Teens drag 2 girls into woods, beat them with bat, shave head, steal shoes in New York

India Today25-05-2025

Two girls were savagely beaten by a group of teenagers in Queens' Kissena Park in New York earlier this month. The girls, aged 13 and 16, were ambushed, dragged into the woods, and assaulted with a baseball bat in what one relative described as an 'execution-like' attack, as per a report by the New York Post. The brutal incident unfolded on May 2, around 6 pm, while the girls were playing basketball in the park. A group of older teens — four 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old — reportedly approached the girls and began an argument that quickly escalated into a shocking and relentless assault.advertisementAccording to police and disturbing videos shared online, the group forced the girls into a wooded area where they began beating them with a bat. One of the attackers even used a portable hair clipper to shave part of the 16-year-old's head, while others looked on or recorded the attack, the Post reported.
Footage shows a teen in a black and red hoodie repeatedly striking the 13-year-old as she curled up on the ground, trying to shield herself. He then ripped off her expensive speakers, a pair of limited-edition Air Jordan 4 White Oreos worth over USD 500, and struck her again. At one point, he appeared to remove an article of her clothing as she sat dazed and limp. The attackers fled the scene with the stolen shoes and the older girl's phone, leaving both girls badly bruised, swollen, and traumatised.advertisementOne of the girls reportedly lost consciousness during the nearly two-hour ordeal. A Chinese-language newspaper, World Journal, reported that the older victim was taken to a hospital with large bruises covering her back and a bald patch above her forehead. Her family said she was so shaken she could barely speak afterward.Police confirmed the victims knew their attackers, though the motive remains unclear. While both victims and their alleged attackers are of Asian descent, the incident has not been labelled a hate crime.Authorities are treating the case as a robbery due to the stolen items, but the victims' families are demanding a deeper probe, calling the assault premeditated and barbaric. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has arrested all five suspects. Three 17-year-old boys, a 17-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old boy now face serious charges, including felony robbery, gang assault, assault with a weapon, harassment, strangulation, and grand larceny.

Taiwan charges four with national security violations for alleged spying for China

The four defendants were among five people expelled from Lai's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) – which advocates for Taiwan's sovereignty – last month for suspected espionage read more Security guards stand guard in front of the Presidential Office Building in Taipei, Taiwan. File image/ Reuters Taiwanese prosecutors charged on Tuesday four people, including a former staffer in President Lai Ching-te's office, for violating national security after they allegedly spied for China. The four defendants were among five people expelled from Lai's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) – which advocates for Taiwan's sovereignty – last month for suspected espionage. The fifth person is still under investigation, a prosecutor told AFP. China claims democratic self-ruled Taiwan is part of its territory and has threatened to use force to annex it. Taipei accuses Beijing of using espionage and infiltration to weaken its defences. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The four people have been charged with violating the Classified National Security Information Protection Act and National Security Act after they allegedly shared state secrets with China, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office said in a statement. Other alleged offences include money laundering. The espionage happened over a 'prolonged time', included the sharing of 'important and sensitive diplomatic information' and caused 'significant harm to national security', prosecutors said. Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences ranging from five to more than 18 years, and the confiscation of more than NT$8.3 million (US$277,000) in illicit gains. The heftiest sentence is for a defendant surnamed Huang, who allegedly transmitted information to China 'via a specific messaging app'. Huang previously worked for a New Taipei City councillor, the semi-official Central News Agency (CNA) said. Among the other defendants is a person surnamed Ho, who CNA said is a former aide to National Security Council chief Joseph Wu when he was foreign minister. Huang and Ho have denied the allegations against them, prosecutors said. The other two defendants, including the person who had worked for Lai when he was vice president and then president, have confessed. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Beijing and Taipei have been spying on each other for decades, but experts say the threat to Taiwan is greater given the risk of a Chinese invasion. Taiwan's National Security Bureau said previously 64 people were prosecuted for Chinese espionage last year, compared with 48 in 2023 and 10 in 2022. In 2024, they included 15 veterans and 28 active service members, with prison sentences reaching as high as 20 years.

Justin Baldoni's USD 400 million defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively dismissed by New York Judge

Justin Baldoni has faced a significant setback in his USD 400 million defamation suit case against his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively as a New York Judge has dismissed it after finding that Lively's allegations of sexual assault against Baldoni were legally protected and as a result of it, is immune from his suit. Judge Lewis Liman on Monday dismissed the Clouds director's lawsuit which had also named her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist Leslie Sloan for civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy. But he can amend and refile some allegations regarding interference with contracts. His USD 250 million defamation suit against The New York Times pushing an "unverified and self-serving narrative" was also dismissed citing that the report was protected under "fair report" privilege, which allows media outlets to cover legal proceedings without incurring defamation liability. The legal suit came after Lively filed a complaint in December 2024 with the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) against Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios, accusing them of sexual harassment and intimidation on the set of It Ends with Us. She along with Reynolds also alleged that Baldoni conducted a smear campaign against her for complaining about the conditions on set. Baldoni's lawsuit primarily focussed on Lively "stealing the film" from him and his production house Wayfarer Studios by threatening to not promote it and them promoting a false narrative that the actor sexually assaulted her and launched a smear campaign against her.

Former NFL player Adam 'Pacman' Jones shares arrest footage as agent slams 'overzealous' Kentucky police

Adam 'Pacman' Jones (via Getty Images) Adam 'Pacman' Jones , the former NFL cornerback and West Virginia University standout, has released a video showing his recent arrest by police officers in Covington, Kentucky. The footage, captured outside a bar near Cincinnati, has sparked fresh controversy, with Adam Jones' agent calling the officers' actions an example of 'overzealous policing. ' Adam Jones was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public space, second-degree disorderly conduct, and third-degree assault of a police officer. Video adds new layer to Adam Jones' arrest; agent claims rights were violated In the newly released video, which surfaced through TMZ Sports, Adam Jones, who was involved in a disturbance in a local bar, is seen interacting tensely with two Covington officers before being restrained against a police vehicle. The authorities alleged Adam Jones was drunk and acting in a disorderly manner. He was booked into the Kenton County Detention Center after his arrest. But things changed dramatically after Adam Jones released what seems like surveillance footage showing one officer roughly grabbing him, which has now led to a question about the use of force during the arrest. Jones' representative, Peter Schaffer, issued a forceful statement after the incident, asserting that his client was simply exercising his constitutional right to ask why he was being held in custody. Former WVU player Adam 'Pacman' Jones arrested outside of Cincinnati This recent incident is at least the fourth arrest of Jones since 2021. He was previously arrested for the first time at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2023 and again following the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing bout in Las Vegas in November of 2024, both of which were also for offenses involving alcohol and public conduct. Jones, who last played in the NFL in 2018, spent most of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans and playing briefly with the Dallas Cowboys. His post-NFL years have been marred by multiple run-ins with law enforcement, many of which have ended with charges that were later dropped or reduced. Also read: Adam 'Pacman' Jones arrested for assault on a police officer, alcohol intoxication, and disorderly conduct Even as questions have swirled about the behavior of both Adam "Pacman" Jones and Covington police, debates over policing and citizen rights have persisted. The footage that came out may prove key to public opinion-and perhaps in legal proceedings themselves.
