What else can you expect from a guy whose team name is Smash GC?
During a frustrating first round at the 2025 LIV Golf Dallas event, and seconds after hitting a drive he didn't like on the ninth hole, Brooks Koepka slammed his club on the ground and then smashed a tee box marker, sending it flying.
He was 6 over at the time, but would bogey the ninth, 10th and 13th before withdrawing after the 14th hole at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
Koepka has two top-10s, including a solo second in March 2025. He won twice last season and was the first LIV golfer to reach five wins on the three-year-old circuit.
This is the ninth of 14 events for LIV Golf in 2025.

Brooks Koepka withdraws from LIV Golf event after tee-box mashing meltdown

It was a wild turn of events for Brooks Koepka. Koepka stormed out of the first round at the LIV Golf Dallas tournament on Friday after smashing a tee box marker in visible frustration and then withdrawing due to illness. The five-time major champion opened the day poorly, carding triple bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes at Maridoe Golf Club and standing 6-over par by the front nine. Advertisement And that seemingly angered him. His boiling point came on the ninth hole after an errant drive where Koepka angrily slammed his club into the ground and then struck the tee box marker that flew toward the crowd, though it appeared that no one was hurt. Advertisement Following that outburst, Koepka continued to struggle, bogeying the 10th and 13th holes. He ultimately withdrew from the tournament during the 14th hole, citing an apparent illness. Getty Images LIV Golf announced that Luis Carrera would replace him in the Smash GC team, and noted that while Koepka's individual score would not count, he could still return to contribute late this weekend if he chooses to. Advertisement Koepka later acknowledged that the past few months had been difficult. He previously missed cuts at both the Masters and PGA Championship and has now gone nine consecutive majors without a top-10 finish. 'From the first weekend in April until about [the beginning of June], you didn't want to be around me,' Koepka said earlier this month. 'It drove me nuts. It ate at me. I haven't been happy. It's been very irritating.' Advertisement Brooks Koepka of the United States reacts during the third round of the 125th U.S. OPEN at Oakmont Country Club on June 14, 2025 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. Koepka, who turned 35 in May, reached three years competing on the LIV Golf circuit this month.

LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka destroys tee marker with driver after wayward shot

LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka plays for Smash GC, and on Friday during the first round of LIV Dallas, Koepka took his team's name to heart. Koepka, 35, hit a wayward drive on the ninth hole. Immediately after he saw the flight of the ball, the five-time major winner smashed his club. After slamming his club, he took a swing at the tee marker and destroyed it. The five-time major champion struggled during the first round and was six over par after eight holes before he withdrew with an illness, according to LIV Golf communications. He was replaced by a reserve player, Luis Carrera. Koepka would be allowed to return this weekend, but his contributions would count strictly for this team's score. Koepka played better at the U.S. Open earlier this month than he did at LIV Dallas Friday. He tied for 12th at the U.S. Open as he finished six-over par for the tournament. Koepka won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018. The LIV Golf star has had success in the major championships, winning the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2023, in addition to his U.S. Open victories. Koepka had nine career wins on the PGA Tour before he defected to LIV in June 2022. According to the PGA Tour website, Koepka made nearly $44 million from the 186 events he participated in on the tour. Last season, Koepka won twice and became the first LIV golfer to win five times since the inception of the upstart golf league. Harold Varner III of the 4Aces GC was in the lead after the first round at LIV Dallas. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
