The NCAA said Friday that of the over 34 million brackets submitted at the start of March Madness, approximately 1,600 remained perfect.
No. 6 University of Mississippi defeated No. 11 University of North Carolina in a 71-64 victory Friday, bringing the number of perfect brackets to around 2,000.
No. 9 Baylor University's win over No. 8 Mississippi State University busted 14,000 brackets.
No. 12 seed McNeese State University held on for a win against No. 5 seed Clemson University in a 69-67 nail-biter Thursday afternoon, the biggest upset of the tournament thus far, reducing perfect brackets from 11 million at the start of the game to just under 2 million after the buzzer.
When No. 10 Arkansas secured a 79-72 win over No. 7 Kansas, the number of perfect brackets dropped below 1%.
The second biggest upset of Monday saw No. 11 seed Drake University beat No. 6 Missouri 67-57, slashing the number of perfect brackets by more than half once again.
The first game of the tournament, Creighton University's 89-75 win over the University of Louisville, busted over half of the brackets submitted to the NCAA.
About 1,100 brackets submitted with ESPN remained perfect after the tournament's first eight games, a small fraction of the 24.3 million brackets submitted to the sports network.

One in 9.22 quintillion if bracket submitters flip a coin or just guess for their picks. The odds improve but stay infinitesimally small if submitters have knowledge of the competing teams and NCAA basketball, lowering to one in 120.2 billion, according to the NCAA. A perfect bracket requires the outcome of a whopping 63 games to be called correctly.
X, formerly known as Twitter, is offering a trip to Mars to anyone who submits a perfect bracket and $100,000 to the best bracket. If the potential perfect bracket winner does not want to make the roughly 140 million-mile voyage to Mars, they can instead receive $250,000, a SpaceX astronaut training experience and a Starship launch viewing.
ESPN has randomly drawn prizes including 20 grand prizes of $5,000 for people who predict the national champion. USA Today Sports will reward $1 million to people who submit a perfect bracket. The NCAA's Bracket Challenge Sweepstakes gives the contestant with the best bracket two tickets to next year's men's Final Four, a four-night hotel stay, $1,500 for airfare and $750 in spending money. (See here for other men's and women's March Madness bracket rewards).
Nobody has ever picked a verifiably perfect March Madness bracket, according to the NCAA. The closest a contestant has come was in 2019, when an Ohio man predicted 49 out of the tournament's 63 games, losing his streak during the Elite Eight round. Duke University is favored to win this year's tournament, according to DraftKings odds, which lists the powerhouse at a +320 betting line, meaning a $100 bet could net bettors $320. Following Duke in the odds race are the University of Florida (+380), Auburn University (+450) and the University of Houston (+600).

Big Ten reportedly floating radical new College Football Playoff idea
The future of the College Football Playoff has been a key topic of discussion all offseason. ESPN secured a six-year, $7.8 billion contract that ensures the network will remain the sole media rights holder of the event through the 2031-32 season in March of 2024. But, whether or not the CFP stays at a 12-team model or expands has been one of the hot button issues of college football. After plenty of back-and-forth and a spring and summer full of discussion and disagreements, the Big Ten has suddenly introduced a radical new idea for the CFP's future. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Big Ten has floated the idea of massive expansion to the College Football Playoff that could bring the postseason field to 24 or 28 teams. While Thamel reports that the idea is in its very early stages, the proposal eliminates conference title games and offers a large number of auto bids for all four power leagues, sources said. In the proposed 28-team CFP model, the Big Ten and SEC would each get seven auto bids while the ACC and Big 12 would each receive five. There would be two auto bids for the non-Power 4 conferences and two at-large teams. The 28-team format would put 20 playoff games on campus, which would accentuate the success of that from last year's CFP. The CFP Committee would seed the field and pick the at-large teams. Per Thamel, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti ran the idea by his conference Wednesday, sources said, and that it has begun being shared by others. In order to expand the playoff before the 2026 season, the expectation is that leaders need to reach a resolution before the end of this year. Momentum for a 16-team CFP format picked up steam throughout the spring, but leaders throughout college athletics haven't seen eye to eye on exactly how bids to a 16-team CFP would be awarded. The 5+11 model is supported by both the Big 12 and the ACC and it gained more support from the SEC after the league's spring meetings. The 5+11 model would include the five highest-ranked conference champions and 11 at-large bids. Another 16-team CFP model featured the Big Ten and SEC each receiving four automatic bids, the ACC and Big 12 receiving a pair of automatic qualifiers, one bid to the Group of 6 champion and then three at-large bids. Akshay Bhatia gets back into top 30 in stunning fashion — with hole-out eagle and ace
Keep it rolling, Akshay! 🔥A hole-out eagle and birdie on @AkshayBhatia_1's last three holes @BMWChamps.📺 @PGATOURLIVE on ESPN+ Askhay Bhatia found his way back on the right side of the Tour Championship cutline — if only temporarily — during Saturday's third round of the BMW Championship, and he did so in stunning fashion. Bhatia started the week at 29th in the FedEx Cup playoff standings, meaning he was eligible for the season finale at East Lake, but after an opening round of 75, it appeared he might be losing his grasp on a spot. He fought back with a solid 69 on Friday, but then kick-started things on Saturday with a hole-out eagle on the par-4 7th. After a birdie on No. 8 and then bogeys on Nos. 12 and 15, Bhatia rolled in a birdie on the 16th hole, and then made some real magic on the par-3 17th. This shot on the 227-yard hole marked Bhatia's first hole-in-one in PGA competition, and it came at an important time, pushing the California native into the top 30. First ace of his career as he battles on the bubble!Akshay Bhatia is now projected into the Top 30 in the FedExCup after a hole-in-one! The 23-year-old Bhatia hit a rough patch this season and hadn't recorded a top-10 finish since March when he came up a shot short of a playoff at the Players Championship. But an opening-round 62 at the FedEx St. Jude led to a T-6 last week in the first playoff event and the two-time PGA Tour winner played himself into the final group on Sunday at the 3M Open with a third-round 63 even though he faltered on the final day, shooting 75 to tumble to T-25.
