Jacob is astounded by two life-changing secrets about Sarah in Emmerdale
Poor Sarah has been in poor health since birth, after being diagnosed with the rare blood disorder Fanconi Anemia as child.
In 2017, Sarah was also diagnosed with throat cancer, undergoing successful treatment in Prague and back in the UK. A year later, she had a heart transplant after suffering heart failure (a rare side-effect of the chemotherapy), adding to the list of terrible ailments she's struggled with throughout her life.
Sarah has been doing relatively well since then, although her condition means that she faces a much shorter life span than most people. As a result, she's been desperate to have a child before it's too late.
This led to her pursuing IVF as a means to get pregnant – in spite of Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and grandma Charity Dingle's (Emma Atkins) fears that she's setting herself up for a fall… or worse.
That fall comes this week, as Sarah is hit with even more devastating news- leaving Jacob shocked as she shares what she's learned.
Still set on IVF, Sarah attends a hospital appointment alone to get the results of her recent biopsy.
She's horrified when the consultant confirms her worst fears – telling her that she has the early stages of cervical cancer.
Sarah struggles to comprehend what she's hearing, but is relieved to learn that she may still be able to get pregnant, in spite of the diagnosis.
Her head swimming at the news, Sarah leaves the consultant's office. Outside the room, she bumps into Jacob, there on a shift.
Noticing her upset, Jacob offers her support – and she soon crumbles, telling him that she's been diagnosed with cancer.
When she tells him that they found the cancer because she's hoping to have a baby, Jacob's cold reaction leaves her shocked and disappointed.
He tells her that she's selfish for wanting a baby, explaining what an impact losing a mother can have on any child. Well, having recently lost his own mum, he would know.
He's shocked to realise that he's the only one who knows about Sarah's cancer and the IVF.
But what will he do?
Actor Katie Hill, who plays Sarah, has revealed Sarah's reasons for pursuing IVF, saying: 'She's lonely, she doesn't feel like she has much of a purpose right now and so she's set on the idea of having a baby.
'If she has it now, if she was to die in 20 years her mindset is that well at least the kid would have grown up with it, and she'd have had those years with the child.'
Of Manpreet and Charity's tepid reaction to her IVF quest, Sarah said: 'She's set on the fact that she wants to do it, she's not paying attention. She's doing research and holding onto the fact that a handful of people have been able to do it and so she's not listening to anyone who's telling her what to do.'
But with the cancer diagnosis comes more fears for her already fragile health.
'She's trying to stay positive, she thinks everything is gonna work out. When Sarah gets told about the cancer diagnosis her head is like, 'okay, but am I gonna be able to have a baby still?'' Katie said.
She continued: 'She's obviously dealt with cancer growing up, she's been through so much she's quite good at handling stuff like that as much as it hurts to hear. She takes the route of I'm gonna focus on having this baby, the IVF, so that's where she's at with her mental state. I just want to have this baby and get the cancer out the way.'
Sarah's decision to pursue IVF comes after her failed romance with newcomer Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) which saw him and Jacob at loggerheads over her attention.
Their relationship may not have lasted, but it did leave Sarah more certain than ever of what she wants out of life.
'For a while she was trying to find her purpose. Girls her age have boyfriends, that's what they do they get in relationships. Then she had the whole situation with Kammy and Jacob and she went you know what, I don't need boys, then decided a baby was the right choice. So she's had a busy few months,' Katie revealed.
But that's not to say she's ruling out a potential reunion with Jacob. More Trending
'I think the way it ended, Sarah didn't want it to end so those feelings haven't been cut off straight away. They went through so much together when he was grieving his mum,' Katie said.
'I think the door, in my view, is hopefully still open to explore something in the future together and I think they need to communicate better. It would be nice if they could come back together.'

Nadine Coyle: 'I'll honour Sarah Harding forever'
Nadine Coyle has vowed to honour Sarah Harding in everything she does, almost five years on from the Girls Aloud star's death. The beloved pop star died in September 2021 at the age of 39 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August the previous year. Since then, her Sound of the Underground bandmates—Nadine, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts—have fundraised in her memory and continue to keep her alive through the group's music. Speaking exclusively to Metro, Nadine, 40, has now declared that 'Sarah will always be honoured' by the girls. It comes after she and her fellow bandmates, who were put together on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, completed a 30-date tour across the UK and Ireland as a four-piece. Titled The Girls Aloud Show, it was their first tour as a quartet and consisted of all their major hits, also including emotional tributes to Harding throughout. On why Harding simply had to feature in the set, Nadine told us: 'It's so important. She's such a huge part of the band in so many ways, and to not have her there is very surreal.' 'Even talking about it still feels surreal that that's the way that it is,' she admitted. 'And definitely some of the rehearsals and bits that Sarah and I would usually do together, I was doing it with Nicola, and it was difficult; those were some tough days. 'But we definitely knuckled down and tried to just see it for how important it was that we did the tour and did it for Sarah and spent time with the fans.' Nadine has never made any secret of her love for Girls Aloud, declaring even today that it's 'great to still be doing it all these years later'. She added that it's still just as 'fun' to be part of one of the UK's biggest girl bands, despite the 'hard parts' fans aren't privy to. 'You don't see all the work or all the things that go into it, but that's, like, anything. You don't get to see behind the screen and see everybody's jobs.' Nadine proceeded to shrug off 'concerns' with her identity beyond the group, saying she 'feels very confident in [herself] and who [she] is'. 'I have never really had to overthink my identity because it's there. I think if I had been concerned enough to try and conform or try to have myself be something more palatable, I reckon this accent would've gone a long time ago, and it hasn't!', she joked. This summer, the Derry-born musician will headline the Clapham Grand Pride Day Party as part of their celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community. Having always had a loyal LGBTQ+ following, Nadine is no stranger to performing at a Pride event, admitting that it 'wouldn't be summer' without it. 'lt's my third time doing the Clapham Grand, and every time I've done it, it's been such a fun time, and this one, you'll have London Pride, then it will come to Clapham, and you can have a great night there, and we can all hang out together again and have a wonderful time.' Asked about the importance of being an LGBTQ+ ally, Nadine said it's not something that ever 'comes into question'. More Trending 'It is just what it is. It's as natural as anything in the world for me. 'I am so proud of my friends and people who have faced struggles that mean we all get to live in this somewhat peaceful existence. 'I'm really up for people having themselves be whoever it is they feel natural being and enjoying that, and I hope that for myself, and I hope that for everybody else.' Nadine Coyle returns to The Clapham Grand to headline their Pride Day Party on Saturday, July 5, from 5-10pm, as part of the venue's biggest ever day of Pride celebrations. Get all tickets here. Gran who won £4m Omaze mansion in Highlands puts stunning home on the market after four months
Patricia Moule won the luxury lochside property near Rannoch in Perthshire in April. A widower who won a £4m Highlands mansion in an Omaze prize draw has put the stunning property up for sale after four months. Patricia Moule, from Southampton, landed the luxury lochside property near Rannoch in Perthshire in April. The five-bedroom home, which boasts its own private jetty and tennis court, is now listed with estate agents Knight Frank for offers over £3.975 million. The 81-year-old said her late husband would be "smiling down" after she became a millionaire overnight. The former Personal Manager said she was overwhelmed as she celebrated her win with daughter, Sarah, 57, and granddaughter Louisa, 18. She described the win at the time as 'breathtaking,'and said she had 'never seen anything so beautiful in all my life.' But despite the additional £250,000 in cash that came with the prize, she has opted to sell the property, saying the proceeds will be life-changing for her family, reports the Mirror. She said: "Thanks to the £250,000 I also got as part of my win, I could afford to stay here for years if I wanted to, but I will sell it as the huge amount of money from the sale is so transformational for the family, it's a generational legacy that means their future is now secure." The modern mansion, which sits on the southern shore of Loch Rannoch, was designed to the highest standard, offering over 8,800 square feet of open-plan luxury. As well as five bathrooms and three reception rooms, the property includes a separate two-bedroom cottage, steading with garage and workshop, a summer house, formal gardens, and nearly a kilometre of loch frontage. The site also has a fascinating history. Once the seat of Clan Robertson of Struan, Carie House was at the centre of Jacobite resistance in 1745, with Bonnie Prince Charlie said to have hidden nearby on Ben Alder following the defeat at Culloden. The current house was completed in 2014, featuring high-end finishes such as Caithness stone floors, triple glazing, oak panelling, and a vaulted kitchen with premium appliances. A Velfac glazing system, Sonos sound, and underfloor heating provide modern comfort, while extensive grounds span more than 58 acres of gardens, pasture, woodland, and rough grazing. The draw, backed by Succession star Brian Cox, raised money for Alzheimer's Research UK. Omaze president James Oakes said at the time: 'Winners are free to move in, rent out, or sell – it's completely their choice.' Patricia isn't the only Omaze winner to cash in. A £3 million pad in Wirral, Merseyside, with spectacular coastal views, a cinema room, and a heated outdoor swimming pool, was won by Lauren Keene in December and put up for sale for a cut price £2.5m. In January it emerged Tom Steenson, 63, put his luxury mansion with sea views in Exmouth on the market for £2.35 million. In April a couple who bagged a £3million mansion in Cornwall put the property back on the market for £4million just weeks later.. Widow June Smith also put the luxury £4.5million Cornish mansion she won in 2023 up for sale so that she could help her children and grandchildren 'with the next chapter in their lives'.
