Music composer A.R. Rahman and the makers of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan have been by Delhi High Court to pay Rs 2 crore in a copyright lawsuit filed by singer Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar.
The court observed that Rahman's song Veera Raja Veera was 'not just inspired but is, in fact, identical' to Shiva Stuti, composed by Dagar.
'In the ultimate analysis, therefore, this court holds that the impugned song is not merely based on or inspired by the suit composition Shiva Stuti but is, in fact, identical to the suit composition with mere change in lyrics. The adding of other elements may have rendered the impugned song more like a modern composition but the basic underlying musical work is identical,' the court said.

'Hence the defendant's composition infringes the complainant's rights in Shiva Stuti. The defendants – Mr Rahman, Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions – shall deposit ₹2 crore with the court and the same shall be kept in a fixed deposit, subject to the final outcome of the lawsuit,' the HC also said as per a PTI report.
AR Rahman, who has been quietly dealing with separation from Saira Banu with dignity, has finally spoken about his personal matter garnering media and public attention. The couple announced their separation in November 2024, which led to several speculations on social media.
'The choice of being in public life is intentional, so everybody gets reviewed. Right from the richest person to even God gets reviewed, so who am I?" Rahman said while talking to Nayandeep Rakshit.
'As long as we stay together and are not conceited or toxic… even those who criticise us — they're all family," he added.
Addressing the trolling around her separation, he shared, 'If I say things about someone's family, someone will say things about mine. And we, as Indians, believe this. Nobody should say unnecessary things because everyone has a sister, a wife, a mother," adding, 'Even when someone says something hurtful, I pray, 'Please God, forgive them and guide them.'"

The advance bookings for the comic caper kicked off a few days ago and here is how the bookings are in India's top multiplex chains, PVRInox and Cinepolis. As of 10 PM on June 4, the film has sold 37,000 tickets. By the end of the day, Housefull 5 is expected to hit 40,000 tickets. With just one day left, the makers are hoping for a massive surge to reach at least 100,000 tickets in these chains. The advance bookings for the Akshay Kumar starrer started on June 1. Initially, the target was to sell 125,000 to 150,000 tickets in PVRInox and Cinepolis. However, the pace has been slower than expected. As of now, the film is aiming for a more realistic 100,000 tickets by Thursday night. This would set the stage for a respectable opening day collection of Rs 20 crore net in India. While Rs 20 crore is a not exactly a bad start, a film of Housefull 5's scale, boasting a Rs 225 crore budget, needs a bigger opening to make waves.
