AUSTIN, Texas - Six Central Texas cities made the top 150 of the new Best Places to Live in the U.S. list.
The annual list by US News & World Report ranks 250 cities across the country based on value, desirability, strength of the job market and quality of life.

Six Central Texas cities made the top 150: Leander at number 8; Pflugerville at number 15; Cedar Park at number 23; Round Rock at number 28; New Braunfels at number 77 and Georgetown at number 113.
Austin lay just outside the top 150 at number 164. Temple and San Antonio also made the list, at 99 and 236 respectively.

U.S. News & World Report used data from Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS) and U.S. News' own internal resources.
AGS develops its core database and specialized indexes from both private and government sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce, the Federal Reserve and the Bureau for Economic Analysis, as well as state and local sources.
The data was then categorized into five indices: Quality of Life, Value, Desirability, Job Market, and Net Migration. Each was weighted on a percentage based on the answers to a February 2025 public survey.

U.S. News & World Report has released its yearly ranking of the best high schools in the country, and it includes a breakdown of the top schools in Massachusetts. Overall, the report says Massachusetts is the state with the highest proportion of high schools in the top 25% of the ranking, and 43% of high schools in Massachusetts are in the top quarter of the national rankings. The top-ranked high school in Massachusetts is once again Boston Latin School, which is also ranked 46th nationwide. U.S. News says the graduation rate is 98% at Boston Latin, with 94% of students passing at least one Advanced Placement exam. Also coming in the Top 100 nationally was the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley at No. 96. Lexington High School came in at No. 118. The U.S. News & World Report released its list of best public high schools for the 2025-26 school year, and one Indiana school made the Top 10 for the best schools in the nation. This year's rankings evaluated nearly 24,000 public high schools and ranked nearly 18,000 of them. The ranks are determined by six indicators, which are weighted and then calculated into a 0-100 overall score for the school's performance across all metrics. The rankings only include traditional public schools, charter schools, and magnet schools that had a 12th-grade enrollment of 15 students or greater. Private schools were not included in the list because of "limitations in publicly available data," the news release for this year's list said. See how schools did The U.S. News & World Report's rankings have come under scrutiny over the years, however, for favoring certain kinds of schools and overemphasizing standardized testing scores, which have historically favored wealthier districts. Five of the Top 10 best high schools in Indiana are in areas where the median household income is greater than $100,000, far exceeding the state average income of $66,785, according to Census data. The state's second-ranked high school, the Indiana Academy in Muncie, is labeled as a 'public high school' but some students pay up to $2,700 per school year for room and board fees. All of the standardized testing scores used in measuring the schools were from the 2022-23 testing data. Unlike last year's results, Indiana's ranking was determined by math and reading assessment data from the College Board's SAT, instead of the ILEARN exam. The latest edition features specialized STEM and Charter rankings alongside traditional state, district and metro area categories. WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, announced the 2025-2026 Best High Schools rankings today. The rankings evaluate nearly 24,000 eligible public high schools at the national, state and local levels, with nearly 18,000 ranked. In this edition: Massachusetts leads with 43% of its schools ranked in the top quarter of U.S. high schools, followed by Connecticut with 41% and New Jersey with 40%.
