Navy Pier summer 2025: Fireworks, live concerts and LatiNxt in August
Navy Pier has announced it summer 2025 lineup of events, including the usual twice-weekly fireworks, as well as concerts, trivia contests and themed cruises.
Live On The Lake! (May 23 to Sept. 1): Navy Pier's weekend music series is performed live at the outdoor beer garden every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus Memorial Day and Labor Day Mondays.
Summer Fireworks (May 24 to Aug. 30): Every Wednesday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 10 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Wave Wall Wax (May 24 to Aug. 30): Wave Wall Wax brings city DJs to the Ferrara Candy Wave Wall Stage every Saturday, spinning house and dance music.
Skyline Sessions (May 29 to Aug. 29): A variety of live music genres are featured from 5 to 9 p.m. every Thursday and Friday at the Ferrara Candy Wave Wall Stage. Among the featured artists are Partywatcher, Lydia Cash, Fuego de Cumbia, MER's Music Showcase, Jamiah Rogers, and Meg & The Wheelers.
Trivia on the Lake! (May 22 to Aug. 28): Trivia contests from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Navy Pier Beer Garden. Rack up points each week in the hopes of winning a summer-long grand prize.
Pier Fitness: Rush Hour Workouts and Sunset Yoga (June 3 to Aug. 26): Tuesday exercise classes with a fusion of Zumba and Jazzercise at 6 p.m. and yoga at 7:30 p.m. in Polk Bros Park.
Wave Wall Moves (June 7-28): Live outdoor performances every Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Ferrara Candy Wave Wall Stage. Featured groups include Devika Dhir/Dilshad Khan Kathak, Niko8, Clinard Dance's Flamenco Project, Yielded Vessels and Queer Dance Freakout.
City Cruises Live (June 8 to Aug. 24): In addition to the season-long Wednesday and Saturday night fireworks cruises, City Cruises is selling tickets for some new offerings. June 8: An Intimate Evening with Ken Block & Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel. June 13: Loud & Legendary, A Night with John Daly. July 5: A Night with Captain Sandy and Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean. July 20: A Night with Chicago Football Conference Champions: Brian Urlacher, Rex Grossman & Alex Brown. And multiple options for a 2005 Chicago White Sox World Champions Cruise with A.J. Pierzynski & Teammates.
Navy Pier Open Air (June 20 to July 18): Performances at the east end of Navy Pier include Camelphat on June 20, Gorgon City Enter the Realm on July 18 and The Chainsmokers on Aug.18. Tickets ages 18 and older, starting at $55.
Summer Block Party (June 25): Live bands, DJs and a Beer Garden stage. Family-friendly activities include arts and crafts, video games, physical movement activities, interactive spray paint murals, corn hole and hop-scotch, all along the South Dock. Starting at noon, both parties will conclude with fireworks at 9 p.m.
Navy Pier Pride (June 28): Celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community with live music, dance, storytelling, educational programs and on-site resources from community partners
Fresh Fest (July 11): Young musicians, dancers and artists will perform starting at 11 a.m.
Bastille Day (July 13): Pack a picnic to celebrate the French national holiday in Polk Bros Park with live music.
LatiNxt (Aug. 9-10): Two-day festival with music from the Latin American diaspora. Performances will take place across three Pier stages, and include an array of vendors.
The Chainsmokers (Aug. 16): The EDM-pop rock band and DJ duo will take the stage at the Aon Grand Ballroom at 7 p.m. Aug. 16. Tickets for this 18+ event start at $88; on sale now.

The coming-of-age story unfolds with such a deft balance of charm and depth that by the end of each episode, you're either grinning or teary-eyed — and many times, both. The pastel-colored aesthetic and overall wholesome introduction to Mexico's culture certainly made me want to dig out my passport for that first visit to Mexico I keep planning. It somehow feels like underselling this next Apple TV+ standout by describing it as a mere TV show. Drops of God is a feast for the senses disguised as a family drama — sort of like a wine industry version of Succession. At the center of it all is a globe-spanning narrative stemming from the death of a wine expert who sets up a series of tests in order to determine who will inherit his estate: Will it be his estranged daughter, or his prized pupil? The series is tense, beautiful, and quietly devastating. And befitting its subject, the cinematography here is as intoxicating as an aged Bourdeaux. This dreamy adaptation of Min Jin Lee's award-winning novel is, without question, one of the most extraordinary things I've ever seen on television. It begins in Japanese-occupied Korea and follows Sunja, a young woman whose decisions echo across generations, as her family migrates to Japan and struggles to carve out a life amid war, discrimination, and dislocation. The title refers to the Japanese gambling game — one the family eventually turns into a livelihood — but it's also a haunting metaphor for the randomness of life, the slim odds of success, and the quiet resilience of those determined to endure. Here again, this is an Apple TV+ show that's on par with cinema. The visuals, the acting, and the storytelling in Pachinko are each breathtaking in their own right. Watching the show, dare I say, might even change you, not unlike the way traveling outside one's home country for the first time makes a profound impression on you. This next one broke the internet just a few months ago, with its jaw-dropping and supremely addictive second season. The premise behind Severance sounds simple: What if you could split your work and personal memories into two separate lives? The execution ended up being a masterclass in slow-burn tension, eerie world-building, and existential dread. Severance is actually so good, it's now the most-watched Apple TV+ series of all time, according to the streamer, and I envy anyone discovering this puzzle box for the very first time. It's rare for a spy thriller to be both razor-sharp and grimy, but Slow Horses pulls off that quirky balancing act thanks in large part to Gary Oldman's glorious mess of a lead performance. The show also pulls off a neat trick — it turns the espionage genre on its head by focusing on a team of MI5 outcasts rather than more competent secret agents with movie star good looks. The resulting story somehow makes these characters' loser status feel both hilarious and heroic. This is basically espionage with a hangover. It's messy and unpredictable. In a genre obsessed with perfection, Slow Horses makes failure look like a superpower. From its opening moments, Tehran grabs you and doesn't let go. This tightly-wound espionage thriller follows Tamar, a Mossad hacker sent undercover in Iran's capital, where one wrong move could mean the end — not just for her mission, but for her life. What makes the show stand out isn't just the cat-and-mouse plotting, but the emotional depth running beneath every decision Tamar makes. It's a story about identity, loyalty, and the psychological cost of living a lie. The upcoming third season has me especially excited — not just because Tehran raised its game significantly in Season 2, but also thanks to the arrival of Hugh Laurie, who joins the cast as a nuclear plant supervisor. When spy thrillers are done right, avoiding tired tropes and leaning into sharp writing and believable tradecraft, they're among my favorite kinds of shows to stream. And Tehran delivers so strongly, fans of The Bureau and The Americans will feel right at home here. With a lead actress who commands every scene and a constant undercurrent of tension, double-crosses, and moral ambiguity, Tehran stays a step ahead at every turn. ‘Ballerina' Losing Opening Weekend Box Office Match To ‘Lilo & Stitch'

Lilo & Stitch, of course, had a blockbuster opening over the four-day Memorial Day weekend box office from May 23-26 and fended off Karate Kid: Legends to hold on to its box office crown in its second-weekend frame from May 30-June 1. This weekend, Disney's live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated classic is continuing its domestic box office dominance against Ballerina, which is a prequel movie set during the events of 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Deadline is projecting that Lilo & Stitch is on track to earn $32 million to $34 million from 4,185 theaters through Sunday, while forecasting a $26 million to $30 million No. 2 debut for Ballerina, which is opening in 3,409 venues. Deadline's estimate for Ballerina falls within the range of a mid-week projection by Variety, which pegged a $28 million to $30 million opening frame, but comes up short of Box Office Pro's opening weekend forecast of $32 million to $40 million. Ballerina had a $90 million production budget with a prints and advertising budget of $45 million, Deadline reported. Although the character of John Wick is part of the film's formal title, Keanu Reeves plays a supporting role in Ballerina, in which Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick all reprise their roles from the John Wick franchise. The Hollywood trade publication also projects a $9 million take for Karate Kid: Legends from 3,859 theaters domestically for the No. 4 spot and a $5.7 million take for The Phoenician Scheme from 1,678 venues for a fifth place finish. The latest comedy from director Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme staged its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the South of France in May and opened in limited release in six theaters on May 30.
