Google cofounder Sergey Brin on why he is back to work almost every day now after retirement: There's just have never been a greater problem, and …

Google
cofounder
Sergey Brin
has officially returned from retirement, working "pretty much every day now" at the tech giant to help develop its artificial intelligence products as the company races to dominate the generative AI landscape.
Speaking at Google's I/O developer conference on Tuesday, Brin made a surprise appearance alongside
DeepMind
CEO Demis Hassabis, where he revealed the extent of his involvement in Google's AI efforts since 2023. The 51-year-old tech pioneer left
Alphabet
in 2019 but returned following OpenAI's
ChatGPT
release in 2022, which sent shockwaves through the industry.
"Honestly, anybody who's a computer scientist should not be retired right now," Brin told Big Technology's Alex Kantrowitz during the live interview. "There's just never been a greater, sort of, problem and opportunity — greater cusp of technology."

Brin's comeback isn't just about keeping pace with competitors. He's directly involved in training Google's latest
Gemini
models, leveraging his technical expertise to push the boundaries of AI capabilities. The company has ambitious goals for its AI assistant.
"We fully intend that Gemini will be the very first AGI," Brin declared, referring to artificial general intelligence—a milestone where machines can solve human tasks across various domains.
During a September 2024 fireside chat at the All-In Summit, Brin had already hinted at his deep involvement, confirming he was back at Google working on AI. He explained that while Google historically used smaller, task-specific AI models, "the trend is to have a more unified model."
From retirement projects to AI leadership
The return to full-time work represents a dramatic shift for Brin, whose retirement included ventures like airship startup LTA Research, funding Parkinson's disease research, and real estate investments. Now he's focused on one of tech's most competitive battlegrounds.
Google faces enormous computational demands as it scales its AI capabilities. "For us, we're building out compute as quickly as we can. We just have a huge amount of demand," Brin noted in 2024, revealing that Google has had to turn down cloud customers due to resource constraints.
Having witnessed the evolution from Web 1.0 to today's AI revolution, Brin considers artificial intelligence "far more exciting" than previous technological advances and believes it will have a greater impact on the world than anything he's experienced in his decades-long career.

ITR filing for AY 2025-26: 7 prominent changes in ITR excel utilities for FY 2024-25, which taxpayers including salaried should know

What are the changes in ITR validation rules for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26)? As on date only the excel based ITR filing utilities for ITR-1 and 4 have been released. A brief look at these forms suggests that most of these changes are relevant for salaried persons, or those taxpayers who have any electric car loan, home loan, house rent, etc i.e. those who need to file of these changes are in the nature of enhanced declarations. Experts say this has been done to stop the instances of false claims of income tax deductions at the time of ITR filing. Earlier, the tax department used to check the tax deduction's authenticity manually at the time of processing the ITR. Now this process is automated and brought at the ITR filing level, which means less chances of errors in ITR and possible faster processing of of the changes in validation rules relate to tax deductions that can be claimed under the old tax regime. Here are seven changes introduced in the ITR filing utility for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26): claiming HRA exemption must now provide comprehensive details, including:Source: ITR-1 excel utilityTaxpayers now have to disclose the policy number or document identification number to claim Section 80C tax deduction. In technical terms, in earlier ITR forms, only aggregate deduction amounts were entered, and supporting documentation was needed only upon scrutiny. Now, the ITR utility is capturing this information upfront, indicating a shift toward pre-validation and increased compliance transparency.'Experts say the tax deduction system was abused, which is why the tax department may have introduced these changes. Chartered Accountant Ashish Niraj, Partner, A S N & Company, says: " In recent past income tax department has detected many cases where Income Tax Refund was obtained on the basis of false claims or forged documents, hence additional information are being sought now in ITR 1 for cross verification purpose at the time of assessment if required.'

NSE vs BSE: Turf war over derivatives market heats up

A rivalry between India's major stock exchanges has entered a high-stakes phase, as they wrestle for control over the derivatives market in potential implications for everything from trading volumes to liquidity flows. The National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. is trying to change the expiration for listed derivative contracts from Thursday to Tuesday — a day traditionally dominated by its smaller bourse BSE Ltd . A shift could help the NSE regain market share from its rival, which has benefited after curbs by the capital markets regulator hit trading of NSE's most-popular options, pushing traders to look for alternatives at the BSE. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Santo André: Quanto vale a sua casa? It can potentially reshape India's options trading by fragmenting liquidity, influencing fee income and forcing brokers to realign their trade execution strategies. For the NSE, retaining its competitive edge becomes crucial ahead of a long-anticipated listing. Bloomberg 'It will only get more competitive from here,' said Maurya Ghelani, derivatives strategist at Kai Securities in Mumbai. 'A lot depends on how the BSE responds, and it may have to contend with ceding some ground back to the NSE.' Derivatives trading accounts for a significant chunk of revenue for both exchanges, with India attracting global quantitative trading firms like Citadel and Jane Street. The NSE has seen a steady decline in its market share in the past year as the securities regulator culled highly traded weekly contracts such as the ones on the NSE Nifty Bank Index, prompting a shift toward options on the S&P BSE Sensex Index. Live Events Since the Securities and Exchange Board of India began its latest curbs to halt the derivatives frenzy, the NSE has struggled to stick to an expiration day. In November, it said it would move it to Thursday for several index derivatives, following BSE's streamlining of its expiries to Tuesday. Then in March, the NSE unexpectedly said it would change its expiration day to Monday, putting it ahead of the BSE's. The move was quickly abandoned as the regulator pushed the exchanges to stick to either Tuesday or Thursday. The news of a new push for a change to Tuesday came last week. The BSE hasn't said whether it will stick to Tuesday or consider moving its expiration to Thursday. The Sebi, which says it aims to protect investor interests and maintain market stability, has yet to announce its decision on the NSE's request to move its expiry day. For his part, NSE Chief Executive Officer Ashish Kumar Chauhan told analysts in its latest earnings call that the market share loss has 'run its course.' Ghelani of Kai Securities said aligning expiry days could lead to new product launches by exchanges and deeper integration among existing ones. Meanwhile, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd. is also planning to enter the fray. While intensified competition may lead to short-term volatility and fragmentation, some say the derivatives market may benefit in the long run. 'More options will bring more opportunities for the trader community,' said Sahaj Agrawal, head of derivatives research at Kotak Securities. 'This could spur innovation and better services for traders.'
