The point is, Scottie, you are simply the best
After cruising to a four-shot victory at Royal Portrush on Sunday, the world number one American pumped his fists in celebration.
"Thanks to the fans for all the support," Scheffler said after lifting the Claret Jug.
"I know I wasn't the fan favourite today so I appreciate you guys coming out to support. Overall, it's been a great week, the fan support was tremendous. It was a really fun week to be able to play in front of such a great crowd."
Scheffler's son Bennett fell over as he tried to run to his dad on the green before the British Open champion scooped him up and held him alongside the trophy.
"Thanks to my wife and son - I love you very much and can't wait to get home and celebrate," Scheffler said.
"To my parents and the rest of the team, I can't thank you guys enough. I've got the best support team. Everyone does such a great job of working together."
There was a strong sense of inevitability about Scheffler winning his fourth major title and second of the year.
Three early birdies sent him seven shots clear and even when he double-bogeyed the eighth hole, failing to escape from a bunker at the first attempt, there was no panic.
NERVELESS PUTT
Scheffler birdied the ninth with a five-foot putt, reverted to his risk-free strategy and picked up another shot at the 12th with a nerveless eight-footer.
Six pars followed and he finished the week with only three bogeys alongside his late double.
Watching him celebrate his victory, it was hard not to think about his pre-tournament comments.
"This is not a fulfilling life," he said. "It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart," the 29-year-old said.
Scheffler has dominated golf since 2022.
He won the Masters in 2022 and 2024, and the Olympic gold medal last year as whispers in golf have likened his dominance to that of 15-times major champion Tiger Woods in his prime.
His rivals are in no doubt about his quality.
"I played with him the first two days, and honestly I thought he was going to birdie every hole," 2019 Portrush Open champion Shane Lowry said. "It was incredible to watch."
American Bryson DeChambeau, the twice U.S. Open champion who finished tied 10th at Portrush, played against Scheffler many times during their youth.
"I knew at college he was going to be a good player, but not this good. He's setting a benchmark we all want to get to," DeChambeau said.
"Scottie's in a league of his own right now. He's incredible. He really is.

Centre likely to table Sports Governance bill, anti-doping amendments in Parliament today
New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): With the aim of promoting sports and providing facilities and welfare measures for sports persons, the Centre is expected to introduce the much-awaited National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the third day of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. According to the list of business published by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandviya is expected to move both the bills in the House today. The bill aims to provide for the development and promotion of sports, welfare measures for sportspersons, ethical practices based on basic universal principles of good governance, ethics and fair play of the Olympic and sports movement, the Olympic Charter, the Paralympic Charter, international best practices and established legal standards and to provide for the resolution of sports grievances and sports disputes in a unified, equitable and effective manner and for related matters. Officials have earlier stated that the National Sports Governance Bill is aimed at addressing issues such as recurring litigation over National Sports Federations (NSFs) elections and athlete selections, lack of a dedicated dispute resolution forum, inadequate athlete representation in federations, gender imbalance in sports leadership, and absence of a uniform electoral process across federations. The introduction of the bill also comes as part of the Centre's broader efforts to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Several other nations have also expressed their interest to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in hosting the event. The bill also comes amid efforts to promote sports among the general public through various initiatives like Khelo India. India also hopes to increase its medal tally in future Olympic games. Notably, according to sources in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the proposed bill will bring the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under its ambit. 'BCCI will come under the ambit of sports bill and all federations will follow the regulations,' a source said. On June 17, Union Minister Mandviya had outlined India's strategy to emerge among the top medal-winning nations at the 2036 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. At a Khelo Bharat Conclave, representatives of the National Sports Federations, Paralympic Committee of India, Indian Olympic Association, institutions, top corporate houses and the who's who of Indian sports administration took part in a day-long brainstorming session aimed at making India a global power by 2047, according to a statement by Sports Authority of India (SAI). The interactive conclave covered several key pillars enshrined in the Khelo Bharat Niti 2025 (sports policy). Among them, critical discussions were held on the importance of good governance and the upcoming Bill that will be tabled in the Monsoon session of Parliament starting July 21. Towards a Viksit Bharat, the sports ministry is focusing on a three-layered structure integrated talent development pyramid starting with schools and converging at the proposed Olympic Training Centres. The government has already outlined a five-year plan (2026-27 to 2030-31) starting with residential sports school involving more than 16500 school goers who will have the opportunity to reach the intermediate level (6500-plus) and then graduate to the elite division that will cater to more than 1300 potential international medal winners. Crystal Palace appeal against Europa League demotion
LONDON: Crystal Palace have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their demotion from the Europa League to the UEFA Conference League. The London club, who won last season's FA Cup, fell foul of UEFA's rules governing multi-club ownership. European football's governing body determined that as of March 1, American businessman John Textor had control or influence in Palace and French club Lyon. It means under UEFA rules they are unable to compete in the same European competition and Lyon held on to the Europa League spot by virtue of their higher league position. Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League, are expected to replace Palace in the second-tier Europa League should the punishment stand. The Court of Arbitration for Sport issued a statement on Tuesday confirming it had received an appeal by Palace and would issue a decision by August 11 at the latest. The CAS confirmed Palace were seeking to take either Forest's or Lyon's place in the Europa League.
