Belgium's King Philippe reacted strongly to the bombings in Gaza. He described it as a 'disgrace to humanity" in a speech on the eve of Monday's national day. Philippe's statement is gaining a lot of attention on social media as it is quite unusual to hear such direct statements from a monarch who avoids public politics.
'I add my voice to all those who denounce the serious humanitarian abuses in Gaza, where innocent people are dying of hunger and being killed by bombs while trapped in their enclaves," his statement at his palace in Brussels was quoted by Reuters.
'The current situation has gone on for far too long. It is a disgrace to all of humanity. We support the call by the United Nations Secretary-General to immediately end this unbearable crisis," he added.
Philippe's strong and clear public statement marked his first outspoken stance on a conflict. Belgium's federal government has been more reserved in its criticism regarding the Gaza conflict.
The king's role in Belgium is limited to offering advice, support, and warnings to the government, without engaging in political decision-making.
Israel began its attack on Gaza after an October 2023 attack by Hamas-led fighters on Israeli towns, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages being taken. Since then, Israeli forces have killed over 59,000 people in Gaza, according to health officials. Much of the area has been devastated, and Israel has restricted food and other supplies.

It accused Hamas of prolonging the war by refusing to accept an Israeli-backed proposal for a temporary ceasefire and hostage release. 'Hamas is the sole party responsible for the continuation of the war and the suffering on both sides,' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oren Marmorstein posted on X. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also rejected the statement from many of America's closest allies, calling it 'disgusting' in a post on X and saying they should instead pressure the 'savages of Hamas.' Germany was also notably absent from the statement. YSRCP flays govt for pursuing ‘vindictive' politics
Nellore: YSR Congress Party MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy has alleged that the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu was encouraging vindictive politics to divert the attention of people from its failures. In the wake of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arresting Rajampet YSRCP MP Peddireddy Reddy Midhun Reddy, Chandrasekhar Reddy addressed a media conference at his camp office here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, the MLC has pointed out that it has become common practice for the coalition government to arrest the YSRCP leaders if they raised queries over its failures in the administration. Chandrasekhar Reddy pointed out series of arrests of the YSRCP leaders like Kakani Govardhan Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Krishnamohan Reddy and Dhanunjaya Reddy etc during the past few months. The MLC alleged that the government which illegally confined former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy in jail by imposing 17 cases, now freshly targeted the Rajampet MP though he was in no way connected with the liquor policy. The MLC alleged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu developed a personal grudge against ‚ Peddireddy's family as the TDP was wiped out in Chittoor district during 2019 elections. The MLC said the people of AP were silently watching the vindictive policies being implemented by the TDP-led government and they were waiting for appropriate time to teach a lesson.

Nellore: MP Vemireddy Prabhakara Reddy has said that he feels fortunate to work under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu who has been striving hard for the development of the State. As part of ongoing 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' programme, the MP along with Kavali MLA Dagumati Venkata Krishna Reddy has inaugurated Rs 6-crore worth various developmental programmes at Chelamcharla village in Kavali rural mandal on Monday. Speaking on thet occasion, the MP said that during his tours for 20 times to New Delhi as Chief Minister, 'Chandrababu Naidu has brought several projects worth crores of rupees to AP as no Chief Minister earlier has done to protect the interests of the State.
