And Villa made a cool £50million profit when they sold him to Saudi giants Al-Nassr two years later. Redmond's contract with Feyenoord expires at the end of June and Villa have beaten off interest from several clubs in the Premier League and across Europe. But the kid who can play as a striker or on the wing is poised to join Villa on a four-year deal. Emery has been looking to add a young forward to Villa's ranks since Duran was sold in January. Redmond has made nine senior appearances for Feyenoord and made his first team debut in November during a 4-1 win over Almere City in the Eredivisie. He went on to feature in the club's next two league matches and scored both of his side's goals in a 2-1 victory over MVV Maastricht in the KNVB Cup on December 17. Every time Liverpool BROKE English transfer record before Florian Wirtz
Stan Collymore - 1995 (£8.5m) Liverpool broke the transfer record for Stan Collymore back in 1995, paying Nottingham Forest for one of the most exciting talents in England. It was a real coup for the Reds and he went on to form a fantastic strike partnership with Robbie Fowler. Advertisement However, Liverpool just weren't good enough, earning a reputation for not taking things seriously enough. The 'Spice Boys' were then broken up quite deliberately at Anfield and an incredible young talent in Michael Owen made Collymore pretty redundant after just a couple of seasons. Still, 35 goals in 81 games wasn't bad and Liverpool recouped much of what they paid with a sale to Aston Villa in 1997. Dean Saunders - 1991 (£2.9m) Dean Saunders scored 17 goals in a relegated Derby County back in 1991 and pretty much every top English club was in line to sign him. Liverpool won the race, paying a record fee. Advertisement Saunders, though, didn't quite live up to expectations. 23 goals in all competitions was certainly good but only 10 of those came in the league as Liverpool finished 6th. The Reds decided to quickly overhaul things after just one season, selling Saunders to Villa for a small profit. So if it doesn't work out with Wirtz, at least we know Villa will take him. Peter Beardsley - 1987 (£1.9m) Now we're onto a success. Peter Beardsley arrived from Newcastle United and immediately became a star. He was in the PFA Team of the Year for three of his four seasons at Anfield, winning the Division One title twice. But it was the fact he somehow managed to replace Kenny Dalglish as a creative force that stands out. Advertisement Beardsley is an all-time Liverpool great, even if he didn't stick around for as long as most other legends. The European ban prevented him from showcasing his talents on the biggest stage but there's no question that the Reds got value for money here. Kenny Dalglish - 1977 (£440k) Nothing will beat this, admittedly. No matter how good Wirtz is. Kenny Dalglish is essentially in a two-man debate over who the greatest Liverpool player of all-time is, along with Steven Gerrard. And that's before factoring in everything else Dalglish has done for the club. Liverpool have never had better value for money. The Reds needed someone to replace Kevin Keegan in 1977, fresh after winning the European Cup for the first time. They turned to Dalglish, paying a record amount to Celtic for the Scot.

Marcus Rashford next club odds after Manchester United set asking price
Manchester United want £40m for Marcus Rashford and the striker wants to join a Champions League club, so where will he be playing his football next season? The 27-year-old spent the second half of this season on loan at Aston Villa after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. The loan spell saw him score two goals in 10 Premier League appearances and four in 17 across all competitions. There were some exciting and encouraging moments without the England international sparking fully back into life under Unai Emery, not helped by a hamstring injury that ended his campaign early. The season also ended in disappointment for Villa as Rashford could only watch on against his parent club, with Manchester United beating the Villains 2-0 on the final day of the season. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. That result cost Emery's side Champions League football and they will have to make do with the Europa League for the next campaign. Writing on Instagram the morning after the defeat at Old Trafford, Rashford posted: 'Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has (injury aside) been an incredible few months for me. 'It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch. 'Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant. 'I know it is a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place which everyone worked so hard all season for but I know this club and team will come back stronger. [love heart emoji]' That message seemed to suggest a return to Villa Park was unlikely and the bookmakers agree, with a move to Barcelona now the clear favourite for Rashford. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was asked about interest in the 62-cap England international, along with links to Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. 'They are both fantastic players. I like them and we'll see what happens,' the German told reporters. Barcelona's sporting director Deco made similar comments, telling RAC1: 'We like Luis and we like Rashford. However, we can't talk about players who are under contract. 'For me, it's much more important to improve what we have at home.' The Sun report that Rashford will hold out for a Champions League club as long as possible, which restricts his options significantly. More Trending The bookmakers do not see too many likely other options currently, with a stay at Manchester United second favourite in the betting for Rashford's club beyond September 3. That would be a blow for the Red Devils who are keen to get his wages off the books and bring in a transfer fee to help a huge overhaul of the squad this summer. A move to a Saudi Arabian team is also considered an option, although would obviously not meet the forward's Champions League criteria, while a return to Villa is not off the table but is also not considered likely. The likes of PSG, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are not too far down the betting list, but are speculative shouts at best. Manchester United XI vs ASEAN All-Stars: Predicted lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for friendly today
Manchester United are expected to name a relatively strong line-up against ASEAN All-Stars this afternoon. On the back of wrapping up a disappointing Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend, Man United have two post-season friendlies on their to-do list. Today sees the Red Devils face ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur before a game against the Hong Kong national side on Friday. A 32-man squad flew out to Asia just hours after the win over Villa. Manager Ruben Amorim has included plenty of experience in the group, and the assumption is the vast majority of the first-team squad due will participate across the two fixtures. Lisandro Martinez will not feature as he is a long-term injury casualty, but Noussair Mazraoui has been left out as he is being assessed after being forced off in the first-half against Villa. Leny Yoro is another notable absentee with Man Utd stating the young Frenchman has been managing a small issue in recent weeks. Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen - recently announced to be leaving upon the expiry of their contracts - are not in the squad due to personal reasons, but Jonny Evans is included as he prepares to bid farewell. Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Diogo Dalot have travelled, as have Andre Onana, Alejandro Garnacho and Luke Shaw who were all absent from the matchday squad at the weekend. Garnacho has been reportedly told to find a new club this summer by manager Amorim, so will likely make his final appearance for the club in the Far East. Predicted Manchester United XI: Bayindir; Dalot, Maguire, Heaven; Amad, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Fernandes, Mount; Hojlund Injured: Martinez Unavailable: Yoro, Eriksen, Lindelof, Mazraoui Time and date: 1.45pm BST on Wednesday May 28, 2025 How to watch: MUTV Venue: Bukit Jalil National Stadium
