Little girl ends up in intensive care after incident at her childcare centre: What the hell happened?
Three-year-old Lexi was fine when her parents, Sarah and Matt, dropped her off at Little Amigos Childcare in Winston Hills, in Sydney 's west, on December 23 last year.
Hours later, they received a call from staff saying Lexi 'wasn't herself' after she woke from a nap feeling unwell.
They went to the centre to collect a rapidly deteriorating Lexi and rushed her to hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator in intensive care.
'She was limp and the side of her face was drooping,' Sarah told Seven News.
'Thirty minutes more, I may not have had a daughter.'
Her partner added: 'What we were told on the phone, compared to what we witnessed, to what we were told at the centre and to what was told to emergency doctors, is all different events.'
Almost eight months on, they still don't know what happened to Lexi, who has made a full recovery and now attends a different childcare.
'Parents deserve to know where they're sending their children,' Sarah said.
Extensive tests in hospital were unable to determine the cause of Lexi's symptoms.
Lexi's parents told Seven News that the matter is being investigated by NSW Police - a claim that Little Amigos Childcare Winston Hills strenuously denied in a detailed response to Daily Mail.
The centre, which has since undergone a change in management, insists that staff notified the department about the incident and that the correct policies and procedures were followed.
The matter was investigated by the regulatory bodies, and no compliance action was issued.
'The child was conscious and communicative, and staff did not believe an ambulance was required, given her symptoms at that time,' the centre told Daily Mail.
'Proper care, first aid and supervision were provided to the child. Food and drink were taken by the child.
'The centre was under a new management and all staff involved are no longer with us. We do extensive training with staff on child safety and protection with new staff.'
The childcare insists that staff notified the department about the incident and that the correct policies and procedures were followed
The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority ruled in April that the centre required 'significant improvement' in relation to national standards.
The NSW Education Department initially cancelled the centre's service approval licence, which was recently overturned by NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal upon appeal after the facility changed providers.
The centre has also had its assessment rating amended to 'working to towards a national quality standard'.
'The department initially drafted a significant improvement in rating due to concerns of the case,' the new operator told Daily Mail.
'This was overturned by an independent review panel that concluded no evidence to suggest any major breaches of duty of care.
'And as the department's own investigation did not result in any compliance action of this case, it is an unanimous decision that assessment and rating could not be downgraded to significant improvement required.'

More than 40 obese people are rescued by the fire service each week, according to startling new figures. The shocking reality of the UK's obesity crisis has been laid bare by Home Office data on the number of firefighter callouts for helping members of the public who are 'overweight or plus size'. It showed that between April 2024 and March 2025 there were a total of 2,274 'bariatric assist' incidents. These can include scenarios where rescue teams have had to winch patients too fat to move out of their flats. Sometimes walls, windows and banisters must be removed to get them out. This year's figure is five times higher than a decade ago, reflecting how the nation's waistline has bulged massively. Between 2012 and 2013, there were a measly 429 callouts for bariatric assists. A decade later this figure reached a record high of 2,342 between 2022 and 2023. Obesity campaigners have previously warned this shocking rise increase the risk that someone will die in a fire because a crew is tied up on someone else's rescue. It comes just a week after a survey found ambulance services have been hit with bills totalling £27.5million to transport obese patients in the last five years. Health leaders have urged the government to do more to tackle the nation's obesity crisis, while campaigners warned the NHS 'cannot cope' with the burden placed on it by individuals with 'grossly unhealthy lifestyles'. Ambulance teams typically call out fire crews if patients in need of help are trapped by their bulk. These will typically be in emergency or health-related situations. Earlier this month it was revealed that health bosses have been forced to splash out on specialist ambulances and lifting equipment or pay private providers to carry people who are too large for standard vehicles. North West Ambulance Service has paid almost £15million in the past five years for ambulances to carry the overweight, Freedom of Information responses show. Brandi Glanville is going broke amid struggle to cure parasitic infection on her face, reveals how much she's spent
Brandi Glanville 's battle to find a cure for the parasitic infection in her face has not only affected her emotionally and mentally, but financially as well. The former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star caught the infection while in Morocco shooting The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex-Wives Club 2 in 2023. Now, more than two years later, Glanville has gone to more than 20 doctors to get help with her condition and is struggling to pay her bills. 'They didn't believe me,' said of the many physicians she visited. 'My insurance was like, "Nothing's wrong with you. It's just inflammation and old filler,"' she told US Weekly, referring to what she called the 'crazy lumps' on her face. 'My face started, like, moving around and doing things. I started to lose my eyesight in my left eye. It's insane,' she told the outlet. 'At first, my face was blowing up and getting really swollen. Then it started sinking in, and I felt like something was just eating me from the inside. I'm like, "It's eating my flesh."' The reality star said she has spent more than $130,000 looking for a cure. 'I'm paying the minimum on my credit cards. I've exhausted my savings,' she said. 'At my age, I feel like such a loser in a way, because I was taking care of everything. I was together. I had great credit. Now I'm scared about every little thing.' In the US, medical bills are one of the top reasons a person might file for bankruptcy, according to Glanville has turned to healthcare strategist Rachel Strauss, who calls herself the PBM Princess, for help contesting some of the charges her insurance hasn't covered. 'Where it does fall on her responsibility is working with the hospitals she saw to review what was billed and making sure it was billed properly,' Strauss told the publication. 'There are certain things that were truly emergencies that doctors will validate, and [we can get] those reduced however we can.' Strauss will help Granville negotiate service fees and come up with a payment plan that will allow her to continue to support herself. She also said it was important that the Drinking and Dating author get the insurance company to pay for some of the out-of-network visits she made to doctors, after providers within the insurance network were unable to find out what was wrong with her. 'Now that she has a definitive diagnosis, she's able to go back, and that's where she can start advocating financially,' Straus explained. 'There was something wrong, and that's where we have to go back and make sure that insurance understands that, because that is why she went out of network.' Glanville has also found a new physician to help her. Dr. Michael Scoma, is an infectious disease expert in New York City.
