Gulliver's Schnur and Westminster's Vanegas are the Dade Lacrosse Players of the Year

One was already the leading scorer in program history before putting together another big season this year. The other helped her school make history with its first district championship.
As the top players for the top teams in Miami-Dade County, Gulliver Prep's Sebastian Schnur and Westminster Christian's Kiera Vanegas are the Miami Herald's Miami-Dade County Lacrosse Players of the Year.
Schnur followed up a record-setting junior season in Pinecrest with another 100-point season to help Gulliver advance in the region playoffs for the first time since 2019.
The attack led the county with 57 assists and also scored 48 goals to finish with 105 points—no one else in Miami-Dade had more than 82. The senior also had 49 ground balls—the third most on the team—and had four takeaways.
This is Schnur's second straight season as the Herald's Miami-Dade County Boys' Lacrosse Player of the Year after he piled up 130 points as a junior last year.
'Last year, we had 15 seniors graduate so there were a lot of holes to fill,' Schnur said. 'Collectively, our senior group did a great job leading and getting a lot of freshmen and sophomores to play and get to that level we needed.'
Schnur will attend Wake Forest University starting this fall and play lacrosse, which is played there as a club sport.
'I just decided Wake because it's a great location and looks like it'll be a great college experience and a great fit for me,' Schnur said.
Vanegas, a junior, helped the Warriors make history this year by winning a district title for the first time. The midfielder was a do-everything star in the middle of the field for Westminster Christian, which is why she's the girls' Player of the Year. She piled up 62 goals and 23 assists, and also had 99 ground balls, 52 caused turnovers and 63 draw controls.
'It was a record-breaking season and so amazing,' Vanegas said. 'We were really focused on playing together as a family and it worked great in the end.'
The Warriors began their girls' lacrosse program just five years ago and already have become one of the premiere programs in Miami. This year, Westminster Christian was the only team from Dade County to reach the region playoffs.
In the Warriors' district championship, Vanegas was at her best, scoring six goals and handing one assist to help Westminster Christian topple Palmer Trinity.
Although the Warriors bowed out in the first round of the region playoffs, Vanegas will be back next year and Westminster Christian will get a chance to build on a breakthrough season.
'I improved my leadership skills. I struggled with that last year,' Vanegas said. 'I knew I was a strong player on the field, but didn't take that part seriously. I definitely matured this year and definitely loved the team in a much better way this year.'

Steph Curry Posts Exciting New Video Amid Offseason

Steph Curry Posts Exciting New Video Amid Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. By all accounts, Stephen Curry had a disappointing 2024-25 season with the Golden State Warriors. He seemed to be starting to show some signs of wear and tear during the first half of the season, but once six-time All-Star forward Jimmy Butler came to town in a big February trade, he and the entire organization seemed revitalized. Advertisement Unfortunately, Curry injured his hamstring in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Warriors, who were considered by many to be legitimate championship contenders, were put to sleep in five games without the future Hall of Famer. But Curry did have some fun during the season. During All-Star weekend, which was held in the Bay Area, he spent some time with YouTube influencer MrBeast, and he even participated in a 3-point shooting contest with $100,000 for charity at stake. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry with YouTuber Mr. Curry, Instagram MrBeast has over 400 million subscribers on YouTube, which is more than anyone else, and he also has more than 100 million followers on TikTok. In addition to posting some wild challenges on social media, he has become a huge philanthropist who has raised millions of dollars for various worthy causes. For the 10th time in his career, he led the NBA in 3-point makes per game with 4.4. Advertisement One would think the Warriors should be definite title contenders next season when they will have a full training camp with Butler. But they do need an upgrade at the center position and perhaps a little more depth. Bruno Fernandes snubs £200m Al-Hilal offer to stay at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, opting to continue his career in Europe. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester United captain rejected a contract that would have earned him close to £200 million over three years. Advertisement Despite the financial appeal, Fernandes has decided to remain at the top level of European football. Al-Hilal were prepared to pay United around £100 million for the Portugal international, who remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2027. They hoped to make Fernandes a marquee addition ahead of their Club World Cup campaign. The deal was complicated by reluctance from Fernandes' family, who were unconvinced about a move to Saudi Arabia. Despite Al-Hilal's efforts to sway the player, including outlining a project involving Victor Osimhen, Theo Hernandez, and incoming manager Simone Inzaghi, Fernandes' stance did not shift. Advertisement The 30-year-old has had a standout individual campaign, registering 19 goals and 18 assists across all competitions. His performances earned him the club's Player of the Year award for a joint-record fourth time, even as United endured their worst Premier League finish in history, ending the season in 15th place. The club's difficult season has led to speculation about potential sales to balance the books following their failure to qualify for the Champions League. However, new manager Ruben Amorim has publicly backed Fernandes, insisting he believes the player wants to stay. Speaking after United's 3–1 win over Hong Kong in pre-season, Amorim said: 'He is saying no to a lot of things. He needs to be in the best league in the world. Advertisement 'When you talk to him, you have that feeling he wants to continue for sure with Manchester United.' Fernandes' decision will be a relief to fans who fear a fire sale following the club's recent struggles. However, the offer from Al-Hilal reflects a growing trend among Saudi clubs to target top European talent with eye-watering proposals. Fernandes remains at the heart of United's rebuild, but with the summer transfer window still open, the saga may not be entirely over.

Warriors Could Avoid Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade After Major Question Raised

Warriors Could Avoid Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade After Major Question Raised originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Golden State Warriors have an important offseason ahead of them as they try to build around their aging trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green to compete for a championship next season. Advertisement Of course, the Warriors ended the regular season on fire as they climbed to seventh in the Western Conference and then advanced past the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets in the first round. Golden State was then eliminated in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves after they were unable to overcome a hamstring injury suffered by Curry in Game 1. Golden State Warriors stars Jimmy Butler and Steph CurryTroy Taormina-Imagn Images Now the Warriors enter the offseason with some key decisions to make regarding how they want to build around their aging trio to make the roster into a title contender. One route they could go is potentially trading for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo as they have been linked to the two-time MVP winner. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo reacts during the first Penner-Imagn Images Despite this, a recent question was brought up about how adding Giannis could impact the future of the franchise. Advertisement 'What it would take to have Giannis, Steph, Jimmy, and Draymond all on the Warriors, you're talking about a carcass. Those four and 12 Pat Spencers,' Mark Willard said on The Crossover. 'And you'd have no assets for years to come. What if you get Giannis, I guarantee a title next year, however after that you have 12 years of no playoffs. Do you make the trade?' This is an interesting question to ask and also a good one as the Warriors would give up their entire future to potentially land Giannis for a chance at a championship. Of course, a roster headlined by Giannis, Curry, Butler and Green would be a title contender next season but with three of the four players in the final years of their careers and Giannis not likely to stick around after they retire, it would be a major risk for the franchise's future.
