Jennifer Coolidge urges Emerson graduates to ‘just friggin' go for it' in commencement speech

Coolidge, who earned her degree at Emerson in performing arts, spoke to a lively sea of purple and black Sunday morning at Agganis Arena for the college's 145th commencement ceremony.
The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress is known for her iconic roles in 'American Pie', 'Legally Blonde', 'Best In Show', 'Promising Young Woman,' and the critically acclaimed series 'The Watcher,' according to an earlier statement from Emerson College announcing her speech. She recently garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal of the fan-favorite character Tanya McQuoid in HBO's 'The White Lotus.'

'When you find the thing that you want to do, I really want to highly recommend, just friggin' go for it,' Coolidge said. 'You really have to psych yourself up into believing absurd possibilities, and you have to believe that they are not absurd.'
Coolidge, who has sparked rumors online about her sexuality, started her speech by saying she's excited to be 'speaking with some very excited gay students,' which was met with thundering applause, along with 'some less excited hetero students,' she said to the laughing crowd.
Coolidge also gave credit in her speech to Emerson for helping students start their journeys.
'Emerson has ignited these seemingly unattainable possibilities for you that now can be your reality,' Coolidge said. 'It is your ability to convince yourself you really can make it, because you have to be your own champion.'
'You can't perfectly plan it out from the beginning, and part of directing your life is just letting it unfold,' Coolidge said.
Coolidge received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at the ceremony. She said success in her career did not happen 'for a very long time,' and she endured 'hideous rejections.'
In one instance, Coolidge recalled auditioning for a part where she had to get into an elevator and say, 'Going up?'
'They didn't want me,' Coolidge said.
Coolidge reminded graduates that 'it's OK to be sensitive' and to 'feel things profoundly.'
And as Elle Woods — protagonist of the Legally Blonde films — would say, Coolidge told graduates: 'We did it!'

Derrick Lewis is confused by inactive state of UFC's heavyweight division. During her fourth night at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium for her sold-out Cowboy Carter tour , Beyoncé didn't let a torrential downpour stop her from performing the nearly three-hour show with songs from her Grammy-winning album. Per USA Today , the rain came before the show began at a little after 8 p.m. local time, and the stage was thoroughly wiped down before Beyoncé went on. As she opened the show, Beyoncé addressed the large crowd and thanked them for their decades of support throughout her career. 'Thank you for your love, dedication and for your loyalty over 25 years,' she said. The rain continued throughout the entirety of the concert. Still, she proceeded on, and her fans were right there with her even though their carefully curated fashion ensembles and hairstyles were drenched. However, in true Beyhive fashion, if Beyoncé can deal with an obstacle then they will follow suit. Mama Tina Knowles praised her daughter for being the ultimate performer in an Instagram post. 'Oh my God !!! You cannot talk her out of flying and pouring down rain!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽Just had to get on my knees and pray❤️🙏🏽,' she captioned a clip of Bey flying through the air on a giant horseshoe. Towards the end of the May 28 show, she thanked her fans again, but this time it was specifically for braving the rain with her. 'Thank y'all for giving all this energy in the cold and rain. I love you deep deep deep,' she said. Beyoncé will take the stage at MeLife Stadium for a fifth night on Thursday, May 29. Bills to be featured on Hard Knocks during training camp at St. John Fisher: What we know
For the first time in franchise history, the Buffalo Bills will be featured on HBO's popular Hard Knocks show. The HBO cameras will be imbedded with the Bills throughout training camp at St. John Fisher University, and they will then shift during the regular season to cover all four teams in the NFC East for the in-season version of the show. Advertisement The debut show for this season is scheduled to air Aug. 5. The reality documentary series made its debut in 2001 when it chronicled the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. It continued in 2002 with the Cowboys, took a hiatus until 2007 when it followed the Chiefs, and it has been a staple every year since with the exception of 2011. In 2021, the series began to feature teams in season and the Colts, Cardinals and Dolphins were the first three teams to agree to do this, and then last year came the introduction of in-season full division coverage when the AFC North was featured. There have been many memorable moments on the show, and just last year when the Giants were the featured team, the HBO cameras captured the team's ill-fated decision to cut ties with running back Saquon Barkley. Bills have not previously been on Hard Knocks The Bills have not been on the show for a couple of reasons. When it debuted, the Bills were embarking on what became a 17-year playoff drought and interest simply wasn't high on a losing, small-market team. Advertisement More recently, as the Bills have ascended to become an AFC power, HBO was certainly interested, but the Bills have been reluctant to appear to on the show because they are a franchise that likes to keep things inside the walls of One Bills Drive as much as they can. Sean McDermott will be speaking to reporters on Tuesday when the Bills practice and the media has access, and he will surely be asked about this. Perhaps not, but one can assume he probably isn't thrilled by the idea. However, he likely didn't have much choice. Teams can only avoid being selected if they have a first-year head coach, have appeared on the show in the last eight years and will participate in the in-season version of the show at some point in the next two seasons. The Bills do not fit into any of that criteria so in other words, it was their turn. This is obviously big news for the Rochester area because the HBO cameras are likely going to be focusing on different places in the region, though most of the footage will be captured at St. John Fisher.
