Florida teens' dangerous social media challenge has police warning parents, homeowners
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that five juvenile suspects were walking around a neighborhood in Riverview, Florida, when two of them approached a house. Officials said one of the individuals, who was wearing a ski mask, kicked the front door and fired an airsoft gun.
The minors then fled the area.
Deputies said the "door kick challenge" could turn into a dangerous situation and encouraged parents to talk to their children.
"The door kick challenge is a prank circulating on social media. #teamHCSO is asking parents to speak to their children about this dangerous trend, which could end in tragedy," the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Video released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office shows an individual approaching the front door before kicking it several times, firing an airsoft gun and then fleeing the area.
Titania Jordan, CMO and chief parent officer at Bark Technologies, a parental control app, previously told Fox News Digital that teens are doing this social media trend to get attention.
"This sort of content is going to get likes. It's going to get comments. It is going to get shares. It's going to encourage children to try to emulate it because it's clout — they gain clout from their peers because of this," Jordan said. "Any challenge like this, children aren't thinking, 'Is this the right thing to do? Is this safe?' They're thinking, 'I want validation,' and children are going to get killed. I mean, just one person who is armed who gets their door kicked in by a kid, and you're gonna have another national headline that is very sad."

Florida woman impersonated nurse and treated over 4,000 patients, authorities say
A Northeast Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly impersonating a registered nurse and providing medical care to thousands of unsuspecting patients over the course of 18 months, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday. Autumn Bardisa, 29, from Palm Coast, was charged with seven counts of practicing a health care profession without a license and seven counts of fraudulent use of personal identification information, after a seven-month investigation involving local, state, and federal agencies, the sheriff's office said in a news release. "This is one of the most disturbing cases of medical fraud we've ever investigated," Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. "This woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk by pretending to be someone she was not and violating the trust of patients." She was arrested Tuesday and is being held on a $70,000 bond, FCSO said. Authorities said Bardisa used another nurse's license number to fraudulently gain employment at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway Hospital, where she worked from July 2023 until January 2025. According to her arrest affidavit, cited by CBS Orlando affiliate WKMG, Bardisa assumed a name similar to her own in order to obtain the job, which required a registered nurse license. She claimed to be an "education first" RN, someone who completed nursing school but had not yet passed the national licensing exam. She then told the hospital she had passed the exam and submitted a license number belonging to a nurse who shared her first name but had a different last name. Bardisa explained the discrepancy by claiming she had recently gotten married, but never provided a marriage certificate despite repeated requests, FCSO said. The alleged deception unraveled in January 2025, when Bardisa was considered for a promotion. A colleague discovered she only had an expired certified nursing assistant license and notified hospital administrators. AdventHealth terminated Bardisa on Jan. 22 and contacted the sheriff's office to launch a criminal investigation. According to investigators, Bardisa treated approximately 4,486 patients between June 2024 and January 2025, despite never holding a valid RN license. She also allegedly received payment for those services, according to her charging affidavit cited by WKMG. Bardisa is also accused of selling prescription medication, including semaglutide, better known by its brand name Ozempic, to a coworker and allegedly administering a birth control injection to another AdventHealth employee, WKMG reported. The real nurse whose identity was used told investigators she attended college at the same time as Bardisa but did not know her personally and never gave permission for her information to be used. The case was investigated in coordination with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Florida Department of Health, and the Office of State Attorney R.J. Larizza for Florida's 7th Judicial Circuit.

Child left alone with seven starving dogs in feces-covered Florida home after mom left for weeks to party in Las Vegas, authorities say
A Florida mother has been accused of leaving her child and seven dogs home alone in 'vile' conditions for two weeks as she celebrated her birthday in Las Vegas, cops say. Jessica Copeland, 37, from the town of Palatka, located 60 miles south of Jacksonville, was arrested Tuesday on child neglect and animal abuse charges after a family member alerted authorities about the alleged squalor. Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrived at the property Monday and said they found a teenage boy and seven 'severely neglected' dogs, the department said in a statement. Upon entering the home, deputies said they waded through the 'vile living conditions,' which included 'layers of animal feces on the floor, garbage and debris littered throughout, and several emaciated dogs without food and water.' Deputies found two of the dogs locked in a bedroom covered in 'four inches of feces' without food or water. Another of the animals was uncovered in a cage, and four more were in the living room, surrounded by more feces. Copeland's son reportedly told deputies that the house had been in a similar state for years because his mother 'refuses to clean.' Pictures released by the PTCO appeared to show feces-covered carpets, filthy items piled high all over the living room, and several large holes in the wall. In one photo, a Christmas tree remained standing, tilted at an angle against the wall. Several images showed extremely emaciated dogs with protruding ribs and visible signs of malnourishment, along with a filthy cage. The child also told deputies that his mother left for Las Vegas on July 21, which investigators believe was to celebrate her birthday. Copeland returned from her vacation to find deputies at the residence on Tuesday morning, assisting animal control in removing the dogs. On Wednesday, the sheriff's office shared bodycam footage of the arrest. 'The house is deplorable,' a deputy said as he confronted Copeland. 'I just got home from vacation,' she responded. 'This isn't just from two weeks,' the law enforcement officer said. 'The dogs are completely emaciated and at the point that they're being starved to death.' Copeland was charged with one count of child neglect, three counts of felony animal neglect, and four counts of misdemeanor animal neglect, online jail records show. She is being held at the Putnam County Jail on $36,500 bond. 'The depravity of this situation is both heartbreaking and infuriating,' Sheriff HD DeLoach said in a statement Wednesday. A Florida woman is behind bars after she left her teenager and seven dogs in "vile living conditions" to go on a two-week-long Las Vegas vacation, according to police. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrested Jessica Copeland, 37, on Tuesday on charges of child and animal neglect following calls from family members concerned about the teen and the dogs. The first call came on Monday when an out-of-state family member called Putnam County deputies to ask for a welfare check on a teenager in Palatka, Florida, the agency said. When deputies went to the home, an adult was outside and told them he was "cleaning" before Copeland returned home. The teen then came outside and said "there were no issues and everything was fine," according to the sheriff's office, so the deputies left. Inside the home, deputies came across "vile living conditions," including layers of animal feces, garbage and debris all throughout the home, and multiple emaciated dogs without food or water. The teenager told law enforcement that Copeland left on July 21 for Las Vegas and "different people would come to the house to check on him and bring him food," the agency said. The teen allegedly told law enforcement that the home had been in this condition for years because Copeland kept it that way and refused to clean it. Putnam County Sheriff H.D. DeLoach said the situation was "both heartbreaking and infuriating." "A mother made the conscious choice to abandon her own child in a filth-ridden home, surrounded by the stench of animal feces and suffering of neglected animals while she indulged on a two-week birthday trip to Las Vegas," he said. "This wasn't neglect. This was deliberate cruelty, both to her child and to the animals she left behind." She was quickly put in handcuffs and taken into custody. "She is now on extended vacation at the Putnam County Jail," the sheriff's office said. Her charges include one count of child neglect, three counts of felony animal neglect and four counts of misdemeanor animal neglect, and her bond is set at $36,000. "Let me be clear, our community will not tolerate this level of selfish disregard for human and animal life. She now has time for reflection," DeLoach said.
