Left G7 summit early not because of Iran, but something much bigger: Trump

Calgary, June 17 (UNI) US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he left the G7 summit early not to work on a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, but for something "much bigger than that."
Late on Monday, White House Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump will leave the G7 Summit in Canada earlier than it was scheduled because of the situation in the Middle East.
Trump, in turn, ordered the US National Security Council to be ready to meet in the White House Situation Room upon his return to Washington.
Reuters later reported that French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that the United States had offered to help achieve a ceasefire.
"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a "ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a ceasefire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay tuned!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Melania Trump demands Hunter Biden retract 'extremely salacious' Epstein comments

WASHINGTON: US First lady Melania Trump demanded that Hunter Biden retract comments linking her to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and threatened to sue if he does not. Trump takes issue with two comments Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, made in an interview this month with British journalist Andrew Callaghan. He alleged that Epstein introduced the first lady to now-President Donald Trump. The statements are false, defamatory and 'extremely salacious,' Melania Trump's lawyer, Alejandro Brito, wrote in a letter to Biden. Biden's remarks were widely disseminated on social media and reported by media outlets around the world, causing the first lady 'to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm,' he wrote. Biden made the Epstein comments during a sprawling interview in which he lashed out at 'elites' and others in the Democratic Party he says undermined his father before he dropped out of last year's presidential campaign. 'Epstein introduced Melania to Trump. The connections are, like, so wide and deep,' Biden said in one of the comments Trump disputes. Biden attributed the claim to author Michael Wolff, whom Trump disparaged in June as a 'Third Rate Reporter.' He has accused Wolff of making up stories to sell books. The first lady's threats echo a favored strategy of her husband, who has aggressively used litigation to go after critics. Public figures like the Trumps face a high bar to succeed in a defamation lawsuit. The president and first lady have long said they were introduced by Paolo Zampolli, a modeling agent, at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998. The letter is dated Aug. 6 and was first reported Wednesday by Fox News Digital. Abbe Lowell, a lawyer who has represented Biden in his criminal cases and to whom Brito's letter is addressed, did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Wednesday.

On Pak Independence Day, US Praises Islamabad's Counter-Terror Efforts, But Remains Mum on Munir

/ Aug 14, 2025, 12:05PM IST In a move set to anger New Delhi, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has lauded Pakistan's counterterrorism efforts on its Independence Day, while completely ignoring India's own war on terror. The praise comes barely months after the Pahalgam massacre, where LeT-linked TRF killed 26 civilians, and which the US has only now banned alongside the Balochistan Liberation Army. India's fierce response, Operation Sindoor, struck deep into terror camps in Pakistan and PoK despite US President Trump warning India to stand down. Rubio's warm embrace of Islamabad follows Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir's trip to Washington, where he openly threatened India with nuclear war, a provocation met with silence from the US. With tensions already high over Trump's tariff offensive on India and New Delhi's refusal to stop buying Russian oil, Washington's shift signals a dangerous recalibration in South Asia, one that risks emboldening Pakistan while straining US–India trust.

Who is Sean Charles Dunn? DC man held for hurling ‘sandwich', abuses at federal officer; ‘Don't want you in my city'

A man was arrested for throwing a sandwich at a federal officer on patrol in Washington, D.C., and calling him a 'fascist'. Members of the DEA and Police patrol at The Wharf after U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of the federal take over of the Metropolitan Police Department under the Home Rule Act and the deployment of the National Guard to assist in crime prevention in the nation's capital, in Washington, D.C., U.S., August 13, 2025. REUTERS/Evelyn Hockstein(REUTERS) According to court records accessed by The Independent, Sean Charles Dunn is charged with confronting a group of law enforcement agents on Sunday night and yelling at Customs and Border Protection Agent Gregory Lairmore. Dunn shouted, 'F*** you!' and pointed to the ground. 'You f***ing fascists! Why are you here? I don't want you in my city!' he added while standing closure to Lairmore. The squad also included a detective from the Metro Transit Police and additional federal agents. According to authorities, Dunn continued to hurl slurs at Lairmore for a few minutes before crossing the street. In the records, which referenced an Instagram video captured by an onlooker, he then returned to 'forcefully' toss a 'sub-style sandwich' at Lairmore. Sean Charles Dunn admits allegations Dunn was apprehended despite his attempt to flee. 'I did it. threw a sandwich,' he confessed to the police as per the documents. The man was accused of assaulting, obstructing, or resisting various US officials and employees. The announcement came a day after Dunn was arrested. However, reports indicate that crime rates had been falling since 2023. According to The New York Times, which cited Army spokesman Colonel Dave Butler, National Guard troops began pacing D.C. streets Tuesday night and will have between 100 and 200 troops patrolling at any given moment in the days ahead. Approximately 800 troops are anticipated to be deployed. The Trump administration claims that at least 66 people have been arrested since the start of the federal takeover.
