Second unit of YTPS to provide 800 MW more power to State
The second unit of the 5x800 Mega Watt (MW) Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) at Veerlapalem in Nalgonda district, Unit-1 technically, was dedicated to the nation by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday. Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Adluri Laxman Kumar were also present.
Though the unit has been generating power (infirm) since February this year, it was not declared commercially operational officially. It was run experimentally for 72 hours continuously in the second week of July, as required before declaring it fit for commercial operation. There was a minor fire mishap at the unit in April this year.
The Unit-2 of the project was commissioned (operating commercially) in January this year. With the commissioning of Unit-1 on Friday, a total of 1,600 MW capacity of the 4,000 MW project has become commercially operational.
Employees' township
Chairman of the Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy, Principal Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) S. Harish, and directors of the power utility, participated in the commissioning of the unit. They later laid a foundation stone for construction of the employees' township.
Mr. Vikramarka alleged that the negligence of the previous government had resulted in a two-year delay. He announced that the government would provide free education and health facilities to the power plant employees. Jobs, and relief and rehabilitation packages too, would be given to the families displaced by YTPS and Pulichintala irrigation project, which serves Andhra Pradesh.
He stated that the remaining three units of the project would be dedicated to the nation next January. The delay in getting the environmental clearance afresh after changing the coal consumption completely to indigenous from the blend of imported and indigenous coal initially had delayed the commissioning of the project by two years and also resulted in additional financial burden.
'Our government has secured the fresh EC within two months of coming to power and reviewing the project's progress every month by fixing weekly targets,' the Deputy CM said and added that the government would provide all facilities to employees, including educational institutions with international standards and corporate-level healthcare facilities near the township so that employees could stay there without any problems.

An order issued by a local education officer in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—directing that show-cause notices be sent to government school teachers who do not reside in the villages they teach, asking why their House Rent Allowance (HRA) should not be stopped—has once again sparked the debate over whether or not it is important for Zilla Parishad (ZP) school teachers to stay in the same village where they teach. The issue of Zilla Parishad school teachers not staying in the same villages as their schools has long been a matter of debate. Although such a rule exists, many teachers choose to live in nearby towns or villages, often for the convenience of their families or due to the lack of suitable housing in rural areas. Teachers argue that this rule is impractical and has no bearing on the quality of their teaching or professional commitment. The latest order issued on July 30 by Arvind Kapse, a local education officer from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, has drawn much criticism from teachers' community who are questioning the practicality of the condition. While several teachers' associations have raised voice against it, member of Legislative Council J. M. Abhyankar has written to the authorities opposing the order. In his letter dated August 2, to education authorities, MLC Abhyankar from a teachers' constituency stated that the move to stop HRA for non-resident teachers appears to be arbitrary and lacking in proper assessment. He pointed out that employees from other government departments continue to receive HRA regardless of similar commuting arrangements. 'Many teachers commute from nearby areas and still fulfill their academic and extracurricular duties with dedication,' he wrote. 'The belief that only teachers who live in the village are responsible is misleading. Unless there is evidence of negligence, withdrawing HRA is unjustified.' Whereas demanding withdrawal of the order, Jalinder Sarode, secretary of Shikshak Bharati, said, 'This mandate has caused significant dissatisfaction and anger among teachers. No such compulsion is imposed on other government employees. Villages often lack basic facilities like rental housing. The administration should focus on improving the quality of education, not on where a teacher lives.'

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka dubs BRS as a ‘curse' for Telangana, vows to foil conspiracies against Telangana's interests
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has squarely blamed the previous BRS rulers over the Banakacherla project issue, saying the BRS is a curse on Telangana. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of 10,000 metric ton capacity warehouses at Kamalapuram village in Khammam district on Sunday, Mr. Vikramarka said, 'We will foil the Andhra Pradesh government's conspiracies, protect Telangana's interests and secure the State's rightful share of river waters.' Stating that Telangana faced grave injustice in irrigation during the united Andhra Pradesh, he said, 'That is why all sections of society fought and achieved a separate State. Even now, the same kind of conspiracies are being hatched against our State. Everyone must stay alert and effectively counter them.' He criticised the A.P. government accusing it of initiating construction of illegal projects that threaten to dry up agricultural fields in Telangana. It is only because of the strong arguments effectively presented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy in New Delhi that the Banakcherla Project was halted, he said. Launching a scathing attack on BRS, Mr. Vikramarka said the BRS rulers remained mute spectators when the Polavaram project was being constructed. 'They welcomed the A.P. leaders with red carpets and mortgaged the interests of our State,' he charged, accusing the BRS leaders of failing to respond when seven mandals of the erstwhile Khammam district were merged with A.P. through an ordinance. We are correcting the mistakes committed by the BRS rulers during their 10-year rule and making concerted efforts to optimally utilise Krishna and Godavari waters for ensuring irrigation to every acre in Telangana, he asserted.

Uttam Kumar Reddy inaugurates Ramagundam Lift Irrigation Scheme, vows to fight tooth and nail against Banakacherla project
Terming Andhra Pradesh government's proposed Banakacherla irrigation project as 'illegal', Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy vowed to fight tooth and nail against it. He was speaking at a public meeting after inaugurating the Ramagundam Lift Irrigation Scheme at Goliwada village in Anthergaon mandal of Peddapalli district on Sunday. It was built at ₹75 crore to irrigate over 13,000 acres in several villages in Anthergaon mandal and two villages in the neighbouring mandals. Ministers D Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Tummala Nageshwara Rao and others spoke. 'We have complained against the Banakacherla project with the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), the Central Water Commission (CWC) and other statutory bodies. The Central Expert Appraisal Committee has rejected the proposal following our strong objections,' the Irrigation Minister said. 'The proposed Polavaram-Banakacherla link project is against the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act and violates Telangana's rights over river waters.' Mr. Reddy alleged that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) was constructed at a huge cost with the intention of looting public money during the BRS government, resulting in huge drain on the State exchequer. 'Not a single acre was brought under irrigation cover under the KLIP in Manthani constituency where the project is located,' he added. The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) report exposed the serious structural deficiencies in the three barrages of the KLIP. The report pointed out that if water is stored in these barrages, it would lead to the submergence of 44 villages and areas surrounding Bhadrachalam, he said. He announced a sanction of ₹1.1 crore to prepare the Detailed Project Report for the Pathipaka reservoir in Peddapalli district. Later, the ministers handed over new ration cards to eligible beneficiaries at a meeting held in Dharmaram mandal headquarters.
