Man who 'kidnapped girlfriend, shackled her in shed and sexually abused her for two weeks' RELEASED from jail
Timothy Wood, 36, was arrested on July 2 after his girlfriend appeared at a neighbor's home covered in cuts and bruises, police said.
She told investigators she had been held captive, beaten with an electrical chord and even stuffed into a crawl space for two days.
The alleged victim said she managed to escape after two weeks by fleeing through an unlocked door.
The Phoenix Police Department responded to a 911 call from the neighbor and arrested Wood for aggravated assault, sexual assault, felony kidnapping, and unlawful imprisonment.
But he has since been released from jail after the Maricopa County Attorney's Office requested that police obtain additional evidence.
The woman spoke to local news on the condition of anonymity to share her terror and shock that her alleged abuser was allowed to roam free.
'They told me that there was enough evidence to put him away. They told me that they found everything. The forensic nurse even corroborated my injuries,' she told local CBS affiliate, AZ Family.
When asked what her message would be to the prosecutor who released Wood from jail, she told the outlet, 'Enjoy my funeral'.
The department has since resubmitted the charges to the attorney's office. Wood's alleged victim told AZ Family that she started to cry when she heard the news.
'I want to get him off the streets not only to get justice for me, but to keep him from hurting somebody else 'cause he will.'
Harrowing abuse
Wood allegedly held his victim captive for two weeks in a backyard shed after she was evicted from her home.
He forced her to stay in the shed, even when she had to go to the bathroom, and would only allow her to the main home if they were together, court records obtained by AZ Central revealed.
She was allegedly subject to physical abuse during her captivity and told police that it only subsided when she had sex with him.
The alleged victim was confined to the shed that was locked with chains and bricks. In one harrowing instance, she was allegedly tied down by her ankles.
She told investigators that Wood struck her with an electrical cord and threatened to cut off her foot with a saw.
He even allegedly suffocated her by kneeling on her neck and told her he'd kill her if she reported him to authorities.
In another instance, Wood allegedly forced her into a crawl space and buried her alive for two days.
She eventually found an unlocked door and said she escaped to a neighbor, who helped her call authorities.
The neighbor told local Fox affiliate, Fox 10 Phoenix, that she found the woman with two black eyes, a cut, a bruise on her leg, and a bruise on her head.
'She was frantic. She was scared to death that he was going to find her and kill her,' the neighbor recalled.
Prosecutors said during a court hearing that the woman was forced to have sex under death threats and was tied down with chains.
'This victim, very well for 14 days, may have been worried that she may not survive this incident,' a county prosecutor said.
Wood appeared in court last month and denied the current accusations levied against him.
He told the judge that he was a father of three and the allegations were 'crazy'.
Wood then accused his alleged victim of just getting, 'out of the loony bin'.
'I guess she has these episodes, and when she has an episode, I'm supposed to call her mom,' Wood said.
'I wasn't home at the time. When I got home, the police were there, and this all just kind of broke out.'
Chilling criminal record
Wood has demonstrated a cycle of abuse since 2007 when he was arrested for aggravated assault, according to online court records.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was arrested again in 2010 for attempting to commit domestic violence, for which he also pleaded guilty.
Court records obtained by AZ Central indicated that police arrested Wood in 2007 after witnesses reported he was attempting to kidnap a woman who was screaming near his truck.
He told police that the woman was his girlfriend and they were arguing about him leaving his car.
Wood was placed on probation, which he violated three years later by choking a pregnant woman.
He was sentenced to a year in prison with jail credit and completed his time the following year.
Daily Mail reached out to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for additional court records and to the Phoenix Police Department for an update on the refiled charges against Wood.

Ghislaine Maxwell says she opposes release of grand jury material
NEW YORK, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein who was convicted in 2021 of helping him sexually abuse teenage girls, said on Tuesday she opposed the potential release of transcripts of proceedings before the grand jury that indicted her. President Donald Trump last month instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the release of the Epstein and Maxwell grand jury material, as he sought to quell discontent from his base of conservative supporters and congressional Democrats over his administration's handling of documents from the cases. Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of sex trafficking. Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He had pleaded not guilty.

Family searches for answers after 16-year-old girl ran away to meet online friends and hasn't been heard from in 11 days
A 16-year-old's family is searching for answers after police say she ran away to potentially meet online friends. Katie Hong of Fremont, California, was last seen on July 25. Surveillance footage shows her walking from her family's home to the nearby Irvington Community Park, the Fremont Police Department said Thursday. Hong left behind a note, which referenced the park and revealed that she was 'running away' to potentially meet with people she knew by their online screen names. 'The note indicated the people would not provide her with their true names, and it does not appear that Katie met these people prior to her being missing,' the Fremont Police Department said. Before she vanished, Hong was 'very active on various digital platforms, including gaming platforms,' police said. Since July 25, investigators 'have not located a digital footprint that was left directly' by Hong. Hong may feel that she disappointed her parents, but it isn't true, her father Sulghi Hong told local outlet KTVU. "She feels that she has disappointed us,' he said. 'Though we don't agree. We are not disappointed with her. Yes, she made a mistake. But everyone does.' Hong's family has started a GoFundMe as the search continues. The funds will go toward hiring private investigators, legal expenses and counseling for Hong's sister. The money will also cover her parents' daily expenses as they take time off work to focus on the search. 'Katie is a vibrant, intelligent, and beautiful young woman,' the GoFundMe reads. 'Her smile lights up every room, and she has always been mature beyond her years.' Both of Hong's parents are deaf, but she is hearing, KTVU reports. Her father works at the California School for the Deaf, where students and faculty have also joined the search efforts. 'As the daughter of two deaf parents, Katie has played an essential and selfless role in our family, always helping, always supporting, always loving,' the GoFundMe says. Hong's family is desperate 'to hear from her so that we know she's safe,' her uncle, James Han, told KTVU. "She could be with somebody still, she could be by herself, she could be at a shelter," he said. "We don't know who, we don't know what, we don't know where or what their motive is.' The last location record on Hong's phone is at Irvington Community Park, around the same time surveillance footage captured her walking. Police believe she left the phone at the park. Police are still working to identify the people Hong was set to meet. 'Based on the cumulative, verifiable evidence at this time, Katie is believed to be voluntarily missing,' police said Thursday. Police described Hong as 5 feet tall and weighing 100 pounds. She has brown eyes, dark brown hair and braces. She was wearing a navy-blue mid zip-up jacket, grey sweats, and a red Patagonia backpack, the police department said in an update Saturday. The Fremont Police Department is encouraging anyone with information to reach out to their investigations unit or tip line. 'Please help us bring Katie home,' the department said. 'She is at-risk missing based on current circumstances.' A spokesperson for the Fremont Police Department told The Independent they do not have any further updates to share as of Tuesday morning.

US House panel subpoenas Bill and Hillary Clinton for Epstein testimony
The House oversight committee on Tuesday issued subpoenas to Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as several former attorneys general and directors of the FBI, demanding 'testimony related to horrific crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein'. The investigative committee's Republican chair James Comer sent the subpoenas in response to two motions lawmakers approved on a bipartisan basis last month, as Congress navigated outrage among Donald Trump's supporters over the justice department's announcement that it would not release further details about Epstein, a disgraced financier who died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. The subpoenas raise the possibility that more details will become public about Trump's relationship with Epstein, which stretched for years but appeared to have petered out by the time Epstein was convicted of sexually abusing girls in 2008. Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported on the existence of a sexually suggestive sketch and lewd letter Trump sent to Epstein as a 50th birthday gift in 2003. The president and his allies have long flirted with conspiracy theories around Epstein's death in federal custody, but the justice department upended those by concluding he died by suicide and a long-rumored list of his client did not exist. That prompted some Trump supporters to criticize the president for failing to make good on his pledge to bring full transparency to the case, which Democrats moved to capitalize on by pushing congressional Republicans into tricky votes intended to make the Epstein case files public. Shortly before House lawmakers left Washington DC for Congress's August recess, Republican congressman Scott Perry won an oversight subcommittee's approval to compel depositions from the Clintons and the former top federal law enforcement officials in a bid to reveal more about Epstein's activities. Democratic congresswoman Summer Lee also successfully pushed a motion to subpoena justice department files related to the case. In addition to Bill and Hillary Clinton, the committee sent subpoenas to former attorneys general Jeff Sessions, Alberto Gonzales and William Barr, who served in George W Bush and Trump's presidencies, and Merrick Garland, Loretta Lynch and Eric Holder, who served under Joe Biden and Barack Obama. Former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller also received subpoenas. In its letter to Bill Clinton, Comer noted that the former president had flown four times on Epstein's private jet, and repeated an allegation that he had 'pressured' Vanity Fair not to publish sex trafficking claims regarding Epstein. The chair further says that Clinton was 'allegedly close' with Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted on sex trafficking charges related to Epstein. 'Given your past relationships with Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell, the Committee believes that you have information regarding their activities that is relevant to the Committee's investigation,' Comer wrote. In his letter to Hillary Clinton, Comer draws a more tenuous connect, writing: 'Your family appears to have had a close relationship with both Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell'. In addition to details about them, Comer notes that Clinton 'may have knowledge of efforts by the federal government to combat international sex trafficking operations of the type run by Mr. Epstein'. Comer set Bill Clinton's deposition date as 14 October and Hillary's as 9 October. Others who received subpoenas were given dates ranging from mid-August through early October, while US attorney general Pam Bondi has until 19 August to release documents related to the case. In addition to the subpoenas, Republican congressman Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna are collecting signatures for a discharge petition to force a vote on legislation compelling release of the Epstein files. That vote is not expected to happen until the House returns from recess in early September. Trump has authorized the justice department to request release of the transcripts from the federal grand juries that indicted Epstein and Maxwell, while last week, deputy attorney general Todd Blanche interviewed Maxwell in Florida in what the White House said was a bid to uncover new details about the case.
