Former Volunteer Firefighter Reportedly Missing but Wife Found Alive After Clinging to Trees in Texas Flood Disaster

Brad and Tina Perry, of League City, were camping in their RV in Kerrville when the rain-swollen waters rose early in the morning on Friday, July 4, friends Steven and Debbie Whatley told CBS affiliate KHOU.
Around 5 a.m. local time, Brad, 49, told the friends that he was forced to climb on top of a tree when water swept away the RV, according to the Whatleys.
Debbie said the couple's youngest son, who is 18 years old, was able to briefly speak to his dad on the phone after receiving a 911 alert from Brad's phone.
The son, according to Debbie, said his dad was breathing in a 'labored' manner as he told him, 'I'm in a tree. Your mom is gone. I got to go.' Brad has not been heard from since.
Brad previously worked as a volunteer firefighter for League City, the Whatleys told KHOU.
They said he worked in swift water rescue while with the department.
Tina, 52, was later found clinging to a tree and yelling for help, another family friend said. She was transported to a local hospital with a broken rib and punctured lung.
Kerr County, where Kerrville is located, was hit the hardest by the floods: Authorities say approximately 70 people, at least, have died and another 11 people remain missing after the flash flooding disaster, according to the Associated Press and CBS News.
At a midday news conference on Sunday, July 6, officials said 38 adults and 21 children were among the rising death toll; 18 adults and four children have yet to be identified.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared Sunday as a day of prayer 'for the healing of individuals, safety of our first responders and public safety officers, rebuilding communities, and restoration of the region struck by this disaster."
'Texans are known for their faith, strength, and resilience,' Abbott said in a statement. 'Even as floodwaters raged, neighbors rushed in to rescue, comfort, and bring hope. In times of loss, we turn to God for comfort, healing, and strength.'
He continued, 'I urge every Texan to join me in prayer this Sunday—for the lives lost, for those still missing, for the recovery of our communities, and for the safety of those on the front lines.'

Monsoon moisture will begin lifting north on Tuesday afternoon, bringing a chance for rain and storms across the Denver metro area by mid- to late afternoon. Temperatures to reach triple digits in North Texas later this week, with small rain chances this weekend
The first heatwave of the season is in full force across North Texas as triple-digit highs finally arrive this summer. The hottest day of the year so far was reached for the second time yesterday, at 97 degrees. That's the same high forecast for Tuesday. July has been rather reasonable so far. North Texas hasn't hit 98 degrees yet and it is the third week of July. The last time that happened was 18 years ago. There also hasn't been any rain since mid-month and the soils are starting to dry out. Plus, high pressure is going to be parked right over North Texas going into the weekend. These two factors are enough to get North Texas to the triple digits for Thursday and Friday. Heat advisories are possible, so please stay heat aware during outdoor activities – drink plenty of water, have shade and take breaks from the heat. There is a very tiny chance of rain late Saturday and Sunday from a system moving in from the Gulf. More likely, North Texas will just get some clouds, which will knock temperatures down a little. It'll also increase the humidity, however, making for dangerous heat index levels.

A stretch of beautiful weather will slowly give way to rising heat and humidity this week, setting the stage for potentially stormy conditions by the weekend. After a pleasant Tuesday evening with temperatures in the 80s falling into the 70s under clear skies and low humidity, conditions will remain comfortable overnight. Lows will dip into the 60s to near 70, with clear skies and continued dry air. Wednesday will be sunny with slightly higher humidity, as highs climb into the upper 80s. More moisture will build in Wednesday night, with overnight lows holding near 70 degrees. By Thursday, summer heat makes a full return. Expect plenty of sunshine, higher humidity, and highs around 90 degrees. The heat intensifies Friday, with afternoon temperatures in the low 90s and heat index values exceeding 100. Friday has been designated a First Alert Weather Day due to the oppressive heat and humidity. An isolated or widely scattered late-day storm is also possible. Heading into the weekend, a shift in the upper-level weather pattern could bring more active conditions. As a ridge of high pressure retreats westward, the Mid-Atlantic will find itself under a northwest flow aloft. This setup allows upper-level disturbances to interact with hot and humid surface conditions, triggering showers and thunderstorms each day. Saturday and Sunday could both warrant Alert Day status, with the potential for strong storms and torrential downpours capable of producing flash flooding. Highs will remain near 90 both days, with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s.
