Actor Ajay Devgn and Kajol's son Yug Devgan will be making his film debut soon with Jackie Chan's upcoming Karate Kid: Legends. Yug will lend his voice alongside his father, Ajay, for the Hindi version of the film.
The film also stars Ben Wang, and Daniel LaRusso in the lead.
While Ajay will be the voice for the legendary character of Mr Han (played by Jackie Chan), Yug will make his debut as Li Fong (played by Ben Wang). What makes this even more special is that it's not just Yug's first film project – it's also his very first collaboration with his father, Ajay Devgn.
Confirming the same, Sony Pictures India on Tuesday announced the exciting news. They shared a photo of Ajay and Yug and wrote in the caption, 'The master has a new voice. So does the student! Ajay Devgn and Yug Devgan are all set to bring Jackie Chan and Ben Wang's epic journey to life in #KarateKidLegends (Hindi). Kick into action with the Hindi trailer dropping soon.'
Reacting to the news, a user wrote in the comments, 'Can't wait to hear Yug. Yug's debut is already iconic.' 'ICONIC pairing, period. Loving this father-son energy,' added another.
Someone also commented, 'They understood the dub assignment.'
Set in New York City, Karate Kid: Legends revolves around the story of Li Fong, a young kung fu prodigy who navigates a new school and forges unlikely friendships. As he's drawn into a high-stakes face-off with a local karate champion, Li is mentored by Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and the iconic Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). Under their guidance, Li embarks on a powerful journey of growth, self-discovery, and bravery.
The film is set to release in theatres across India on May 30. It will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment India.
Ajay's last release was Raid 2, alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Vaani Kapoor in key roles. It was released on May 1.
Besides Karate Kids: Legends, Ajay has several films in the pipeline, including Son of Sardaar 2, De De Pyaar De 2, Ranger and Dhamaal 4.

Female voices deserve more space in film music: Jonita Gandhi

Jonita Gandhi has voiced concerns about the underutilization of female vocalists in Hindi film music, pointing out the trend of reducing their roles to mere lines in male-dominated songs. She questions the creative choices that sideline the female narrative and highlights the waste of talent when renowned singers are given minimal parts. In a candid, no-holds-barred moment that echoes the growing calls for gender equity across creative industries, singer Jonita Gandhi pulled back the curtain on a troubling pattern in Hindi film music - female voices being reduced in songs otherwise dominated by male leads. R esponding to a pointed question during an exclusive interview with Bombay Times, about the recurring trend where even top-tier female vocalists are often handed just a few lines sandwiched between a male-dominated melody, Jonita didn't mince words. 'Honestly, they can do better,' she said bluntly. 'I don't think there's a reason why we only need to give four lines to the girl in a three- or four-minute-long song. ' Jonita's critique cuts deep into the creative choices made by composers and lyricists who continue to sideline the female narrative in music. 'Why not just make the song a male solo, if that's the case?' she asked. 'If you're including a female voice, give it space, give it meaning. Not enough effort is made to flesh out the female perspective.' Her comments shine a spotlight on a longstanding issue in the Indian music industry, where male-led songs dominate both screen time and sonic space. Even when renowned female singers are roped in, their presence is often tokenistic, just enough to check a box, rarely enough to make a statement. 'We're talking about incredible talents—Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal—we all know they're phenomenal. But what's the point of bringing them into a song just to hand them two or three lines? It's a waste,' Gandhi asserted. She also acknowledged the bind many female artists find themselves in: accept a minimal part or miss out entirely. 'It's not in our control. You either do it or you don't, and someone else does. And sometimes these songs are just too beautiful to pass up,' she admitted. Yet, the bigger issue, she says, is the scarcity of female-centric songs that could serve as a counterbalance. 'It's not happening,' she said. Jonita's response to this disparity is carving her own path. 'That's also why I've started focusing more on my own music. Because in my own songs, I'm the star!' she signed off with a smile.

‘They Are Very Much Their Own People': Kajol On Parenting Nysa And Yug

Last Updated: Kajol spoke about her relationship with her kids and how her parenting journey has been so far. Kajol is gearing up for her upcoming horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by her husband Ajay Devgn. The film is set to hit theatres on June 27. Maa delves into how a mother can go to any length to protect her child. In real life, Kajol is a mother of two, Nysa and Yug. In her latest interview, she shared how her relationship is with her kids and how her parenting journey has been so far. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kajol was asked whether her children, Nysa and Yu,g are more attached to her or Ajay Devgn. Reacting to this, the actress proudly stated that they both are her kids, and she is happy that 'they are very much their own people." Explaining this further, the actress recalled how once she asked her son Yug who he wished to look like, his father Ajay or his mother. It was his answer that surprised Kajol. Kajol shared, 'He looked at me like I'm holding a gun on his head. And he looked at me very calmly and very diplomatically turned around and says, 'I look like Yug. I am Yug'. So I think that defines my children." She added, 'I'm very, very happy to say that I've brought up two individuals who have their own personalities, who I hope have taught to think for themselves and I think that's been my biggest teaching as a parent." Moreover, Kajol also shared that once she reaches home, her kids always come up to her whining about things. 'The minute I see them ek baar mil gayi usko toh I am only mom. There's no other character that I can play at that point of time," said Kajol. Kajol's upcoming film Maa also features Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles. Thug Life box office collection day 7: Mani Ratnam delivers his first flop in 10 years, Kamal Haasan-starrer falls short of Baby John, Sikandar

Thug Life box office collection day 7: What was supposed to be a dream project, an attempt at creating something 'out of the box' and 'much-anticipated collaboration' has turned into a disaster. Thug Life is losing shows and witnessing drop in collection with each passing day. On day seven, the Kamal Hassan-Mani Ratnam film earned just Rs 1.25 crore India nett, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The collection is far less than Kamal Haasan's previous release, Indian 2 (another flop). Varun Dhawan's Baby John and Salman Khan's Sikandar, which tanked at the box office as well, both performed better on day seven, earning Rs 2.25 crore and Rs 4 crore, respectively. But to be fair to Kamal Haasan, these films had higher show count. On day 7, Kamal Haasan's film witnessed an overall occupancy of 15.57% in the Tamil language with 1132 shows across the country. The shows which were already reduced from 2503 to 1290. A further 158 shows were taken away on its seventh day. The movie met with a similar fate in the Hindi and Telugu language where the occupancy was 4.38% and 13.98%, respectively. Shows in Hindi are reduced to 212 from 218 and 567 from 581 in the Telugu language. While Vikram and Kalki 2898 AD were blockbusters at the box office, his films Indian 2 and now Thug Life have been a disappointment. Comparatively, Indian 2 had a better seven-day collection, which was Rs 81.9 crore India nett. Meanwhile, Thug Life's seven day collection stands at Rs 42.25 crore. This is also a career low for Mani Ratnam after hits like the Ponniyin Selvan franchise (2022-2023), Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018), and O Kadhal Kanmani (2015) in the past decade. Kamal Haasan's film released across the world sans Karnataka on June 5. His controversial remark on Kannada language resulted in the ban of the film from the state. However, with the film's current performance it would have hardly added to the overall collections. Apart from Kamal Haasan, the film also stars actors Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR in the lead role.
