Ranbir Kapoor Thinks Wife Alia Bhatt Is Made Of 'Different Stuff': 'Her Ambition To…'
Alia Bhatt may have been launched by Karan Johar in Student of the Year, but her father Mahesh Bhatt says her rise has been entirely her own doing. Speaking on The Himanshu Mehta Show, the veteran filmmaker opened up about how Alia's ambition continues to surprise even those closest to her — including her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor.
'I didn't launch Alia Bhatt. Karan Johar launched her. I didn't know she had so much thirst for acting in her. She gave the audition herself. I just got to know they loved her work. I was shocked because I hadn't seen any such traits in her even remotely. I'm very happy she's a self-made girl," Mahesh said, reflecting on his daughter's unexpected journey into films.
What impresses Mahesh most is Alia's appetite for risk and reinvention. 'Alia has astounded me! What is unique about her is that she has a taste for taking risks and she's taken the detours into diverse narratives."
Now a mother to daughter Raha Kapoor, Alia has entered a new chapter in both her personal and professional life. 'I see a new depth in her. With this young girl becoming a mother, there's a coming-of-age of a different kind, a different kind of maturity in her. I'm also looking forward to her new films which would be coming out now," Mahesh added.
Up next, Alia is leading Alpha, a spy thriller from the YRF Spy Universe, releasing this Christmas. She'll also reunite onscreen with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War next year.
When asked about Ranbir's view of Alia, Mahesh shared a revealing moment. 'He says, 'Alia is made of different stuff.' When I ask him, 'What do you mean?,' he says, 'Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!' While he's a person who's very laid-back and comforted, and he just wants to do enough. She's a go-getter."
Mahesh also weighed in on the ongoing conversation around nepotism, acknowledging that while access does make things easier, it's not the whole story. 'Nepotism is a reality, but it's also not. Just because my child is talented, that doesn't mean I disqualify them," he said.
He added, 'But it's definitely easy for them. Because access is success. Talented people don't even get access for years. It's important to understand that the voice that's been raised against nepotism, there's a collective anger behind that. That's why we get to hear about that every other day."

Suniel Shetty's daughter rebuked him for commenting about C-sections and getting into trouble: ‘Papa, why did you talk?'
Suniel Shetty recently faced trolling after a few politically incorrect statements of his went viral on social media. He had lauded his daughter Athiya Shetty for giving birth naturally and avoiding C-section surgery. He had also insinuated that a 'husband should build the career and the wife should take care of kids.' Now, in a recent interaction, Suniel admitted that Athiya keeps a close eye on his statements and often rebukes him for saying something inappropriate. Speaking to Zoom, Suniel admitted, 'I avoid controversial questions during promotional activities. I'm the kind of person who sometimes wants to answer, and then I mess up. And then I have Athiya at home saying, 'Papa, why did you talk? Just say no comment!' She keeps reminding me not to say anything that could get us into trouble the next day. She tracks all my interviews, and honestly, that's the only person I fear. The best thing for a man to have is a baby girl in his life.' In an earlier interaction with News18, Suniel had lauded Athiya's strength for giving birth to her and KL Rahul's daughter Evaarah Vipula Rahul. He said, 'In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery. I remember how every nurse and paediatrician in the hospital said that it's unbelievable how she went through the whole process. That hit me as a father. I was like, 'Wow, she's ready!' Athiya was very, very strong to do that.' In another controversial statement, Suniel said that men and women should stick to their traditional roles. He told Pinkvilla, 'Marriage after a while becomes a compromise where you have to understand each other. Then a child comes into the picture, and the wife needs to understand that if the husband is building his career, she will need to take care of the child. Of course, the husband will also be involved. But these days, there is just too much pressure in everything.' Suniel's statements landed him in trouble, with trolls calling him 'misogynist.' On the work front, Suniel will next be seen in Welcome to the Jungle, alongside Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, and others. His other highly-anticipated film, Hera Pheri 3, is back on track after a temporary fallout between Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar.

Saiyaara Title Track Copied From One Direction's Night Changes? Tanishk Bagchi Says, 'Didn't Steal'
Tanishk Bagchi reacts to claims that Saiyaara sounds like a One Direction song. While Saiyaara continues to ride high on music charts around the world, its sudden success has come with a side of controversy. The emotional track, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, has not only grabbed the No. 4 spot on Spotify's Top Global chart but also recently topped the Viral Top 50 list – making it one of the most talked-about songs right now. But as the praise pours in, so do whispers of similarity. Listeners online have pointed out parts of the tune that, they say, resemble One Direction's Night Changes and Jubin Nautiyal's Humnava Mere. Tanishk, however, isn't too bothered by the comparisons. 'Whatever I do, people will have something to say because they don't have [anything better to do]. They keep on looking for opportunities to put me down. But ultimately, the song will go wherever it's destined to, and that's what's happening with Saiyaara too," he said in a chat with India Today. He addressed the criticism directly, explaining that musical overlaps don't mean something was copied. 'As for the comparisons, if you look at the melody, the chords are the same. The A minor scale has just about 3-4 chords but every melody has a different soul. That doesn't mean that anything was stolen. Even if you can do that, it's really difficult to make it a hit." Doubling down on his stance, Bagchi added, 'All said and done, we didn't steal anything. The similarities are fine, it can happen, but it's not like we did it on purpose. Idhar se utha ke udhar nahi kiya (we didn't pick and add anything). We worked on the emotion of the song, and that worked. That's the magic of the track 'Saiyaara'." In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Tanishk said he looks forward to composing an international track soon that helps him get his rightful share of royalties. 'Jaise international artists ko milta hai, humein nahi milta unless you own the publishing rights. The rights of the title track of Saiyaara isn't with me. It's with the music label. I'll only get so much money. I try to not bother myself because it is what it is. But when I make an international song in the future, I know that I'll earn in billions. I'm waiting for that moment," he said. First Published: July 29, 2025, 09:49 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
