Auburn football included in four-star LB Anthony Davis' top five schools
Auburn football included in four-star LB Anthony Davis' top five schools Auburn is one of the top candidates to land a talented linebacker from talent-rich Georgia. A linebacker from talent-rich Georgia has included Auburn in his top-five schools ahead of his planned Summer commitment. Anthony Davis, a four-star linebacker from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, recently dropped his top-five choices, with Auburn joining Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, and Michigan. Davis visited Auburn last weekend and will visit Ole Miss, Michigan, and Alabama before June ends. In a recent interview with On3, Davis shared his thoughts regarding Auburn and its in-state rival, Alabama. Davis says that both programs have great qualities that are attractive as his recruitment winds down. 'Auburn and Alabama are great schools and I really like the coaches at both schools," Davis said. "I have been to Auburn a lot and I feel comfortable there. Alabama has really impressed me when I have visited there.' Two linebackers have committed to Auburn so far this cycle: Shadarius Toodle and Jamichael Garrett, and four defensive players total in its No. 36-ranked class. Summer recruiting is heating up and expect Auburn to land several key targets ahead of this season. Davis is the No. 17 linebacker in the 2026 class according to On3's Industry Rating, and ranks as high as No. 25 among Georgia recruits. Auburn to the College Football Playoffs? CBS Sports makes a bold prediction
Auburn to the College Football Playoffs? CBS Sports makes a bold prediction CBS Sports believes that the Auburn Tigers will finally make their College Football Playoff debut in 2025. The expansion of the College Football Playoff gives more teams a shot at competing for a national championship. Will this be the year that the Auburn Tigers make their way into the 12-team field? CBS Sports shared their list of teams that are poised to make their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance in 2025, and the Auburn Tigers are one of them. Carter Bahns of CBS Sports believes that Hugh Freeze addressed a critical need in the transfer portal, which could be the missing piece that the team needed to get over the hump. Auburn pushed a lot of chips forward this offseason. The most notable investment came at the quarterback spot where Hugh Freeze, at long last, dipped into the portal. Jackson Arnold is a prime candidate for a post-hype explosion considering injuries ravaged his supporting cast last year at Oklahoma and that the Tigers set him up for success with loads of receiving talent. It is incumbent upon Auburn to get significantly better play from its signal-caller after a couple of rough years to open a largely disappointing Freeze era. If Arnold delivers, this team is a dark-horse playoff contender. Last season was a great year for the College Football Playoff to expand from four teams to 12, as Penn State, Arizona State, Boise State, SMU, Indiana, and Tennessee each competed in the playoff for the first time in their program's history. The SEC will be a key conference to watch this season as Ole Miss, South Carolina, Florida, and Texas A&M join Auburn as teams that CBS has on its radar for first-time participants. Louisville, Illinois, and Miami are also in a great position to make their first appearance while several American Athletic Conference squads could crash the party as non-power conference candidates. Should Auburn make the College Football Playoff this season, it will be the seventh SEC team to appear in the playoff, joining the likes of Tennessee, LSU, and Texas. Alabama leads the conference with eight appearances, with Georgia and Oklahoma following suit with four. LIV signs one of golf's top young stars: When will Josele Ballester debut?
LIV signs one of golf's top young stars: When will Josele Ballester debut? Show Caption Hide Caption Scottie Scheffler wins Memorial at course he once watched as a fan From fan to champion, Scottie Scheffler wins the Memorial on a course he once dreamed of playing. PGA TOUR The Arizona State-to-LIV Golf pipeline has another addition. Josele Ballester, the 21-year-old reigning U.S. Amateur champion who finished his college career with the Sun Devils last week, has signed with LIV Golf and will join Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC at 2025 LIV Golf Virginia, which begins Friday. Ballester and LIV Golf have been connected for some time, dating to before his U.S. Amateur triumph last summer at Hazeltine National in Minnesota. With his amateur career in the rearview, he's turning pro and joining LIV Golf, arguably a bigger signing than any the league had in the offseason. "First and foremost, I want to thank my family, coaches, friends, and Arizona State University for supporting me and believing in me to make it to this step of my career,' Ballester said in a release. 'I am very excited about the opportunity to join Fireballs GC and continue to learn from Sergio and other greats.' GOLFWEEK: All the latest news from around the world Ballester is the latest in a long line of Sun Devils to compete for LIV Golf, including new teammate David Puig, who also joined LIV Golf following a stellar amateur career. Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Paul Casey and Matt Jones are other LIV players who played collegiately at Arizona State. He'll replace fellow Spaniard Luis Masaveu on the Fireballs' roster. Masaveu, who made the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur last year and is good friends with Ballester, will compete this week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in place of Puig, who is sidelined with an injury. Ballester won one time as a senior, taking medalist honors at the Fighting Illini Invitational in the fall. He helped Arizona State finish first after the stroke-play portion of the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa last week, though the Sun Devils fell in the quarterfinals of match play. He finished he season ranked fifth in the NCAA golf rankings, placing T-4 at NCAAs and adding a pair of top-10 finishes in the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Bremerton Regional. Ballester finished third in the PGA Tour University Class of 2025 standings, earning a Korn Ferry Tour card in the process. By signing with LIV Golf, he forfeits that card, and everyone else gets bumped up a spot in the standings. Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon is the biggest benefactor, moving from sixth to fifth and earning full Korn Ferry Tour status for the remainder of the year and an exemption into the final stage of PGA Tour Q-School. He played in three PGA Tour events this season, finishing T-17 in the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld and missing the cut at the WM Phoenix Open and Masters, where he made headlines after urinating in Rae's Creek on the 13th hole, Azalea. He would end up missing the cut at Augusta National Golf Club. Ballester will tee it up next week at Oakmont in the 2025 U.S. Open, as he doesn't have to remain an amateur to use the exemption he earned for winning the U.S. Amateur. But this week, he makes his professional debut for LIV Golf.
