Government Approves Rs 2.07 Lakh Crore MSP For Kharif Crops For 2025-26

The support price for common and A grade varieties has been increased by Rs 69 per quintal to Rs 2,369 and Rs 2,389 per quintal, respectively.
In a major boost to farmers, the central government has approved a Minimum Support Price (MSP) package worth Rs 2.07 lakh crore for the Kharif season of 2025-26. A decision in this regard was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The new MSP ensures at least 50 per cent profit over the cost of production, benefiting growers of 14 major crops including paddy, maize, pulses, oilseeds, and cotton.
Briefing about the Cabinet's decision, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said the Cabinet approves a hike in paddy MSP by Rs 69 per quintal to Rs 2,369 for 2025-26 Kharif season.
Here're updated MSP for key kharif crops:
Maize: Rs 2,400 per quintal (59% profit)
Tur (Pigeon Pea): Rs 8,000 per quintal (59% profit)
Moong (Green Gram): Rs 8,768 per quintal (50% profit)
Sesame: Rs 9,846 per quintal (50% profit).
The support price for common and A grade varieties has been increased by Rs 69 per quintal to Rs 2,369 and Rs 2,389 per quintal, respectively, for the forthcoming kharif season of 2025-26 crop year (July-June).
Among pulses, support price for tur has been raised by Rs 450 to Rs 8,000 per quintal, while that of urad MSP by Rs 400 to RS 7,800 per quintal and moong MSP by Rs 86 to Rs 8768 per quintal for 2025-26 kharif marketing season.
The government has increased the MSP of Kharif crops for 2025-26, to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters.
The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for nigerseed, followed by Ragi, Cotton, and Sesamum.
The increase in kharif crops support price for 2025-26 is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.
How MSP Is Determined
The MSP is fixed based on various factors such as the cost of production, domestic and international price trends, and maintaining price parity among different crops. Considerations also include the balance between agriculture and non-agricultural sectors, and optimal usage of water and land resources.

Rabi season (2014–25): Rs 7.21 lakh crore (2.7 times increase)
Central government fixes the minimum support price (MSP) for 23 crops — 14 kharif, seven rabi and two commercial crops. However, it procurers few commodities, especially wheat and rice for the central pool for the purpose of food security.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India in its latest bulletin last week said average mandi prices of major food crops, barring wheat, were ruling below the minimum support price due to bumper harvest of kharif and rabi crops.
Also, high frequency food price data for May so far (up to May 19) showed a broad-based moderation in prices of both cereals and pulses.

Tripura: Authorities get strict as 60 per cent consumers found not paying power bills
Agartala: Around 60 per cent electricity consumers in Tripura do not pay energy bills, forcing the authorities to take drastic steps including disconnection of power lines and imposition of hefty fines against the defaulters, an official said on Saturday. A senior official of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) said that out of 9.87 lakh electricity consumers in the state, only 4.32 lakh customers are paying their bills on time. 'Lakhs of electricity consumers, mostly in rural and interior areas, do not pay their electricity bills. We have imposed a hefty fine and disconnected electric lines of the defaulters,' the official said. He said that during the past two years, the electricity lines of thousands of default consumers were disconnected. 'In many occasions, the TSECL engineers and workers were attacked or prevented when they went to disconnect the power lines of default consumers,' the official said. Tripura Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath earlier said that the TSECL has undertaken a massive effort across the state to install rooftop solar power plants in thousands of homes under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a central scheme encouraging rooftop solar power adoption through generous subsidies. Under the scheme, residents can install rooftop solar panels and not only reduce their electricity expenses to zero but also earn refunds for surplus energy supplied back to the grid, the Minister had said. 'My last power bill before installing the solar plant was Rs 8,726. Now, after switching to solar, I received a refund of Rs 763 from TSECL,' Nath said. The TSECL purchasing power from the solar power suppliers at Rs 2.65 per unit the Minister had said adding that over 300 households have installed rooftop solar plants so far in Tripura and thousands of families registered their names seeking to install such solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Nath on Friday said that the TSECL is contemplating to use drones and other technologies to detect power theft, power loss and illegal hook line usage in the state. The Minister urged the people to pay electricity bills on time and help the corporation to ensure steady power supply by discouraging theft and wastage. Tripura has been a power surplus state since 2011 and supplies electricity to other northeastern states and neighbouring Bangladesh from its several gas-based power plants.

Working on setting up major industries in Mandya: HDK
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday reaffirmed his commitment to bringing in major industries to the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency and said he will personally seek cooperation from the State government for the region's development. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of MySugar High School in Mandya, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the aspirations of Mandya's people must be realised through unity and sustained efforts. 'I was elected with the blessings of voters who transcended caste and party lines. I am committed to striving for a meaningful development of the constituency,' he said. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with a key ministerial responsibility, and that he is actively working towards establishing a major industry in Mandya. The cooperation of the State government is vital to make this vision a reality.
