'It was mind-blowing': Jamie Lee Curtis cherished getting to sit in the front row at the Oscars
The 66-year-old star took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2023 for her part in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once and recalled how the most exciting part of the ceremony was when she and her co-stars found out they would be sitting in prime position for the show.
Jamie told AARP The Magazine: "As soon as Ke (Huy Quan) and Steph Hsu and Michelle Yeoh came and sat in the same row, I literally walked up to each one of them and I went, 'Ke, where are we?' And he said, 'We're at the Oscars.' 'And where are you sitting?' And he said, 'In the front row.'
"(They) never, ever, ever thought that they would be sitting in the front row at the Academy Awards as nominees. That moment for me was the whole thing. It was mind-blowing. And still is."
Jamie is the daughter of actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis and felt that her Oscars triumph was even more special as she had first-hand experience of the negative side of the industry.
The Halloween actress said: "I was raised in show business, a business that is ageist, misogynist and pigeonholing.
"I've watched the sad reality when show business no longer wants you. I watched it with my parents, who went from the height of their intense fame to nobody wanting them anymore."
Jamie's latest movie is the body-swap sequel Freakier Friday with Lindsay Lohan and she credits her "constant curiosity" for allowing her acting career to flourish in her 60s.
She said: "I am more alive today than I was when I was 37 years old. Or 47. Or 57. Way more alive."
Jamie revealed recently that she isn't particularly picky about her career choices as she simply adores working in the movie industry.
The True Lies star said: "I pretty much do the work that comes to me … I love my life.
"I just love the fact that I get to be me, that I get to do what I do, that I get to do art and be a part of the art form that I get to be part of - entertainment. I love the combo platter of show business. I'm a marketing guru. I love marketing. And I just love the process of living a creating life. So I got no complaints."

It annoys my husband sometimes. He's like, 'You have to see the real s***.' I don't have to, though! I'm going to think of the positive side." Jamie, meanwhile, feels like she can "trust" her younger co-star. The veteran film star said: "I know I can trust her. I can't say that about a lot of people. "I do know that if I tell her something, it's gonna stay with her. We've both been through hard things, 'cause we're alive and life is hard. And we're not dead yet. Jamie Lee Curtis considers herself to be a "controlled addict". The 66-year-old actress is a recovering alcoholic, but Jamie insists that she's always retained some degree of control over her life, even when she was at her lowest ebb. The Hollywood star told the Guardian newspaper: "I am a controlled addict. "In recovery we talk about how, in order to start recovering, you have to hit what you call a 'bottom'. You have to crash and burn, lose yourself and your family and your job and your resources in order to know that the way you were living didn't work. I refer to myself as an Everest bottom; I am the highest bottom I know. "When I acknowledged my lack of control, I was in a very controlled state. I lost none of the external aspects of my life. "The only thing I had lost was my own sense of myself and self-esteem." Asked whether her success disguised the seriousness of her addiction troubles, Jamie replied: "There's no one way to be an addict or an alcoholic. People hide things – I was lucky, and I am ambitious, and so I never let that self-medication get in the way of my ambition or work or creativity. It never bled through. No one would ever have said that had been an issue for me." Jamie admits that her addiction caused a lot of damage to herself and the people around her. However, the actress insists that she's moved on from that period of her life, describing herself as "an old lady now". She said: "The external costs are awful for people; but the internal costs are more sinister and deadly, because to understand that you are powerless over something other than your own mind and creativity is something. But that was a long time ago. I'm an old lady now." In February, Jamie took to social media to celebrate 26 years of sobriety. She wrote on Instagram at the time: "26 years ago today I walked into my first recovery meeting. Since then, my life has completely changed. I have made beautiful, beautiful, friendships and it has expanded my life beyond recovery and it has given me the family life and creative life. I never thought possible."

The K's frontman Jamie Boyle believes that the Oasis reunion has saved guitar music. The indie rocker feels that the long-awaited return of the Live Forever band has reignited the scene and has led to a "resurgence" for bands. Jamie told the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column: "The resurgence of bands is really, really strong and prominent at the minute. "We see it ourselves, in ticket sales, the support at gigs, and the buzz whenever we announce something to our ever-growing fan base. People are genuinely chomping at the bit to get into venues and watch bands again." The K's were able to see Oasis as they started their reunion tour in Cardiff and will also be in attendance for one of Noel and Liam Gallagher's gigs at Wembley Jamie said: "We went to Cardiff and were like, 'This is amazing'. Then Heaton Park was even better and we're heading to Wembley too. "It's impossible to ignore the buzz that's been created for guitar music and it's no secret that they're one of the best to ever do it, but the buzz that Oasis has created not just for themselves but for everybody is real. "All the excitement, all the press, all everything is back on guitar for the first time in a long time." Boyle explained that he has been watching the Gallagher brothers closely as he seeks inspiration from the pair's stage presence. The musician said: "There's 80,000 people there and every single one of them is just stood not being able to take their eyes off them on stage. "To get to that level is what everybody dreams about." He told "I'm constantly listening to new stuff and always exploring new genres and things like that. And I think one thing that surprises people is if you look at my playlist, I think people would be very surprised, because it goes from The Beatles, like '60s Beatles, through to like, '70s, '80s, punk, and then all the way through to like, like modern day pop music, like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, people like this. "People are far too quick to put themselves into one box, or one genre, and just be like, No, that's what I like. Everything else is s***. And it's like, if you actually sit down and listen to stuff, I think, like, if you give it the time, you may end up finding something you like in it."
