US retailer Ulta Beauty enters UK market with Space NK acquisition
The financial details of the transaction were not made public.
The acquisition was financed using Ulta Beauty's available cash and its existing credit facility.
This deal is not anticipated to significantly affect Ulta Beauty's financial outcomes for fiscal 2025 and will not interfere with its ongoing capital allocation initiatives, such as its share repurchase programme.
Ulta Beauty CEO and president Kecia Steelman stated: 'We are excited to enter the UK market via the Space NK banner.

Space NK has 83 stores across the UK and Ireland as well as its online platform.
Post acquisition, Space NK will function as an independent subsidiary under Ulta Beauty and will continue under the leadership of its current management team, including CEO Andy Lightfoot.

Goldman Sachs has been appointed as the exclusive financial advisor to Ulta Beauty for this transaction, with Latham & Watkins providing legal counsel.
Raymond James is acting as the exclusive financial advisor to Space NK, with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner offering legal services to both Manzanita Capital and Space NK.
In October 2024, Ulta Beauty revealed plans to open 200 new stores by 2027.

Everton's new stadium along Liverpool's River Mersey was 11 years in the making
Dan Meis received an intriguing prompt 11 years ago. 'I had a young business development guy that said, 'Hey, if I can give you a meeting with Everton will you go to Liverpool?'' the stadium design expert recalled. 'And I said: 'They're not going to hire a Los Angeles architect.' I sort of saw them as like the Cubs of the Premier League, historic and provincial.' Meis, the architect of Seattle's T-Mobile Park, Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field and Los Angeles' Arena, listened to Joshua Boren of his staff and was picked to turn Everton's long-hoped-for stadium into a reality, The Toffees play their first official match in 52,769-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, their Premier League home opener against Brighton. 'This is going to help us win on the pitch more, because this revenue that we're going to generate, rather than being seen as a cash grab, The Friedkin Group have committed to recycle that straight back,' Everton CEO Angus Kinnear said of the club's new owner. Everton had played at Goodison Park since moving from Anfield for the 1892-93 season and its ground was the site of five matches during the 1966 World Cup, including Pelé's only World Cup defeat. Its capacity of 39,414 ranked 10th in the EPL last season, while Hill Dickinson is seventh, trailing Manchester United, Tottenham, West Ham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. 'The stadium looks the business. It looks elite,' manager David Moyes said when he returned in January. 'So we need to start getting some elite players.' Nestle unveils method to boost cocoa yields as climate change hits
Faced with climate change diminishing farmers' yields, Nestle announced Wednesday that it was working on a technique to produce chocolate by using up to 30 percent more of the cocoa fruit. Chocolate is traditionally made using only cocoa beans taken from inside the pod, meaning that a large amount of the fruit -- including the pulp, placenta and pod husk -- "remains largely unused", the Swiss food giant said. Its researchers have "developed a patented technique that leverages all parts of the fruit inside the cocoa pod", it said. Everything inside the pod is collected as a wet mass that then ferments naturally, "unlocking the key chocolate flavour", Nestle said. "The mass is then ground, roasted and dried into chocolate flakes which can be used to make chocolate without compromising the taste." Nestle said the approach cut down on waste while helping farmers get more yield and value. "With climate change increasingly affecting cocoa yields around the world, we are exploring innovative solutions that could help cocoa farmers maximise the potential of their harvests," said Louise Barrett, head of the Nestle research and development centre for confectionery in York, England. "While this project is still at a pilot stage, we are currently exploring how to apply this innovation at a larger scale," she said. - Heat takes toll - Cocoa prices had been stable for around 10 years but began to soar in early 2023. A tonne of cocoa was worth £1,900 ($2,560) on the London commodities market in January 2023, shot up to £3,800 a year later, and reached a high of over £9,000 last December. The surge was the result of poor harvests in the leading producers Ivory Coast and Ghana, as unusually heavy rains, a cocoa pod disease outbreak and then drought took their toll. In February, a study by the Climate Central research group found that "excessive heat can contribute to a reduction in the quantity and quality of the harvest" for cocoa growers. The report calculated that over the last decade, climate change had added an extra three weeks of above 32C in Ivory Coast and Ghana during the main growing season from October to March -- above the levels considered optimum for cacao trees. The surge in prices dampened demand while also pushing farmers to devote more resources to cocoa cultivation. That allowed prices to ease in recent months, with reserves being built up for the first time in four years. Since the beginning of 2025, prices have declined, and a tonne was worth around £5,600 on Wednesday. vog/rjm/js
