Crew sign free agent M Amar Sejdic
March 3 - The Columbus Crew signed free agent midfielder Amar Sejdic for the 2025 season on Monday.
The deal includes a club option for 2026 for the 28-year-old veteran, who played for Nashville SC in 2024.
"Amar's technical characteristics will offer greater tactical flexibility to our midfield group," said Crew general manager Issa Tall. "With his experience in MLS and familiarity of our style of play from his time with our coaching staff, Amar will be a valuable addition to our team, and we are excited welcome him and his family to Columbus."
Sejdic has recorded two goals and three assists in 95 MLS matches (50 starts) with CF Montreal (2019-21), Atlanta United (2021-23) and Nashville.
Sejdic was a second-round pick by Montreal in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft out of Maryland, where he converted the game-winning penalty kick in a 1-0 win against Akron in the 2018 NCAA national championship game.

Wrexham chief clarifies Kevin De Bruyne transfer links and Ryan Reynolds' budget
Man City star Kevin De Bruyne was linked with a surprise move to Wrexham following their promotion from the Championship, and a senior club official has now discussed the connection The likelihood of Kevin De Bruyne making a sensational move to Wrexham has been made crystal clear by a senior club official. No sooner had the Red Dragons confirmed promotion from League One in April, than speculation began about potential summer transfer targets. Manchester City star De Bruyne was one of the big names surprisingly linked in the immediate aftermath of achieving their third successive promotion. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is expected to be well-backed by the club's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney during the transfer window. The two actors have ambitions of taking the Welsh side all the way to the Premier League, but may need to bring in new recruits to be competitive in the Championship. De Bruyne is on the look out for a new team after City confirmed they would not be offering the midfielder a new deal. However, Les Reed, an advisor to Wrexham's board, has now confirmed that the 33-year-old would be well out of the club's reach financially. The former FA technical director said teams in the Saudi Pro League and MLS were more likely to be able to afford De Bruyne's wage demands. Speaking to the i Paper, Reed said: "I think we were linked with Kevin De Bruyne at one stage [but] there is a certain level of Premier League player who, if they are on £100k to 150k-a-week, are still going to get close to that if they move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia than if they go to Wrexham." Reed described the club's transfer budget as "decent" but not unlimited after highlighting the significant amount of revenue generated under Reynolds and McElhenney's ownership. He also said the club would be looking to reduce the average age of the squad after dismissing the notion of it being a retirement home for senior pros. "In the Championship, they [new signings] will need to be athletic. It's not swansong land for players who are having one more go before they retire," said Reed. "Our ambition will be to drive the average age down, but at the same time remain competitive." While Wrexham might not be able to afford the likes of De Bruyne, Reed said they would remain ambitious in terms of trying to compete at the top end of the second tier. "We are definitely aiming high and we mustn't lose that aspiration and momentum," he said. "We're not by any means predicting that we're going to go [straight] to the Premier League, but we don't just want to go, 'Okay, the journey is over, we're in the Championship, let's stabilise and consolidate.' "We need to get through this window with some good recruitment and establish ourselves, not as a survivor, but as a challenger, i.e. in a good season, could we get into the play-offs? We would love to break that record [of four straight promotions] and, given the circumstances, we'll give it our best shot." Another player who has been linked with a move to Wrexham is Tottenham's Ben Davies. But former Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has urged the defender to resist dropping down the divisions. He told BoyleSports: "To Ben Davies I'd say that you should stay as high as you could for as long as you can. He's played quite regularly at Spurs this year and he's still in the national team and doing exceptionally well for them. "I think Craig Bellamy relies on him quite a bit as well with his experience. So I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to jump out of the Premier League at the moment." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. David Beckham gets his own way after remark Lionel Messi's wife made about him spoke volumes
David Beckham gets his own way after remark Lionel Messi's wife made about him spoke volumes David Beckham will be awarded with a knighthood next week, and his decision to bring Lionel Messi to Inter Miami has been highlighted by the Argentine's wife David Beckham spent years recruiting Lionel Messi to Inter Miami (Image: Getty Images ) Antonela Roccuzzo, Lionel Messi's wife, has expressed her gratitude to David Beckham for the warm welcome they received upon their move to Miami. As Beckham is set to be honoured with a knighthood, his role as co-owner of MLS team Inter Miami is highlighted, having launched the club's journey back in 2014 by selecting Miami as the base for his new franchise. Inter Miami made their MLS debut in 2020 and, within three years, secured the signing of Messi, often hailed as the greatest footballer of all time. Beckham's vision of bringing a football club to a city that had been without one for years, coupled with Miami's rich cultural diversity, were pivotal factors in his decision to establish the team in The Magic City. The move proved to be a brilliant strategy, especially when it came to attracting the Argentinian superstar and his family, with Roccuzzo sharing her affection for Miami in an interview with Haute Living last year. "What I love the most about Miami is the climate, the people, and the landscape," said Roccuzzo. "All this makes you feel like you're living in perpetual summer," reports the Mirror. Article continues below Antonela Roccuzzo praised the welcome she and her family received from Inter Miami (Image: AP ) She also commended the reception organised for their arrival, which Beckham would have played a part in, as Messi was unveiled at DRV PNK Stadium to an enthusiastic crowd. "The biggest surprise for us was the warm welcome we received when we arrived," she said. "We knew it would be special, but it exceeded all our expectations. "It has actually been very easy [adapting to life in Miami], and we're all happy about it. Our main concern was that the kids might not like it or adjust well, but from day one, they adapted very well." Messi shared his wife's sentiments, praising the "amazing" city of Miami and the ease with which they settled in after Beckham's persistent recruitment efforts. "We were convinced we wanted to come here, and the people made it very easy, the people in the club and the people I see day to day in the streets and the amazing city, it makes living here very easy and happy," the football legend expressed. Messi and his family swapped Paris for Miami in 2023 (Image: Getty Images ) Article continues below "The school too has helped us get comfortable and get settled in in our day-to-day lives, so it was a lot easier than I thought it would be because our experience of changing from Barcelona to Paris was very complicated and this has been completely different." Beckham, who was awarded an OBE in 2003 for his sporting and charitable contributions, is set to receive a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours list next week, according to The Sun. His care for the Messi family is just one example of how his attitude in life has finally led to him being rewarded with the knighthood. The Manchester United icon will join the ranks of former United legends like Matt Busby, Alex Ferguson and Bobby Charlton, all of whom have been knighted. He'll also be the first ex-footballer since Sir Kenny Dalglish in 2018 to receive this honour.

Lionel Messi's wife's remark sums up David Beckham as he finally gets own way
David Beckham's decision to build an MLS franchise in Miami went down extremely well with Lionel Messi's wife Antonela Roccuzzo, who showered praise on the Floridian city Lionel Messi's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, praised David Beckham for the hospitable welcome they received when moving to Miami, as the English icon of football prepares to finally be awarded with a knighthood. The co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami set the wheels in motion for his American project back in 2014 when he confirmed that he had chosen the Miami as the base for his new franchise. It was in 2020 when Inter Miami made their MLS debut, and just three short years later, they managed to capture the signature of the player regarded by many as football's greatest ever. The opportunity to bring a football club to a city that had gone without one for years as well as the cultural diversity that exists in the Floridian city were two key aspects in Beckham's decision to set up shop in The Magic City. It turned out to be a masterstroke when it came to recruiting the Argentinian alongside his three sons and wife, with the latter previously explaining the love she cultivated for the city since making the move. "What I love the most about Miami is the climate, the people, and the landscape," Roccuzzo told Haute Living."All this makes you feel like you're living in perpetual summer." She reserved special praise for the welcome that had been organised for their arrival – which Beckham would have had a hand in arranging – with Messi being announced at DRV PNK Stadium in front of a packed crowd. "The biggest surprise for us was the warm welcome we received when we arrived," she explained. "We knew it would be special, but it exceeded all our expectations. "It has actually been very easy [adapting to life in Miami], and we're all happy about it. Our main concern was that the kids might not like it or adjust well, but from day one, they adapted very well." Messi echoed the thoughts of his wife as he spoke about the "amazing" city of Miami and how quickly they were able to become comfortable following a recruitment pitch from Beckham that went on for years. "We were convinced we wanted to come here, and the people made it very easy, the people in the club and the people I see day to day in the streets and the amazing city, it makes living here very easy and happy," the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner said. "The school too has helped us get comfortable and get settled in in our day-to-day lives, so it was a lot easier than I thought it would be because our experience of changing from Barcelona to Paris was very complicated and this has been completely different." Having been awarded an OBE award in 2003, Beckham's long list of sporting ventures and charity endeavours will finally see him get his own way and seal his dream of becoming a Sir, as The Sun report he will be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours list next week. And Beckham's care for the Messi family is just one example of how his attitude in life has finally led to him being rewarded with the knighthood. The Manchester United legend will join the likes of former iconic United figures in Matt Busby, Alex Ferguson and Bobby Charlton to all be awarded knighthoods. He'll also be the first former footballer since Sir Kenny Dalglish in 2018 to be handed the honour. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
