connection with a sophisticated online trading fraud that defrauded a doctor in Kannur of Rs 4.43 crore, officials said on Monday. The accused, identified as Mehbubasha Farooq and Rijaz, were arrested by the Kannur City Cyber Crime Police from Chennai on Sunday evening, said an officer at the Kannur Cyber Police Station. Farooq is a resident of Chennai, while Rijaz hails from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district and has been settled in Chennai, he added. The duo allegedly operated a fraudulent scheme through WhatsApp, promising the victim substantial returns on investments in a fake online trading platform. The police said that the accused lured the doctor, a resident of Mattannur in Kannur district, into a WhatsApp group that promoted an online share trading plan, assuring him of significant profits in June. The victim was directed to deposit the funds into various bank accounts as part of a "wealth profit plan" under a fake company's guise, identified as Upstock. 'We have traced about Rs 40 lakh deposited by the accused in their accounts. Besides this, the police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. The matter is under investigation now,' said the officer. He said that a part of the money was found to have been transferred abroad, adding that further details could not be disclosed at this stage. He said that no terror angle was found during the investigation. Though the trading app would show the profits earned, he found the platform unresponsive and could not withdraw the amount, prompting him to approach the police to file a complaint with the police on June 25. "The victim was led to believe he was making lucrative investments, but the entire setup was a sham," the cyber police said. The police said the cybercrime team apprehended the accused by tracing their bank account numbers and mobile phones used for the crime. A detailed investigation was launched, and the police were able to trace the financial trail to the two accused in Chennai, leading to their apprehension. The officer said that they are now probing the possibility of a wider network and other victims involved in this online fraud.
