Popular Travel Charger Just Recalled After Reports of Fires
If you've packed an Anker "PowerCore 10000" portable charger in your bag, now's the time to double-check the model number.
Anker Innovations, one of the most recognized names in mobile charging tech, has recalled 1.15 million units of its PowerCore 10000 power bank (model A1263) after at least 19 reported cases of fires or explosions, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Sold between June 2016 and December 2022 through Anker's website, Amazon, eBay, and Newegg, the $27 charger has been a go-to for travelers and commuters alike.
However, the lithium-ion battery inside some units poses a serious safety risk. It can overheat, melt plastic, and in some cases, catch fire. Anker confirmed the recall was issued 'out of an abundance of caution.'
The CPSC reports that the incidents included two minor burn injuries and 11 cases of property damage totaling over $60,000. Anker is urging consumers to stop using the affected chargers immediately and to visit their website to see if their device is part of the recall.
To receive a free replacement, customers will need to submit a photo showing the charger's model and serial number, along with their name, the date, and the word "recalled" written on the device. The company has detailed instructions online to walk users through the process.
It's also important to note: don't toss these power banks in the trash. Lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of according to specific local guidelines due to their risk of fire in standard waste and recycling systems.
While lithium-ion batteries power everything from smartphones to e-bikes, they're increasingly under scrutiny for overheating incidents. Signs of trouble include odd smells, discoloration, swelling, or heat. If you notice any of these in any lithium-powered device, stop using it immediately.
If you're carrying a power bank that's been with you for years, this might be a good time to check the label. One small device could be hiding a big risk.Popular Travel Charger Just Recalled After Reports of Fires first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 13, 2025

Summer is almost officially here, but there's no sense in waiting on the calendar to dive into some summer activities. Things like picnics, cookouts, and road trips can be made more worthwhile if you've got some power on-hand, which is why we'd like to direct you to the Anker Solix C1000. The portable power station is on sale for $449 right now, which is $350 off its regular price of $799. This is also one of It's best prices ever. We don't just think highly of the Anker Solix C1000, we happen to think it's the best portable power station on the market right now. Anker does a great job of keeping its size manageable while at the same time packing it with features. Its HyperFlash charging technology is pretty groundbreaking, in that the C1000 can go from dead to 80% capacity in just 43 minutes of charging. This will allow you to spend more time with it in the wild and less time waiting for it to charge up. When it comes to putting the C1000 to use, it's the perfect power station for things like phones, tablets, and laptops, but it can handle far more than smaller devices. It can keep a portable refrigerator running for up to 33 hours, a camping light for up to 60 hours, a coffee maker for nearly three hours, and a cooler for more than 17 hours. The C1000 can also come in handy during power outages at home, as it can power a Wi-Fi router for up to 52 hours, a refrigerator for up to 14 hours, and your home's lights for up to 50 hours. The C1000 is a super capable portable power station that just about anyone could find useful at some point or another. While the Anker Solix C1000 regularly goes for $799, this massive discount at Amazon drops it to $449. Over 1.1M power banks recalled after reports of fires, explosions
Anker Innovations is recalling more than 1.1 million power banks after some users reported fires and explosions. The company said a problem could potentially make the lithium-ion battery within some of its Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks overheat 'leading to melting of plastic components, smoke, and fire hazards.' Advertisement The recall, announced Thursday, specifically applies to Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks bearing the model number 'A1263' and certain serial numbers that were sold in the U.S., according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The model number and serial number can be found on a label affixed to the bottom of the power bank. Sales of the recalled power banks occurred on Anker's website, as well as Amazon, Newegg and Ebay, between June 2016 and December 2022. Anker said on its website that it issued the recall 'out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our customers.' AP There have been 19 instances of fires and explosions related to the battery issue, according to the CPSC recall notice. Two incidents resulted in 'minor burn injuries' that did not need medical attention. Property damage worth more than $60,700 arose out of 11 incidents. Consumers 'should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and contact Anker Innovations for instructions on receiving a free replacement power bank,' the CPSC notice said. They can register for the recall on a designated page on Anker's website. 'Even if it appears to function normally, there may still be a risk of overheating, fire, or other safety issues.' Owners of the recalled power banks will need to provide a photo 'showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date of the photograph, and the word 'recalled' written on the power bank in permanent marker' to get a replacement, per the notice. They will have to provide proof that they safely disposed of the power banks as well. Anker said the power banks must be disposed of at a 'certified facility that accepts recalled lithium batteries' as they cannot be tossed in the trash or recycled normally. The company will give consumers the option to either wait for the replacement or get a $30 gift card 'if replacements are on back order,' according to Anker's website.
