Minor Lines 8/7: Kyle Harrison throws a gem

Worcester Red Sox 2, Buffalo Bisons 1 (BOX) Kyle Harrison had his best outing as a member of the Woo Sox on Thursday afternoon, firing five shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking three, and striking out seven. He left with a 1-0 lead but ultimately received a no-decision. Harrison's fastball averaged 93.9 mph and topped out at 96. He threw the fastball 48% of the time, slurve 26%, slider 18%, and change-up 7%. Ian Cundall was impressed with the fastball but referenced issues with command and an inability to put away some hitters. As a result, Harrison threw 99 pitches over those five innings. Tyler Uberstine worked four innings in relief to get the game to the finish line, gaining the win. He struck out eight. Worcester went ahead early with an RBI walk from Nick Sogard. After Buffalo (TOR) tied it with a home run in the top of the eighth inning, Worcester answered with a game-winning home run from Nate Eaton in the bottom of the eighth. Kristian Campbell's 15-game hitting streak came to an end, going 0-for-4. Tyler McDonough had two hits and a run. Recently promoted Connelly Early will get his first Worcester start against CJ Van Eyk at 6:45 this evening. Harrisburg Senators 5, Portland Sea Dogs 4 (BOX) John Holobetz battled through a tough four-run third inning to get through six on Thursday against Harrisburg (WAS). The Sea Dogs battled back from that 4-0 deficit throughout the game, eventually tying it in the top of the ninth with an RBI single from Ahbram Liendo, part of a two-RBI day. However, in the bottom of the ninth, Maxwell Romero Jr. singled off Jorge Juan for a walkoff win. Liendo, Brooks Brannon, and Tyler Miller all contributed two hits for Portland. The Sea Dogs have not announced a starter for tonight at 7:00 ET against Thomas Schultz. Greenville Drive 7, Rome Emperors 3 (Game 1) BOX Rome Emperors 3, Greenville Drive 2 (Game 2) BOX The bats were hot throughout the seven-inning Game One for the Drive on Thursday. They scored seven runs on eight hits, with the key blast being a two-run shot off the bat of catcher Johanfran Garcia in the sixth. If a nine-inning game requires five innings for a win, shouldn't a seven-inning game require just four? Luis Cohen (no relation to Seth) threw four shutout innings, but the win went to Adam Smith who allowed three runs over the final three innings. In Game Two, a makeup from June, the Emperors (ATL) salvaged a split, 3-2, despite a two-home run effort from first baseman Albert Feliz, his fifth and sixth home runs of the season. Devin Futrell allowed just one earned run over 4 1/3 innings but suffered the loss. Greenville has not announced a starter at 6:45 tonight against Herick Hernandez. Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6, Salem Red Sox 3 (Game 1) BOX Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 2, Salem Red Sox 1 (Game 2) BOX After Wednesday's rainout, Salem got swept in Thursday's doubleheader. With six games to write up today, Salem gets the short end of the stick from me as a punishment for getting swept. Gerardo Rodriguez homered in Game One, Kleyver Salazar homered in Game Two, and Adam Bates pitched well over 4 2/3 innings in the second game. Yhoiker Fajardo (1-3, 3.56) gets the ball at 6:35 tonight vs. TBD.

Drive fall in pitchers duel

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — The Greenville Drive were shut out for just the fourth time this season on Friday night, falling 1-0 to the Hudson Valley Renegades at Heritage Financial Park. Despite a strong start from left-hander Blake Aita, the Drive managed only two hits and were undone by a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that proved to be the game-winner. With the result, the six-game series is tied 2-2. Aita (0-1), making just his second start of the season, was excellent over six innings, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out six. But the offense offered no support. Greenville struck out 12 times and failed to move a runner past third base, with their best chance to score coming in the seventh inning when Yophery Rodriguez and Justin Riemer reached, only for Hudson White to strike out looking to end the threat. The game's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Moylan led off with a double to left, moved to third on a flyout, and then scored on Tomas Frick's sacrifice fly to center. That was all the offense either side could muster in a game dominated by pitching. Renegades starter Ben Shields went three shutout innings before handing the ball to Hueston Morrill and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (4-2), who worked the final five innings to pick up the win. Rodriguez-Cruz struck out eight and scattered two hits to seal the one-run victory. Rodriguez and Riemer had Greenville's only hits. Antonio Anderson reached base twice, via walk and hit-by-pitch, but the Drive hit into two double plays and left six men on base overall. Greenville (32-29) will look to bounce back on Saturday night and retake the series lead. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. from Heritage Financial Park. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Arias homers to lead Drive past Emperors, 7-2

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Greenville Drive) — Franklin Arias homered and drove in two runs while Eduardo Rivera struck out eight over 5 2/3 strong innings as the Greenville Drive rolled past the Rome Emperors 7–2 on Sunday afternoon at Fluor Field, taking the six-game series five games to one. A four-run third inning and a three-run sixth provided more than enough offense for the Drive (30–27), who capped off a dominant week and climbed three games over .500. Rome (27–30) was held to just one hit in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Rivera (3–1) turned in another sharp outing, scattering six hits and allowing just one run — a solo homer by E.J. Exposito in the sixth — while striking out eight and walking one. Erik Rivera and Darvin Garcia combined for 3 1/3 innings of relief to close out the win. Arias finished 2-for-5 and launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, part of a three-hit inning that helped Greenville pull away. Yophery Rodriguez added two hits, including a double and a stolen base, while Freili Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Drive broke open a scoreless tie in the third after Rodriguez and Nelly Taylor reached base to set the table. Antonio Anderson singled, and Nazzan Zanetello followed with an RBI knock to left that plated two. A throwing error by Rome left fielder Jace Grady allowed a third run to score, and Brooks Brannon added a fourth on a fielder's choice that was mishandled by shortstop Lizandro Espinoza. Rome starter Cedric De Grandpre (1–1) took the loss, charged with four runs — three earned — over three innings. He struggled with command, walking three and allowing four hits in his 69-pitch outing. After Exposito's solo shot in the sixth, Greenville responded quickly. Brannon led off the home half with a single, and Encarnacion followed with a double to left. Justin Riemer's sacrifice fly brought home Brannon before Arias connected on a two-run blast down the right-field line off Rome reliever Samuel Strickland to make it 7–1. Exposito, the lone bright spot offensively for Rome, went 3-for-4 and accounted for both runs — adding an RBI single in the eighth. But the rest of the Emperors lineup struggled to solve Greenville's pitching, striking out 12 times. The Drive out-hit Rome 10–7 and took advantage of three defensive errors by the Emperors, two of which led directly to early runs. Greenville finished the series having outscored Rome 33–14 over the six-game stretch. The Drive return to action Tuesday as they hit the road to face the Hudson Valley Renegades for a six-game series. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Drive's Brannon earns national honor

— The Greenville Drive are proud to announce that catcher and first baseman Brooks Brannon has been named the Minor League Baseball High-A Player of the Week, following a dominant offensive performance that highlighted his all-around impact at the plate. Brannon posted a remarkable .524 batting average (11-for-21) over the week, collecting 9 runs scored, 8 RBIs, and 22 total bases. His extra-base output included 3 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs, resulting in an impressive 1.048 slugging percentage and a 1.572 OPS. Brannon did not draw a walk or get hit by a pitch, but he also limited his strikeouts to just three in 21 plate appearances, underscoring his disciplined approach and ability to make consistent contact. Against Jersey Shore, Brannon appeared in five of the six games and played a pivotal role in several key moments in the series. He opened the series with a multi-hit game, including a two-run single that set the tone for the Drive's offensive momentum. He followed that with a pair of towering home run in Friday night's matchup and capped off the weekend with a team-high eight runs batted in; driving in at least one run in each of the first four games he appeared in. Brannon's production was instrumental in helping Greenville secure multiple victories during the homestand. Brannon, a 2022, 9th Round draft selection by the Boston Red Sox, continues to make significant strides in his development, showcasing both offensive maturity and positional versatility. This recognition marks a key milestone in his 2025 campaign and further solidifies his standing as a promising young talent in the Red Sox minor league system. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
