Delhi Police briefs over 4,000 private security guards ahead of Independence Day
The sessions aimed to reinforce the role of private security guards as partners in maintaining law and order and to brief them on security protocols, including identifying and responding to potential threats, an official statement said.
The guards were given guidelines on the dos and don'ts of their duties and provided with security kits comprising a cap, reflective jacket, baton and whistle.
Commissioner of Police S B K Singh addressed 'Praharis' at two major programmes — at the Multipurpose Hall, North Campus, University of Delhi, attended by around 800 guards, and at the Lotus Temple auditorium in the South-East district, attended by around 300 guards.
'Praharis are an indispensable link in community policing and their cooperation enhances the reach, responsiveness and effectiveness of law," Singh said.
The statement said private security personnel who attended Saturday's briefings in different districts included — south east (300), south (305), Rohini (300), outer north (383), north west (215), west (230), outer (160), Dwarka (362), Shahdara (238), east (253), north east (194), south west (180), New Delhi (97), north (400) and central (400).
During the interactive meetings, guards were advised to conduct polite but firm frisking where required, maintain constant observation of surroundings, report suspicious persons or activities to police, stay alert to unattended items and assist in crowd management during celebrations, the statement added. Kerala Doctor Duped Of Rs 4.43 Crore In WhatsApp Trading Scam, Two Arrested
The Kerala police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. A doctor in Kerala was scammed of Rs 4.43 crore after falling victim to a fraudulent WhatsApp scheme. The state's cybercrime unit has arrested two men in connection with the case, according to officials quoted by IANS. The accused have been identified as Mehbubasha Farooq and Rijaz, and they were arrested in Chennai by the Kannur City Cyber Crime Police. While Farooq hails from Chennai, Rijaj is a resident of Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district and has been settled in Chennai. The two accused allegedly ran a scam via WhatsApp, luring the victim with promises of high returns from investments in a fake online trading platform. According to police, the accused added the doctor — a resident of Mattannur in Kerala's Kannur district — to a WhatsApp group in June, where they promoted an online share trading scheme and promised large profits. The victim was asked to send money to several bank accounts under the pretext of a 'wealth profit plan' linked to a fictitious company named Upstock. 'We have traced about Rs 40 lakh deposited by the accused in their accounts. Besides this, the police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. The matter is under investigation now," said the officer. He also confirmed that no links to terrorism had been uncovered during the inquiry. Though the trading app would show the profits earned, he found the platform unresponsive and could not withdraw the amount, prompting him to approach the police to file a complaint with the police on June 25. 'The victim was led to believe he was making lucrative investments, but the entire setup was a sham," the cyber police said. The incident came to light after the cybercrime team tracked down the suspects by following the trail of bank account numbers and mobile phones used in the fraud. A deeper investigation led them to Chennai, where the two accused were arrested. The officer added that they are now looking into whether a larger network is involved and if there are more victims connected to the online scam. Free bus travel in Andhra for girls, women, transgender persons from Aug 15
Amaravati, Aug 11 (PTI) All girls, women, and transgender persons holding Andhra Pradesh domicile are eligible for free bus travel under the 'Stree Shakti' (woman power) scheme, to be launched statewide on August 15, Principal Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) Kantilal Dande said on Monday. 'Beneficiaries include all girls, women, and transgender persons with domicile status in Andhra Pradesh, subject to presenting valid identity proof," Dande said in a government order. The scheme will be implemented using the existing fleet of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), with additional buses to be procured based on demand, he added. Free travel will apply only to Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express services. It will not cover non-stop services, interstate operations, contract carriages, chartered services, or package tours. Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner, and all air-conditioned services are also excluded, he said. For passenger safety, the government is considering equipping staff with body-worn cameras and installing CCTV cameras in all buses. Bus stations will see upgraded amenities such as fans, chairs, drinking water, and toilets. Dande said the procurement of electric buses and extending the scheme to them could also be considered, subject to Cabinet approval. Free bus travel for women was a poll promise of the TDP-led NDA government ahead of the 2024 elections. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 1,942 crore annually—about Rs 162 crore a month—and aims to empower women by improving access to education, jobs, and mobility, Minister K Parthasarathy had earlier said.
