Drive fall in pitchers duel
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — The Greenville Drive were shut out for just the fourth time this season on Friday night, falling 1-0 to the Hudson Valley Renegades at Heritage Financial Park. Despite a strong start from left-hander Blake Aita, the Drive managed only two hits and were undone by a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that proved to be the game-winner. With the result, the six-game series is tied 2-2.
Aita (0-1), making just his second start of the season, was excellent over six innings, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out six. But the offense offered no support. Greenville struck out 12 times and failed to move a runner past third base, with their best chance to score coming in the seventh inning when Yophery Rodriguez and Justin Riemer reached, only for Hudson White to strike out looking to end the threat.
The game's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Moylan led off with a double to left, moved to third on a flyout, and then scored on Tomas Frick's sacrifice fly to center. That was all the offense either side could muster in a game dominated by pitching.
Renegades starter Ben Shields went three shutout innings before handing the ball to Hueston Morrill and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (4-2), who worked the final five innings to pick up the win. Rodriguez-Cruz struck out eight and scattered two hits to seal the one-run victory.
Rodriguez and Riemer had Greenville's only hits. Antonio Anderson reached base twice, via walk and hit-by-pitch, but the Drive hit into two double plays and left six men on base overall.
Greenville (32-29) will look to bounce back on Saturday night and retake the series lead. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. from Heritage Financial Park.

The Norwegian will take his bogey and RUN to the second hole if that's all the damage done. He was -2 when he hit the turn and he has just birdied the big par-five 12th to claw back another shot, moving to +1 for the tournament. Very few have played the hole better this week. His drive split the fairway and then he reached the green with his second shot, an absolute belter of an approach considering he was still over 300 yards back. That's his 14th bogey of the tournament. Scheffler is at 1 over for the day and 5 over for the tournament. He's really in the danger zone of being out of the hunt. Detry was right near the top of the leaderboard for much of yesterday's second round, until a truly horrible finish saw him make three double bogeys on the last five holes. But the Belgian is already back to +1 and only trails Sam Burns by four. (I still think it's a truly horrific glove, however.) Less fortunate for Koepka is the fact the pin is placed in the middle of the green today, which will make his approach shot more tricky than it would have been Thursday or Friday. Brooks Koepka's putter might have cooled off a bit yesterday, but he will start his round today just five shots off the pace. In Round 1, despite missing seven greens in regulation, Koepka was able to successfully get up and down five times. Friday, he was just 2-for-9 scrambling, leading to a round with eight bogeys. Imagn Images Scottie Scheffler was left off the tee in a bunker on No. 7 and had to pitch out into the fairway on his second shot. But he hit a beautiful third shot and made the par putt. Scheffler heads to the difficult eighth and ninth. Two pars there would be certainly appreciated. Getty Images Englishman Matt Wallace is currently -3 for the day, without a single bogey on his scorecard. That means he's +3 for the tournament with five holes left to play today. Wallace has one PGA Tour victory on his record, at the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic in 2023. His best finish at a major came four years before that, when he enjoyed a share of third at the PGA Championship. But if he can maybe make another birdie or two before heading to the clubhouse he could well find himself in the mix tomorrow.

Honkers bats go quiet as team loses eighth straight game
Jun. 14—DULUTH — The Rochester Honkers pitching was solid, but the bats didn't follow on Saturday afternoon. The Duluth Huskies scratched out a 4-1 Northwoods League victory in front of 677 fans at Wade Stadium, sending the Honkers to their eighth consecutive loss. Advertisement Honkers starter Ethan Dillinger put together a quality start, throwing went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with four walks and four strikeouts. Jacob Tostado pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Rochester (5-14) couldn't touch Duluth's pitchers, though. The Honkers managed just one run and two hits in the loss. Shortstop Allan Camarillo had both of Rochester's hits, while Kennedy Hara had an RBI. Rochester closes its two-game series at Duluth at 3:05 p.m. Sunday. Nate Tomlinson added to CU basketball coaching staff
Say what you want about Tad Boyle, but he is loyal. Sometimes to a fault. After a disastrous first season back in the Big 12, the Colorado Buffaloes are running it back for the most part, with some changes. One of those changes is on staff. Nate Tomlinson, who was on staff in prior seasons, and on the team under Tad Boyle even before that, has rejoined the staff as an assistant coach. Advertisement Tomlinson was on staff as the director player development from 2019-2021, in the prime McKinley Wright era. He was on staff with Kim English, who then took the head coaching job at Providence College. Tomlinson followed him there, where he cut his teeth enough to come back to Boulder as an assistant coach. Prior to coaching at all, Tomlinson played basketball at the University of Colorado from 2008 - 2012. He was one of the players that stuck around from the Jeff Bzdelik era and helped Tad Boyle win a Pac-12 conference championship in the first year of the full conference (thank you also to Andre Roberson). Tomlinson is the second former Boyle player to join staff, with Evan Battey also on the bench as an assistant coach. This really isn't that surprising, given that Tomlinson and Battey were both fan favorites in their time as players at The Keg. Welcome back once again, Nate! More from
