Scotland captain makes long-awaited injury comeback

Corsie replaced forward Rachel Daly, who was among the scorers in an eye-catching result that lifted Villa up to ninth in the Barclays Women's Super League table.
It capped an emotional evening for the 34-year-old centre-back, who has endured a frustrating six-month spell on the sidelines. Corsie was an unused substitute in the opening game of the campaign before being ruled out for an initial eight weeks following surgery. A calf setback in January further delayed her comeback and forced her to miss Scotland's UEFA Euro 2025 play-off heartbreak against Finland and the past four UEFA Women's Nations League fixtures.
Her return comes at a pivotal moment for the national side, with newly appointed head coach Melissa Andreatta set to name her first Scotland squad next month for crunch fixtures against Austria and the Netherlands.
Corsie will now hope to play her way back into the international fold as she builds up fitness in the final weeks of the domestic season.

'Be careful' - Emile Heskey warns £50m England ace over Arsenal or Chelsea moves

Emile Heskey has warned England midfielder Morgan Rogers of the potential perils of joining Arsenal or Chelsea this summer and says he may be 'wasted' at a 'theoretically bigger club'. Rogers, 22, enjoyed a brilliant season at Villa Park as Unai Emery's side finished sixth in the Premier League and went deep in both the Champions League and FA Cup. The former Manchester City player made over 50 appearances in all competitions and scored 14 goals, including a stunning hat-trick in the Champions League. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Rogers but Heskey says the England international must be 'really careful' as he considers his future at Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta is keen to sign another midfielder on top of Martin Zubimendi, who is set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium in a £55m deal from Real Sociedad. Arsenal's interest in Rogers came after Chelsea were linked with a move earlier in the year. Aston Villa are reluctant to lose Rogers, already considered one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but may be forced into some difficult decisions this summer after narrowly failing to qualify for the Champions League. If Villa do put Rogers up for sale, they will reportedly ask for at least £50m for a player who has already earned four caps for England. 'I think he needs to be really careful,' ex-Aston Villa striker Heskey told Prime Casino. 'He's a huge asset for Villa and right now he's a fantastic player. 'But he's got to choose wisely. If I was him, I would stay at Villa, establish myself and play more football. 'Because if you go to a theoretically bigger club and you don't play football, you're wasting your talent. 'He was in the second team, and trained sometimes with us, and we could see something there. 'But the impact he's had in Villa, what a player, we had an exceptional player here, absolutely. 'Of course, everyone knows how good Morgan is. A lot of players went on loan or have been sold. 'But he was in that age, that moment, we had the players that we had that allowed us to create the most successful years in the history of our club. 'In that moment, sometimes when they arrive they are two, three years younger and at that moment there is Kevin in his prime, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling and sometimes it's difficult. That's the only reason why. 'In the situation we are in right now, of course these kinds of players would be with us. This is obvious. 'I'm happy for him because he's a lovely guy. He exploded last season and this season he's a really, really top-class player. England have another exceptional player.' Pep Guardiola speaking in December 2024 'He's got to play. I love the way that he plays. He plays with enthusiasm, he plays with freedom and he's a very good player. 'So I would suggest he stays at Aston Villa for another season at least.' Rogers started England's World Cup qualifying win over Andorra on Saturday before coming off the bench in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Senegal on Tuesday night. Failing to qualify for the Champions League harmed Aston Villa's chances of signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent transfer from Manchester United. More Trending Heskey believes Rashford 'did enough' to earn a permanent move to Villa Park during his loan spell but says the numbers involved in the deal are too hefty. 'Marcus did enough to earn a move in football terms, but the figures don't match the value of what they're willing to pay,' Heskey added. 'His wages are astronomical. They're too big for Villa, I think. They could probably afford it, but it would stop them doing any other business, and it doesn't make sense. 'If they pay up for him too, their current players are going to be asking to have their contracts looked at as well. It sets an awkward precedent.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Emi Martinez's wife issues update on Villa star amid Man Utd transfer links

Emi Martinez appeared to be saying goodbye to Aston Villa fans at the end of their last match of the season amid summer transfer links, but his wife has a different version of the story Emi Martinez's wife has denied that her husband has said farewell to Aston Villa. A visibly emotional Martinez was seen waving to supporters following Villa's final home game of the 2024/25 campaign against Tottenham on May 16, prompting speculation he could leave this summer. The Argentina international has a contract at Villa until 2029, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League could prompt him to go elsewhere. There have been reports about Villa's concerns with complying with the Premier League 's profit and sustainability rules, suggesting the club might need to cash in on their top players. ‌ Martinez has been linked with a move to Manchester United, who first made contact in January amid worries over Andre Onana. Villa were then said to be keeping an eye on Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia as a potential replacement for Martinez. ‌ But his wife Mandinha has dismissed the speculation, telling BBC WM: "He wasn't in tears. No. Anybody who knows Emi knows he is an emotional character and that's who he is. It just shows you how much he loves the Villa fans. I love the Villa fans. We love Villa." Her words may reassure Villa supporters somewhat, but Martinez himself has been a lot less committed in public. SSpeaking to reporters after reporting for international duty recently, he said: "My future? I don't know, I come here to play for the national team, and that's the only thing that matters to me right now. "Do I want to move to a new club? The transfer window just opened, so there's still a long way to go." Meanwhile, Villa boss Unai Emery has also hinted that Martinez will be on his way this summer. Speaking before the final game of the season against United on May 25 – in which Martinez was sent off – he said: "We will see. Of course, it is the last match here [this season], and I don't know. 'We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field. Of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season." ‌ HAVE YOUR SAY! Would you like to see Emi Martinez at your club this summer? Comment below. Martinez also has strong links with Arsenal, having spent much of his career on the books in north London. He has previously suggested he still loves Arsenal and praised Mikel Arteta. "I think it was 10-11 years I was here," Martinez told Sky Sports. ‌ "I've still got friends here. I came here as a lad and left a man. I'll always love this club. "They are still second, they've come far and have one of the best managers in the world. I've worked with Mikel [Arteta]. I know how good he is." Man Utd advised to sign £40m Arsenal target in Marcus Rashford swap deal

Manchester United should try to agree a stunning swap deal with Aston Villa involving Marcus Rashford, according to Old Trafford hero Wes Brown. Rashford spent the second-half of last season on loan at Villa Park and has been linked with a permanent move to the Midlands club. Ruben Amorim sanctioned Rashford's departure from Manchester United and is unlikely to offer the England international an olive branch this summer. Rashford is reportedly 'dreaming' of a move to Barcelona after coming close to joining the La Liga giants during the January transfer window. But the 27-year-old is not against returning to Aston Villa, where he largely impressed and enjoyed playing under Unai Emery. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Villa have been told Rashford will cost £40m this summer and the club are currently weighing up a proposal after missing out on Champions League football on the final day of the season. With Aston Villa likely to renew talks with Manchester United, Brown has advised his former club to enquire into the possibility of signing Ollie Watkins as part of the deal. Amorim is determined to sign a new No. 9 this summer and Watkins, who has scored 87 goals in 223 appearances for Villa, could be a cheaper option than Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko. Watkins was heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park in January after Arsenal made a surprise £40m bid but the 29-year-old ended up staying put. United were keen to sign Liam Delap before he joined Chelsea for £30m but Brown believes Watkins would be an even better option than the former Ipswich Town forward. 'Manchester United need a striker who has goals and although Liam Delap might not get you 20 just yet, he is a great player and has all the attributes to be a success,' Brown told BoyleSports. 'Personally, having Rasmus Hojlund up front on his own looked very difficult for him, he got a lot of stick and looked to have no back up whatsoever. 'He cannot be left in that position again because it's not fair on him, Chido Obi came in who is another young player, but United have to get a striker this summer. 'Marcus Rashford will be a difficult permanent signing for Aston Villa, as there are contractual obligations and a certain level of money that he wants. 'Therefore, I'm not sure it will be beneficial for Villa to sign Marcus or if it is even a possibility. However, one thing is for sure, Rashford will bring value and talent to any team he is playing for. 'Signing Rashford is a lot easier to say than to actually get done, but if he did sign for Villa, he would be fantastic for them as he has been since January.' Speaking to Metro 'Delap would've been a good player for United, but I'd go for experience. Manchester United need a striker and Ollie Watkins has shown us that he can do that in the Premier League. 'Would Aston Villa swap Watkins for Marcus Rashford? I'm not sure because they still trust Watkins and would need to find a big replacement. 'They would want a striker who can get 20 goals and those are hard to come by. Look at United and how Rasmus Hojlund has struggled, but a striker like Watkins would be perfect for United.' Rashford has made more than 400 appearances for boyhood club Manchester United but a permanent move away from Old Trafford appears to suit all parties. Five-time title winner Brown added: 'Marcus Rashford is going to have to start playing really well wherever he goes, first of all. 'He's done well at Aston Villa, he's got his head back in the game. But he still has two years on his contract at United. More Trending 'If he is looking to move, he would obviously want a big club and Barcelona would be ideal. But it's a lot of money. If the club is looking to get rid of him, they're probably wanting to get paid as well. 'It's not an easy one to sort out, talking from my heart, I think it would be brilliant if Ruben Amorim and Marcus could sort things out. 'When he's on form, it's a player United have really missed. I hope they can sort it out in a way that everybody gets what they want. 'For Marcus personally, he just needs to get his head down and play some football now. Hopefully this gets sorted out sooner rather than later.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
