RCMP search for missing driver in Westphal car crash
RCMP are asking for public assistance to find a man who fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the weekend in Westphal, N.S.
An RCMP news release Tuesday said officers who responded to the 200 block of Lake Major Road at roughly 1:09 a.m. Saturday learned a Pontiac Grand Prix had sped into a power pole, severing it. The car then struck a parked dump truck and another pole before catching fire.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was seen running into the nearby woods before police arrived. A subsequent search of the area failed to locate the man.
Investigators say anyone with information should contact Halifax RCMP at 902-490-5020 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Driver nabbed at triple the speed limit claimed he was being chased: Kelowna RCMP
Be careful who you flash. A 36-year-old Kelowna man found this out the hard way, when speeding on Highway 97 in the early morning hours of Aug. 4. He was clocked at 218 km/h in a 70 zone, speeding by other vehicles while flashing his lights to move them over. One of the vehicles he flashed his lights at just happened to be an RCMP cruiser. 'This is one of 220 vehicles that have been impounded for excessive speed by Kelowna B.C. highway patrol so far this year,' said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with B.C. highway patrol. 'Speeding at triple the limit is incredibly dangerous at any time of day. The financial penalties are serious, but there are many examples where this kind of speed ends in death.' Despite the main claiming he was being chased by two men — he was unable to provide a description of them — the man's Honda Civic was impounded for seven days. He was also cited for excessive speeding ($483), driving without due care and attention ($68) in addition to the towing and impound fees. He was also given a notice and order for insufficient tires, lowered suspension modifications, and a severely cracked windshield, which he will have to pay for the replacement parts and subsequent inspection. The vehicle's licence plates were seized and the car will need to pass inspection to be reinsured, and a high-risk driving report was sent to the B.C. Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for an immediate driver's licence review. The attending officer also gave the driver his business card should his memory of the two men chasing him return. He hasn't received a phone call as of press time.

Calgary man charged with abduction after youth enact 'catch a predator' scheme through Snapchat
A 12-year-old involved in a 'catch-a-predator' plan with a group of other youth was allegedly abducted while meeting a man in Airdrie Aug. 18. Article content Article content Airdrie RCMP have charged an unnamed Calgary man with multiple offences after responding to an alleged attempt to abduct a 12-year-old boy on Monday. Article content Around 7:50 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call after the victim escaped from the suspect's vehicle while it was stopped at a red light. Article content RCMP located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect fled southbound on Highway 2. Article content Airdrie RCMP received help from the Calgary Police Service, including assistance from the HAWCS police helicopter, to locate the suspect at a northeast Calgary residence. Pedestrian struck, killed by train in Langley, B.C.
Langley RCMP say the driver of a stolen semi-truck has been arrested after a kilometres-long police chase that ended with the vehicle being driven into the Fraser River. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jason Franson Mounties are investigating after one person was struck and killed by a train Tuesday evening in Langley, B.C. Police, paramedics and firefighters responded to the scene near Crush Crescent and Glover Road at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to a statement from the Langley RCMP. ADVERTISEMENT 'Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene,' said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, in the statement Wednesday. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the fatal pedestrian collision to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
