Bursa Malaysia publicly reprimands MCOM for failing to submit audited financials

The Star7 days ago
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd (Bursa Malaysia) has publicly reprimanded MCOM Holdings Bhd for failing to announce its annual audited financial statements (AFS) for the 18-month financial period ended June 30, 2024, by the Oct 31, 2024 deadline.
Bursa Malaysia said MCOM was found in breach of LEAP Market listing requirements (LEAP LR) for not issuing the audited financial statements together with the auditors' and directors' reports within the stipulated timeframe. "As of now, MCOM has yet to announce the AFS 2024,' it said in a stock exchange filing.
"Bursa Malaysia views the breach seriously as timely submission of financial statements is a fundamental obligation of listed companies and of paramount importance in ensuring an orderly and fair market for securities traded on Bursa Malaysia Securities and is necessary to aid informed investment decisions,' it said.
The stock exchange regulator noted that MCOM attributed the delay to insufficient and inexperienced accounting staff, high turnover, and the resignation of its external auditors on Oct 29, 2024, over unsettled audit fees.
"These reasons do not justify the delay, as all listed companies are required to have the necessary funds and resources, including sufficient and available finance and accounting staff, to prepare their financial statements and ensure compliance with the listing requirements.
"MCOM also failed to demonstrate reasonable efforts, including paying the outstanding audit fees to the external auditors, to enable the commencement of the audit and the issuance of the AFS 2024 by the due date,' it said.
Bursa Malaysia said that de-listing procedures have been initiated against MCOM, but it has "decided to defer the de-listing on the condition that the company announces the AFS 2024 on or before Aug 31, 2025, as represented by MCOM.'
The extension also took into account that MCOM had appointed a new auditor on May 21, 2025, it added. - Bernama

Bursa Malaysia set for rebound after stronger-than-expected Q2 GDP growth

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Bursa Malaysia is poised for gains today after Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) announced that the Malaysian economy expanded by 4.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q 2025), equivalent to 4.4 per cent growth in the first half of 2025, said an analyst. The Malaysian economy expanded by 4.4 per cent in 2Q 2025, driven by robust domestic demand as household spending was higher. In 2Q 2024, the country's economy expanded by 5.9 per cent. The 2Q 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) growth was marginally above the consensus forecast of 4.3 per cent (UOB Kay Hian, Maybank Investment Bank, Hong Leong Investment Bank, and Bank Muamalat), though slightly below the 4.5 per cent advance estimate issued last month. At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 6.66 points to 1,574.39 from yesterday's close of 1,581.05. The benchmark index had opened 0.70 of a point firmer at 1,581.75 and moved between 1,571.19 and 1,581.79 throughout the morning trading session. Market breadth was negative with 508 losers outpacing 302 gainers, while 449 counters were unchanged, 1,313 untraded and seven suspended. Turnover stood at 1.11 billion units worth RM812.76 million. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research, Mohd Sedek Jantan, said the 2Q 2025 GDP print released today reaffirmed the resilience of the domestic economy despite an increasingly uncertain global trade policy backdrop. He said the FBM KLCI opened softer at 1,581.75 and briefly touched 1,571.22 at 11.13 am, but sentiment is expected to stabilise and the index to recover as investors digest the stronger-than-expected GDP data. 'Key domestic demand drivers were notably firm, with private consumption rising from RM257.65 billion in 1Q 2025 to RM263.18 billion in 2Q 2025, and gross fixed capital formation increasing from RM91.67 billion to RM97.67 billion over the same period. 'These two components form the cornerstone of domestic growth and are poised to shape market direction in the near term,' he told Bernama. He emphasised that the sequential gains in both private consumption and gross fixed capital formation highlight the sustainability of Malaysia's economic momentum. 'Taken together, these dynamics point to a durable growth trajectory and a constructive market outlook,' he said. Mohd Sedek said for investors, the data provide reassurance that domestic demand will remain a dependable engine for corporate earnings, thereby reducing reliance on more volatile external markets. 'This resilience should continue to underpin equity valuations, particularly in consumer-oriented, construction, and infrastructure-linked sectors, while anchoring broader investor confidence in Malaysia's medium-term prospects,' he said. Among the heavyweights, Public Bank and CIMB added 1.0 sen to RM4.46 and RM7.21, respectively. Tenaga Nasional and IHH Healthcare eased 6.0 sen each to RM13.62 and RM6.84, while Maybank was flat at RM9.84. Among the most active counters, Tanco gained 1.0 sen to 73 sen, Oxford Innotech expanded 1.5 sen to 42.5 sen, Zetrix AI inched down half-a-sen to 89.5 sen, while TWL and Salutica were flat at 2.5 sen and 20.5 sen. Across the broader market, the FBM Emas Index slid 47.38 points to 11,713.54, the FBMT 100 Index trimmed 48.11 points to 11,495.61, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 74.31 points to 11,634.14, and the FBM Mid 70 Index declined 67.24 points to 16,622.69, but the FBM ACE Index rose 30.34 points to 4,696.88. Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index rose 24.83 points to 18,075.36, the Plantation Index fell 66.12 points to 7,515.53, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 1.42 points to 157.52, and the Energy Index shaved 0.84 of a point to 738.65. — Bernama

Bursa opens lower as traders adopt wait-and-see approach

KUALA LUMPUR : Bursa Malaysia opened marginally lower today as traders adopted a wait-and-see approach amid cautious sentiment ahead of the second quarter 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) announcement later today. The announcement will deliver the first substantive read-through on the economic drag arising from recent US tariff announcements. At 9.05am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) inched down 0.51 of a point to 1,580.54 from yesterday's close of 1,581.05. The benchmark index opened 0.70 of a point firmer at 1,581.75. However, the market breadth was positive, with advancers leading decliners 110 to 108. A total of 231 counters were unchanged, 2,123 untraded and seven suspended. Turnover stood at 83.43 million shares worth RM36.44 million. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Sedek Jantan said that historically, the GDP growth has been anchored by private consumption averaging around 49% of nominal GDP and private investment at approximately 23%. 'Should either of these core pillars fall materially below their long-run averages – particularly if private investment remains near its recent 18.5% level – it could undermine investor confidence and heighten risk aversion in domestic markets,' he noted. He highlighted that although the GDP is a lagging indicator, it provides an essential 'health check' on the macroeconomic landscape, shaping asset allocation and sector positioning. Moreover, he said the forthcoming release will be scrutinised for evidence of shifts in consumption momentum and investment appetite, both of which are central to sustaining Malaysia's growth trajectory in the second half of the year. 'Advance estimates point to growth of 4.5%, against economists' consensus of 4.3%. 'Beyond the structural drivers noted earlier, should the overall GDP slip below 4.0%, market sentiment could weaken temporarily; however, the FBM KLCI is still likely to draw buy-on-weakness interest,' he added. Among the heavyweight stocks, Maybank, Public Bank and CIMB added one sen to RM9.85, RM4.46, and RM7.21, respectively. Tenaga Nasional went up two sen to RM13.70, while IHH Healthcare was one sen lower at RM6.89. On the actively traded list, TWL, Pharmaniaga, Mtouche Technology, and Malaysian Resources Corporation were flat at 2.5 sen, 17.5 sen, 3.5 sen and 52 sen, respectively. Oriental Kopi went down one sen to 97.5 sen. On the broader market, the FBM Emas Index weakened 2.93 points to 11,757.99, the FBMT 100 Index fell 3.95 points to 11,539.77, the FBM Emas Shariah Index gave up 10.29 points to 11,698.16, and the FBM Mid 70 Index slipped 6.62 points to 16,683.31, while the FBM ACE Index picked up 2.62 points to 4,669.16. By sector, the Financial Services Index advanced 28.22 points to 18,078.75, the Plantation Index bagged 6.96 points to 7,588.61, but the Energy Index edged down 0.62 of a point to 738.87, and the Industrial Products and Services Index shaved 0.75 of a point to 158.19.
