Crystal Palace ace picks up FA Cup winners' medal just three years after Kilmarnock release
Just two years after playing in the Scottish third tier, Justin Devenny was lifting the FA Cup
Just two years after playing in the third tier of Scottish football, Irvine footballer Justin Devenny is an FA Cup winner.
The Northern Ireland international's remarkable rise saw him lift one of the most famous trophies in world football as Crystal Palace caused a major shock by defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the final at Wembley.
It's a staggering rise for Devenny, who was released by Kilmarnock three years ago and playing for Airdrieonians just two seasons ago. He was an unused substitute for the Eagles - but that didn't stop him from joining in the celebrations and he picked up a winners' medal.
The 21-year-old has risen through the ranks at Palace, having initially joined the club's under-21 squad. But he's proven he can handle first team opportunities in the English Premier League, tallying 26 appearances and two goals this term.
And his rapid rise is set to continue next season as he eyes European football as Palace make their Europa League debut.

Viktor Gyokeres sends message to Sporting after Man Utd handed new asking price
Viktor Gyokeres is 'furious' with Sporting CP after the Portuguese giants made the decision not to sell him for a reduced fee this summer. Gyokeres, 26, emerged as one of Europe' most prolific centre forwards last season, finishing the campaign with 52 goals in 54 appearances. It followed a thrilling first campaign in Portugal where he netted 43 in 50 appearances under current Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim. The Sweden international fired Sporting to a league and cup double in May and has remained coy on his future, even failing to rule out the possibility of another season at Lisbon. But privately, Gyokeres has fully expected to be sold by the club this summer. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. The former Coventry City star has a release clause of €100million. But last year, in return for him staying on for another season, Sporting agreed to sell him this summer for a fee below that clause. It was agreed if Sporting received an offer of at least €60m with a further €10m in add-ons, they would not stand in his way. Record report however Sporting president Frederico Varandas has decided not to honour that agreement. While the Portuguese champions are still waiting for official bids, clubs who have made enquiries have been told it will cost at least €80m to do business. Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Gyokeres having seemingly turned their attention elsewhere in recent weeks. Manchester United are also interested in signing him this summer but would likely need to raise further cash this summer to move forward with a bid with O Jogo reporting there still have been no official approach from Amorim's side. The situation has left Gyokeres 'furious', feeling the club have gone back on their word and abandoned promises made to him last summer. More Trending The striker has also removed references to Sporting from his Instagram account – although he also appears to have removed mentions of sponsor Nike and the Sweden national team. Gyokeres is a bunch of different strikers blended into one. He's a bulldozer, but he's also got that turn of pace and knack of finding himself in shooting areas. Some strikers, you can see they overthink things, but he'll shoot first and ask questions later. At 6ft 2in, he could definitely add an aerial presence to his game to take himself to the next level, but he's very good at using his chest as a magnet to win these aerial duels. He may not be as fearless as others when it comes to aerial duels, but he knows how to use his strengths to his advantage to hold up the ball and bring others into play. He's not someone like Roberto Firmino who is going to be dropping deep, so if Arsenal need to change certain things to get the best out of Gyokeres then they should. Zach Lowy, European football expert With Chelsea signing Liam Delap and Arsenal focusing on Benjamin Sesko, Gyokeres' options in the Premier League may have narrowed to United. The player has also turned down what would be a hugely lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. United have no European football on offer this season but that did not prevent them from signing Matheus Cunha from Wolved. Bryan Mbeumo has also favoured a move to Old Trafford ahead of Arsenal and Newcastle with United expected to make a second bid for the Brentford star soon. Spurs close in on Frank as Postecoglou replacement
Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, despite Europa League success, and quickly set their sights on Frank – who has gained admirers for his work over an impressive seven-year period at the west London club. After positive initial talks over the weekend, confidence started to grow on Monday that Frank would be the man to replace Postecoglou and Tottenham have now entered discussions with Brentford. Frank's current deal with the Bees runs until the summer of 2027 and contains a release clause reported to be in the region of £10million. Brentford are eager to hold out for Frank's release clause, but they have started talks with Spurs over a compensation package which would soften the blow of losing the highly-rated Dane. The 51-year-old would take over a Spurs side which won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. Poor domestic form during the 2024-25 season cost Postecoglou his job as the Spurs board was forced to make 'one of the toughest decisions' it has had to make in dismissing the head coach who ended a 17-year trophy drought. 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond,' a club statement on Friday read. Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties. — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 6, 2025 PA understands Tottenham have also relieved coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo of their duties. Ryan Mason left his role as Spurs first-team coach last week to take over as West Brom boss, which opens the door for Frank to bring in some of his own staff – with current Brentford assistant Claus Norgaard a long-term ally. PA understands another departure from Spurs this summer will be Scott Munn, who was made chief football officer at the club in 2023. Tottenham technical director Johan Lange has remained in post and is set to renew allegiances with compatriot Frank. Frank and Lange worked together at Danish club Lyngby before they both made their marks in the Premier League. Lange attempted to bring Frank to Aston Villa in 2022 when he worked at the midlands outfit. Former Brondby boss Frank has developed a strong reputation in English football since he took over Brentford, with his tactical nous and man-management skills often lauded by rival managers and pundits. After Frank guided Brentford to promotion in 2021, he quickly enabled them to compete strongly in the Premier League despite a modest budget and has been linked to a number of high-profile vacancies in recent years.

Rangers announce pre season friendly against English National League side
The match will see a Light Blues XI head to the north east in July Rangers have announced a summer friendly for their second string team away to Vanarama National League side Hartlepool United. The match will take place at The Prestige Group Stadium on Sunday, July 20 with a 3pm kick-off. Rangers B team boss David McCallum will take the Light Blues XI to the north east of England. However, as it stands it is a free weekend for Russell Martin 's first team and would give him a chance to get a look at fringe men. Hartlepool United - favourites of broadcast legend Jeff Stelling - dropped out of the English Football League for the first time in 2017. They finished 10th in the National League last season and are managed by Anthony Limbrick after legend Lennie Lawrence stepped back. Rangers made major changes to the function of their B team this year as they seek to bridge the gap from the youth academy to the first-team. After an internal review, club chiefs opted to priorities loan deals over B team matches. Tickets for the Hartlepool match are priced at £12 for adults and £7 for concessions and can be purchased here. Hartlepool United will also play a Leeds United XI in a friendly with the Elland Road side and Rangers now sharing the same 49ers Enterprises owners. The Rangers first team have Ibrox friendlies against Club Brugge on July 6 and Middlesbrough on July 26 with a training camp at the England national team's St George's Park.
