Green Bay Packers legend LeRoy Butler tackles student hunger at 'Taste of the Draft'
This week, Touchdown Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Pro Football Hall of Famer and Green Bay Packers legend LeRoy Butler about his involvement in Taste of the Draft and youth mentorship in Wisconsin.
Fellow Packers greats will join Butler on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM CT at Schreiber Food Headquarters, 400 N. Washington Street, Green Bay, Wisconsin. The event will feature musical entertainment, a sleight-of-hand magician, a silent auction, and appearances by Miss America and Miss Wisconsin.
"I'm one of those kids who rely upon strangers to raise money so I can have an amazing meal. Sometimes, when you're in extreme poverty, as I grew up, a school meal is probably your best one," said Butler as the event proceeds to support GENYOUth's commitment to end student hunger and tackle youth food insecurity in Wisconsin. "So, events like this give me hope that kids will one day grow up to be just like me. However, you're in poverty, and you can't afford some of the other food people have, but having an event like this, where two things can be true: you can raise money for a great organization and do some of the great things, and you help people who you don't know that's what's so rewarding. Again, a kid like me—my mom raised five kids by herself—didn't eat breakfast, didn't have breakfast at home, which other kids did, but when we got to school, they had programs like this to go to the cafeteria and eat breakfast."
Top chefs, twenty legendary supper clubs, and Green Bay icons will raise funds for nutrition grants for 90 schools throughout Wisconsin to celebrate the NFL Draft's 90th anniversary.
"A lot of kids don't even eat breakfast. I couldn't afford it, but the other kids who had money could buy hot stuff, like corn dogs or pizza," said Butler, "But for me, it didn't matter because nutrition is essential. So I am overjoyed now; it reminded me of my hero, my mom, when she used to tell us going to school, we don't have time to get in trouble and break the law because you're wasting time because some stranger is donating money to the food pantry or an event like 'Taste of the Draft.'"
The 2022 Pro Football Hall of Famer, who played 12 seasons with the Packers, understands the importance of giving back to the Wisconsin community and connecting with the many children who lack resources.
"It means a lot to me. I get very emotional about it, so being a part of it is almost like paying respect back to some of the young men and women who are out there all the time helping and just to let them know as well." said Butler, "Yes, you're a Hall of Famer, but I didn't think he was in poverty. I didn't know if he got a free lunch like me. I didn't think he had a single parent like me. So that's why it's very important for me."
GENYOUth will host a Rally for Student Health and Well-being at Valley View Elementary School, located at 2200 True Lane, Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, April 22nd, at 9:00 AM CT. The rally will unveil our new, state-of-the-art school meal equipment, increasing access to healthy nutrition. An NFL FLAG-In-School Kit Unboxing and Flag Football Clinic will also be held. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers Can Make NFL History with Week 8 Win

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers Can Make NFL History with Week 8 Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NFL scheduling Gods smiled on us and we didn't even know it. When the 2025 NFL schedule came out, we all noticed the Week 1 matchup with the New York Jets. Advertisement That, of course, will pit Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields against their old teams. We call that revenge week for each quarterback. But that's not the most interesting matchup on the calendar next year. That will come in Week 8 when Rodgers faces his old team, the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium, on Sunday Night Football. With a win, Rodgers will become just the fifth quarterback ever to beat all 32 teams. He'll join Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees. That's pretty good company, but we already know Rodgers' resume. The achievement will ultimately be just a footnote on his Hall of Fame resume. Advertisement In what could be his last season under center, he'll have the unique opportunity to beat both his former teams. And while we have no idea how the Pittsburgh 2025 season will go, those might be two of the biggest highlight games for the Steelers. Some pundits have the Steelers poised for a Super Bowl run in 2025. To others, it could mean more of the same. Another disappointing end to the postseason, or worse, no playoff appearance at all. Inside the NFL's Mina Kimes believes even with the addition of Rodgers, there are still questions on offense, namely, the rushing attack. 'None of this will work, even if Rogers does buy in, which I'm skeptical of. None of it will work, regardless of what the offense looks like, if they can't run the football better than they did last year. And that's something that they've invested in,' Kimes said. Advertisement Rodgers, who turns 42 in December, led the Jets to a 5-12 mark in his only full season in New York. Don't forget (Jets fans won't) that he missed all but four plays of the 2023 campaign after rupturing his Achilles on the first drive of the first game after joining the team two offseasons ago. Last season should be one to forget for Rodgers. He finished below the league average in passer rating - a stat of which he's the all-time career leader, and 31st in the league in QBR - behind names like Aidan O'Connell and Kirk Cousins. Packers QB Jordan Love Generating Buzz Ahead of 2025 Season

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entering last season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was expected to have a big-time year. After showing superstar flashes during his first season as the team's starter following the Aaron Rodgers trade, the sky was the limit for Love. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in Week 1 that forced him to miss a couple of games. He never took the leap that had been expected from him after that. Despite the lower production from Love, the Packers took a step forward as a team. They improved from a 9-8 record in 2023 to 11-6 in 2024. Now, the team is hoping to see him take his personal game to another level. Photo byThroughout the course of the 2024 NFL season, Love played in 15 games. He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Those aren't bad numbers, but they weren't a step in the right direction. Read more: Packers Attempted to Make Intriguing Wide Receiver Trade: Report Heading into the 2025 season, Love has now received some major hype. One NFL analyst believes he's an under-the-radar MVP candidate. That analyst is none other than Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report. "Is it doable? The long-awaited addition of a first-round pick at receiver should help as Matthew Golden joins the fray in 2025. After all, only Daniel Jones saw his receivers drop passes more frequently than Love last year. And it's important to remember this guy has just two full seasons as a starter under his belt," Gagnon wrote. "There's plenty of room for Love to grow, and the support could be there now for a quarterback who posted a 105.7 passer rating on deep attempts last year." Love taking a jump and becoming a legitimate MVP candidate would do wonders for Green Bay's offense. He has the weapons to produce a much bigger season than he did last year. Read more: Packers' Jordan Love Speaks Out After Aaron Rodgers Signs With Steelers As of right now, the Packers have Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, and Dontayvion Wicks healthy in the wide receiver room. Christian Watson is doing well in his recovery from a torn ACL as well. More than likely, the team won't be carrying all of those wide receivers into the 2025 season, but they have an incredibly talented and young group for Love to work with. Add in Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave at tight end and it gets more interesting. Green Bay has put together a roster that should make them a serious contender in the NFC once again. If Love can take the next step and play at an MVP level all season long, the Packers will have a shot to win another Super Bowl.
